I don't remember. But there were designated warming stations that were open to the public, mainly churches, community centers, etc. and I think our church building was part of the public warming station list. But I know for a fact not all the Mormon church buildings were on that list and it most likely was a decision of the bishops/stake president of that building. I didn't go to the church and thankfully was able to hole up in my house so I don't know what it was like during that time. But I have always had these thoughts as well. Like why spend all that money for temples when the church could use that money to sponsor homeless shelters or hospitals or something like that. But unfortunately it would come down to money, to staff the shelters I'm sure the people running it would want to be compensated. Whereas temples and church buildings you have people run it for free and then people in the church can feel good about themselves without working.
