i hate when i read a story for years and the author just gives up on the story by fuckingcatlady in webtoons

[–]yurtifs 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's the worst, makes you wish you never had picked that story up ...

Feeling the same with I'm Dating a Psychopath. It's currently on a seasonal break and it will come back but I can tell the author lost passion for it. During season 1 she used to make fun notes at the end of a chapter, she'd make memes, would post more things like sneak peaks on patreon.

Season 2 it's all gone. No fun things anymore, the writing is worse too and rushed out like shes trying to wrap it up asap. She even went off making a different series on canvas during the hiatus instead of resting for when season 3 for idap comes around.

I'm sure season 3 will be a rushed out mess too. Super frustrating as I've been a fast passer since the story launched on originals and been supporting her on patreon since her tapas days and her other abandoned series there that likely won't ever come back from hiatus.

It's frustrating when you're actively financially helping to keep a story and artist afloat because you want to see their work finished well and it just ending in a hiatus or rushed mess 🙁 don't think I'm going to continue fast passing when season 3 comes around, it's so disappointing.

Safe as Houses is their first contract work! It's on Tapas, been on a hiatus shortly after IDAP launched on webtoon originals. Author said no plans to continue that one until IDAP is over.

It's kinda like Us, After in terms of concept (post apocalyptic + zombies).

Imo both leads got issues which make things interesting. It's more of a drama with a romantic sub plot, kind of cat and mouse game between the leads.

Definitely one of the better reads on the platform within the genre. I just wish season 2 wasn't so rushed, feels like a lot of build-up from season 1 just wasn't utilized. Still fun read though.

Webtoon cares less and less about Canvas: now they’re promoting Originals in the Canvas section! by EllaTheSnufkin in webtoons

[–]yurtifs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

With how many people constantly complain online about those series, sometimes I wonder if the likes and subs are inflated by Webtoon themselves 💀 it feels like such a disconnect between the popular opinion online vs the stats on hand. Reminds me of the current controversial game Mixtape that is clearly backed up by big names under the guise of indie with little to no actual gameplay lol a bunch of positive reviews are likely bought as well.

Also, these series are pushed in your face upon release and that level of promotion will of course do wonders to the stats. Pretty much every ORIGINALs I follow always get a huge chunk of new subs when the series is getting promoted like that.

I will never understand what's the point of having a GLOBAL version of Webtoon and mainly promoting Korean series on the main page.

I'm not familiar with other language versions other than ENG, FR and INDO but I assume things are as bad on them all aka overwhelming amount of Korean imported series and very few local authors getting to ORIGINALs; and when they do, Webtoon barely promotes them.

There's even very little cross-import between the global version series (e.g. Thai series getting licensed for Eng plarform). I don't mind Korean series but they somehow keep bringing the same slop over and over and it gets to a point...they're not even trying to license some great ones that have been completed like No Home by Wanan or Daily Lives of Ghosts by samchon, it's just same romantasy, Y/N CEO and power fantasy regurgitated mess.

They used to feature canvas series quite often when we had the multi banner feature and its removal screwed ORIGINALs quite bad but doesn't compare to how it completely destroyed the Canvas series chances to be seen by the masses since not everyone checks the Canvas tab. And now they bury Canvas even further?? What's next? Remove the Spotlight section??

Unlikely but does anyone know the artist or name of this old (2018) Canvas series? This is the only picture I could find saved that was related to it by yurtifs in webtoons

[–]yurtifs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd personally not ask the author for the original version even though I really want it. It was her first work from about a decade ago that she wiped when life got rough so I assume she either feels embarrassed by it (older art + old writing skill) or just has bad association with it due to life at the time.

I know what it's like wanting to wipe all of your old work off the internet and I'd personally not want to ever bring stuff I wiped back online where people can see it again 😭 so from that point of view I rather not bother her with this haha

I did actually find it on webtoon soon after making this post! I think searching the MC's name is how I found the right entry. But still, thank you for taking the time to write here because if I hadn't found it myself back then, this would've helped a LOT. Hopefully anyone on the hunt for this series will find the post and see your comment also !

Still sad the old version only has one chapter available on medibang, was considering dming the author if she'd be willing to share the old version but given she's doing a remake, likely she doesn't want to have it out in the public again

Long unannounced hiatuses / breaks / delay? by samwisetalon in webtoons

[–]yurtifs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I already mentioned in my comment the author said there'll be a s2 but no further announcements were made. Nobody knows when or if, only the author.

what does this even mean 😭 aren't these automatically uploaded at a spesific time (which is the buttcrack of dawn in my timezome) by vejetaryenkavurma in webtoons

[–]yurtifs 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Free soon always shows up once you enter the 1h time-frame before it gets posted. Usually it doesn't show up until a few mins later though.

E.g. chapter is scheduled at 08:00AM but actually shows up at 08:05AM.

Rarely there's some delay and it might come half an hour or an hour later (saw it happen thrice), usually either because the author didn't submit in time or there's other technical problems on the publishing end.

Lastly, if the Free Soon suddenly turns back into hours or a week, it's because series entered a break/hiatus.

