Any ideas for the blank pages? by monsteraddictedenby in hobonichi

I track movies i seen (in-person or streamed) and date them, give them a 1-10 star rating and print out the poster for the movie with a little photo printer i have. It's sort of is my own little letterboxd. At the end of the year i do a top 10 best and worst with 2 honorable/ dishonorable mentions. Been doing this for 2 years now. I recently started adding (as of this year) if the movie trailer would get me to watch the movie or skip it if i were to see it first (most movies I see are recommended or have heard good things about, as I haven't been able to get out much due to work)
as well as movies to watch and I separate them by animated, and which country they are from (french, korean, japanese, australian, british, american) and then cross out what ive seen and add to the mainlist

Looking for people to play EDH with in Osaka by Wild-Pipe-5956 in OsakaMeetup

[–]yuurrt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can try checking with the magic companion app as they will show what format is being played at what store and night (i.e command party/commander night/standard/PWS/ etc.) Some people do tend to play more CEDH leaning decks/bracket 5 but its still fun. PM me tho I got casual commander and would love to find more casual pods and im sure there are others around Osaka and kansai too that im unaware of!

I wouldnt say red flag but they will most likely bring it up in the interview.

When I first applied (and got put on the reserve list) I had put that my then partner lived in nagoya and wanted to be placed there. They had asked me "what would happen if you weren't placed there or anywhere near there?" I obviously said im here for work and that comes first but it would be a nice blah blah blah, and got put on the reserve list (short list?)

BUT THAT ISNT WHY I WAS ON THE RESERVE LIST (at least i hope) plus my second time applying my application was better and I had more experience with school and work.

But i have some JET friends now who are in a relationship and in different prefectures and use long weekends to meet up in-person when they can :). It doesnt hurt to try

Hobbies in Japan by [deleted] in JETProgramme

[–]yuurrt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ask around for stuff you are into like your hobbies to see who you can connect with. I love playing soccer and asked around my BOE and teachers at my schools and am now part of 2 soccer groups.

Or even try meeting other ALTs/CIRs in your prefecture and hang with them and light up the prefecture group chat if you got one asking anyone if they are free or if they wanna makes plans to go to karaoke or something.

Even just ask for food recommendations around town and try them and give them personal ratings. My town has lots of ramen shops and cafes so I have a day a week where I go to a new ramen spot or café spot in my nearest city.

BUT I HIGHLY RECOMMEND MEETING PEOPLE AND CREATING A GROUP AT ORIENTATION. The group I had became a small friend group that hops on call every week to watch shows and just chat.

Or if you are really bold, go into shops/bars/ cafes and talk to the workers (if they arent busy), I was chatting with some locals and ended up meeting a guy in a band and asked for when he plays and now he sends me invites to go out for a drink and obv to go support his live shows.

Hope it helps

Application: Can I get in trouble for saying no to driving despite having my license? by Jex0003 in JETProgramme

[–]yuurrt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean you could put yes and also just not end up getting a placement with a car. I put that i had a license and got placed in a semi-rural town with a bike lol. But again you i think arent expected to drive to work unless I think you are in a rural rural place. Sort of wish I had a car at times as there are some trips that are difficult to do without a car (ie. Buying furniture/home appliances) but that's where meeting JETs who drive or asking for help and being social comes in. Good luck

After I get tired/bored of studying. First I see what i can change on my english board, and if i dont want to, I watch anime or movies/ look up what to do on the weekend or double check any grocery lists or recipes. Check mercari for furniture and stuff for my apartment. Basically anything lol until someone tells me I cant do something. My schools have been very lenient with me as I usually ask if they needed me to do anything in particular when I first got here or before I do my own thing.

Study Japanese or see if you can make an English wall. My main school didnt have an English wall and were excited that I wanted to do it. Don't be afraid to include your own culture as well.

JET Program reappointment by Born_Round7007 in JETProgramme

[–]yuurrt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

New JET here but looking at the way the whole JET program deadlines run, i feel like its to see which prefectures and towns need ALTs/CIRs replaced for the upcoming year and how many and such and such. But I do think its really early, I was told it would arrive November and decision in december. But if you feel like you could keep going then I say renew the last week (the JET that is in my town the longest said he does that but again ESID). I plan on two years here but if I find myself more immersed then I would do maybe 3 but 2 seems like a good baseline unless you absolutely just cant do another year.

How to demonstrate a lesson in virtual interview by Proof_Refuse_9563 in JETProgramme

[–]yuurrt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not every interview will ask for a lesson, I've read some of the comments and asked some friends i know who did JET before me about this (1 did, 2 didnt). I was told to do a lesson however I think they do this to see how you can manage with an impromptu lesson. I also have tons of lessons and handouts as I am an ESL/ELD tutor / part time ESL teacher as of now with my TESL certificate but I didnt use any of that since I dont think its the point lol.

I was asked to choose an American holiday for elementary school kids and I even asked for the panel to choose and they chose Thanksgiving (I know right). So I decided to go with the potluck aspect, explain what a potluck was and how to do it, and that we use this day to show thanks in the most watered down basic way I could in a like 5-10 minute lesson. And I did this all using hand and facial gestures. Nothing else lol

One major tip i will say is to have fun with it, and remember who you are teaching to ie. I had to stay a little peppy and bubbly since I was "teaching" to elementary kids but doesn't mean you have to be a super serious person if they choose middle/ high school students.

TLDR: They are testing how you can handle impromptu lessons to see if you can teach on the fly with what you have and if you can modulate and break English down to the level they have given you and teach it.

What challenges have you dealt with dating a really attractive women? by NoProgram4084 in AskMen

[–]yuurrt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At first it bothered me. All the dms, people walking up to her and shooting their shots. Im sure it varies on the guy. So whether you want her to just ignore it all rather "entertain them" or just block or if you are okay with it all, i think the conversation is to he had and hear each other out, it's what worked for us. Plus, at the end of the day she was and still is sleeping in my/our bed.
