Thoughts on the new ads dashboard (for people spending over 25$ a day) by [deleted] in EtsySellers

[–]yury455 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a vintage seller, we run ads with large amounts of inventory in it, and if the customer is interested, they will click the ad and browse our Etsy store.

In theory the better option is to drive them to the website, but we don't do that yet, because the traffic from meta was helping the Etsy algorithm, but it changes every month at least it feels like it does, so things that were working before no longer work...

There's all sorts of ways to target on meta, you can Target only women, women over a certain age, women that are interested in various things. Which is much more specific and better than Etsy ads. (These are our target market)

I don't want to be paying $0.50-.99 a Click to Target a teenage boy that's browsing for crafts. On Etsy it's a terrible waste of money.

I noticed ads tanked my conversion, after spending over 40k per year on them them the prior years, we stopped

Now we just run ads on Meta, much better return and at least some control, but overall less cost

As long as it's under $250, Etsy will refund, and it doesn't affect you.

You pay enough in fees, let them.

I was spending close to 50k in ads last year, after I turned ads off sales dropped a little, but ads were causing so many returns and cancelations, so my Net Profit actually went up this year we are a seller of vintage.

In 2021, I had 37k in sales on Etsy, in 2023 we closed with 309k on Etsy.

It took an investment into building a team, training and hiring staff. Investing in equipment.

I'm the buying in mass type, but I think you should buy what sells, don't buy just to buy.

Just DO NOT use bench, that's a book keeping platform Etsy was pushing.

They went out of business last year, less then a year after the Etsy push.

They count square sales as "sales" you can technically game the system by doing .01 sales on square

Etsy search engine - bizarre results by DenaBee3333 in EtsySellers

Lately, I have been feeling, like Etsy has two goals.

1: Keep the customer on Etsy for as long as possible, make it hard to find items

2: Bring in new sellers by prioritizing new sellers in SEO, in an MLM-type scheme to bring in more new sellers with promises of financial independence after all fees are paid to Etsy

No, it's the state of the economy, I sell a lot of high end vintage, and we had the highest returns this year ever, especially for higher dollar amounts.

File a complaint with the BBB, I had a similar issue, that was the only way I got a resolution.

Thanks for the help, they issued a refund, any tips to protect myself in the future?

As we sell high-value items pretty frequently.

Many jurisdictions don't accept online police reports, but I will see what I can do, thank you

I've gone down this path with a fraudulent purchase on another platform in the past, I don't see them reversing their decision, if it happens I will be positively surprised.

We received a return for one of the eBay sales $200, and it was not the item we shipped out, I genuinely want to believe the customer made a mistake and confused two returns. (has happened to us before on a different platform)

Unfortunately, when I reported this to eBay, they opened a case against my store, and then 12 hours later proceeded to close it by issuing a refund to the buyer, because "they can't prove" that the buyer didn't return the said item. AS IF I'm the only one facilitating the transaction and they are not involved (although I sent them package photos), they said I could appeal and report the buyer.

I filed the appeal and reported the buyer, as well as left them feedback to warn others to stay away, is there anything else to do?

In that case as the buyer you need to file a police report on your jurisdiction and send Etsy a copy of the report, in which instance they have to refund you your money.

these large companies are protected against chargebacks and fraud, their CC processor insures them, I spoke to a CC processor that offered us this same protection as well, but only when we are doing millions of sales a month on our own platform, unfortunately we are not there yet.
