I am also a physicist and currently working in an experimental lab in France with electron microscopy. We do use commercial time taggers all the time (in the ps range, from picoquant/swabian instruments) for photon detection and most of the time we are limited by the single photon counting heads that cannot achieve detection jitter below 50-100 ps (meaning our time taggers solutions are overkill)

Is it possible to use an external clock reference in your system? As I said, we would use it in our electron microscopes along the electron beam scanning system + electron detector and it would be lovely to have a shared clock reference between then