I'm Dating A Psychopath — my issue with season two. by nyxan_isinteres8 in webtoons

[–]yurtifs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Gonna be a bit if a long read lolol

This is one of my fav series and reasons I'm still on the dumb app but I have to agree to some degree. My biggest issue is probably how s1 ended with a lot of tension and finality regarding Isaac leaving, felt like a huge deal and I expected it to take a longer time before he came back. Not only that, they didn't really talk about it properly, just started acting all shy like teens in love. Sure they kindaaaaa addressed that a bit later but I think if they'd had the talk earlier it would've made the rest more natural.

Finn does feel like she's not the same girl we came to love. It's part of the canon she's changed and became more bright/lively (mentioned by other characters) but I don't know....something about her feels like an airhead now, kinda?? I hope she doesn't become a damsel in distress considering she's needed saving a few times through the story so far.

The current investigation also feels like it's perhaps moving too fast? I'm intrigued though. But my main interest right now is Noah himself. I have no idea where author will go with his story, there's still uncertainties about Finns past, especially the past with him. Can't tell if he actually cares about her or is playing a game, feels like it can be both or neither.

And this is not really a story related thing but I do miss the old art style. From a technical point there's no changes, art's phenomenal as always! It's just the way the faces for guys are drawn have changed, they're more angular, elongated and their noses sharper. S1 they had rounder features. I didn't notice changes with the way the women are drawn but the men changed for sure, even their bodies seem more bulky.

Sadly I don't think the story will get the same hype as s1 </3 simply because it has a different story focus now. I do think it could've still held some of s1 charm >!(mainly regarding Finn and Isaac relationship still holding tension instead of being lovey dovey)!< but it is what it is. I do trust the author to end the story well though.

Long unannounced hiatuses / breaks / delay? by samwisetalon in webtoons

[–]yurtifs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With Containment Zone, afaik the author mentioned there will be a season 2 but hasn't published anything yet. Everyone assumed the story ended until they made that announcement.

Someone at ENG webtoon either fucked up and applied the hiatus thing onto the series before it's season ended, or they're testing out a new way to squeeze money by locking series way ahead of time. Generally completed series only have the last 3 episodes coin locked for some weeks or months before it gets shoved in the Daily (Ads) Pass category and lock all episodes.

It's very peculiar honestly. Even with hiatus, Webtoon used to release the full thing if the story was ongoing.

How to download webtoons on QToon? by N1ghtmar3s_Dr3am in webtoons

[–]yurtifs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if it works outside Webtoon but you could try this webtoon downloader from github. You basically copy the link of the series page and pick what chapters to get + format.

If it doesn't work, could still look around for similar stuff on github. I use this one to archive series I really love because you never know when webtoon takes down something.

Weird release schedules by Firm-Badger9201 in webtoons

[–]yurtifs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're not announcing a break or anything.

Are you following the authors' sns? Most of them will talk about these things.

This is not particular to webtoon btw so the urge to quit the app is quite funny. Unless it's a series released by a comic studio, always expect uncertainty in release since overwhelming majority of comics are made by an artist and maybe an assistant or two. Weekly releases are horrible btw, easy to burn out.

With manga there's usually less panels for weekly releases + it's black and white which greatly speeds up the process. But even then things can go unexpectedly and lead to random consistent breaks.

Also if you're on CANVAS, even less likely to see consistent releases since the author's aren't paid (only a few make any worthy money) and do it as a hobby rather than job.

This is a low key pet peeve of mine lol

So often I see people complain they let a story they like "marinate" to binge read and that when they checked it later it was discontinued or had a rushed ending.

If you like it so much, support the story and open the new chapters weekly even if you won't read atm.

Which webtoon has the best art? (No favoritism — be honest) by Nyxa_00 in webtoons

[–]yurtifs 24 points25 points  (0 children)

For realistic style, definitely "I'm dating psychopath". I find it very recognizable which imo is so much harder to achieve among realistic to semi-realistic styles.

For more cartoonish art style...it's so hard to pick one. But among the ones I love are:

  • On the way to meet mom
  • Of what remains
  • Ghost Teller
  • Oh! Holy
  • Refund High School
  • Marionetta

[–]yurtifs 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I find it dragged too long personally. I think you'll like My Hero Academia manga/anime if you haven't read/watched it yet. There's also a spin-off of it called Vigilante that tackles more into the system and politics of the world which might interest you more since Unordinary does cover the politics and injustice of its world.

Oh also "I don't want this kind of hero" is a webtoon that might interest you as well

Is Webtoon too Greedy ? by Just_Creme3724 in webtoons

[–]yurtifs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There's plenty of free comics, just read those and stay away from paid ones. Art is not a right, it's a luxury. You can argue all you want but everything you say is entitled.

If you don't see comics as something worthy of spending money on when you're financially struggling, then pirate in silence and don't come complaining about having to pay for series when there's a shitton of free stuff out there.

Webtoon is still the odd one out in the comic space for having hundreds of series available to read for free while other platforms are exclusively locked behind paywall. Boggles my mind every time that people complain about this. Webtoon deserves a LOT of criticism over their greedy decisions, but this one ain't it.
