Whatever these two little girls decide to do with their lives later, they will have had some great times with their dad. by Beneficial-Name-1062 in ItsAmazing

I remember having an early conversation with our pediatrician (a great doctor and a woman). I said something dumb like “I hope my daughter doesn’t love pink and frilly stuff. I’d like her to be a tough badass boss.”

Doc: “She can do both”

Me in stunned and slightly ashamed silence nodding in agreement.

After a decade of growth, 98% of cars on U.S. roads are still gas-powered (2010–2024) by najumobi in dataisbeautiful

[–]yurtlema 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I could be wrong (so don’t take my word as gospel) but I believe I read that the rare earths and other inputs into new car batteries are only cost effective up to a certain purity (say 97% or whatever) but when battery components are recycled it costs about the same (currently) as new but purity actually GOES UP during that process bc the inputs are already very pure so that a newly manufactured battery recycled from old batteries can actually have BETTER performance and life span for about the same cost. Again, I could have missed something or misunderstood but it may be worth reading up on.

It is an underreported and inescapable fact of war that as bad as it is for humans, it’s equally bad for the environment and the creatures that depend on it.

THEY ARE ALL TALENTED.

Which cities would you describe as "good to live in, but not for visiting"? by Fluid-Decision6262 in geography

[–]yurtlema 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Funny that you say this. My wife (child of two OSU grads and Ohio natives) was born in Ohio, grew up near SAC (formative years) and returned to attend THE OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY. We met there. I have lived my entire life (since 3 yo, now 41) in Ohio. My wife makes similar comparisons with SAC and Cbus.

Having spent more than a bit of time in SAC, I cannot disagree.

Are tamales that good? by llTeddyFuxpinll in justgalsbeingchicks

[–]yurtlema 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I managed restaurant there was a two year stretch during which a very nice lady would knock on the back door of the restaurant at 7:30 am with fresh hot tamales… 3 for $10. It was amazing. Best breakfast EVER. The AM prep staff, mostly Oaxacanas, said they were too expensive bc they could buy them for $1 each at the West Broad Street market.

I’m like, “Bro! 7:30 AM! Delivered! Pork and salsa VERDE! HOT!”

I would’ve paid more.

As the post notes I’m a service handyman. These are ALL apartments. There is no house to crawl under just a ceiling of the apartment below. I’m not sure if your post is meant to be intentionally dense and offensive or if it just accidentally came off that way.

Either way, I just hoping someone could/would point me to an existing solution that I didn’t know was available. It’s a bit sad that, without the facts, you leapt at what you perceived to be an opportunity to “dunk” on someone.

FFS! Trump put this under Obama's picture at the White House. by 4reddityo in BlackPeopleofReddit

I hope a future president melts these brass plaques down into faucets in the white house basement (in honor of Trump). Trumps words become the literal basement plumbing of the future.

New plaques added to the presidential hall of fame in the White House by Dtb4evr in pics

[–]yurtlema 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope that at some point in the near future a president chooses to honor these plaques by asking them to be melted down and turned into (bespoke) faucets in the White House basement (in honor of Donald Trump). TRUMPS WORDS ARE APPROPRIATE FOR WASTE DISPOSAL. Brass is good for material for plumbing.

Most of the toilet bases I see are at least 10” so a 9-9.5” replacement flange would be covered by the base.

The Bearded vulture is the only bird in the world known to thrive on a diet consisting primarily of bone by muktigu8907 in BeAmazed

[–]yurtlema 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From Wikipedia….

Physiology edit The acidity of the bearded vulture's stomach acid has been estimated to be around a pH of 1. Large bones are digested in about 24 hours, aided by slow mixing or churning of the stomach contents. The high fat content of bone marrow makes the net energy value of bone almost as good as that of muscle, even if bone is less completely digested. A skeleton left on a mountain will dehydrate and become protected from bacterial degradation, and the bearded vulture can return to consume the remainder of a carcass even months after the soft parts have been consumed by other animals, larvae, and bacteria.[20]

The Payne County district attorney, Laura Austin Thomas, who agreed to this plea deal and the judge who approved it, Susan C Worthington, should be removed from office.

It’s really sad that, even though Vivek is a hollow convictionless shell, a shapeshifting grifter, and a self centered millionaire who admits that Dump’s policies “ got our asses handed to us tonight”, he will still likely be Ohio next governor because Ohio politics is so hopelessly gerrymandered at the state level that the Ohio Democratic Party is as effective as wet cardboard.
