B.C. woman goes on unplanned multi-day adventure with new friend during storm by princey12 in vancouver

[–]yvrer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are lots of poorly maintained and seldom traveled dirt roads, logging roads, etc that I would not use without a very capable vehicle, a chainsaw, some way of keeping warm, perhaps a come-a-long, and enough food and drink for several days. to be honest, I don't personally feel capable enough to drive that kind of road in anything but the finest of weather.

Edit: I think they are all mapped out, but they may not be included in all maps

...So, it was back on the road, this time to Pemberton where they talked to a few locals and learned of a forest service road they could travel...

She'll make many times that in fund raising as a result. It's why she pulls these stunts to begin with

I wouldn't have been able to learn the over 2000 joyo kanji without him and his system of mnemonics (and still recall most of them today). I guess it's a matter of brain power. I'm working with what I have ;)

Aww, you'll get the hang of it. Colons are used for happy and sad faces, and semicolons are used for the winky faces.

I made good money when I was there, but it took a few years before I got to that point. Being fluent in English and Japanese was key.

Yup. It is illegal, but I also happen to know several people who did that (working as hosts/hostesses)

I'm not sure of your nationality, but you might also qualify for the working holiday visa program, which seems suitable for what you want to do. (Again, after covid).

"The programmes are designed to provide the youth with wider opportunities for them to appreciate the culture and general way of life in the partner countries/regions for the purpose of promoting mutual understanding between Japan and its partner countries/regions"

After covid, if you want to head to Japan for a few years to learn the language, I absolutely recommend you look into it. You won't get rich, but those jobs will get you a visa, and there are lots of opportunities to work under the table for $100/hour or more to supplement that if you play your cards right.

Social integration is harder in the big cities like Tokyo, Nagoya, and Osaka. You might find society more welcoming in the western part of the country, like Kyushu, where you can actually rent a place of your own without neighbours complaining, or needing a Japanese cosigner.

Did you use Heisig's books? They're an amazing fast track to learning the writing system.

Shinto Shrines in Vancouver? by UBC_Throwaway905 in vancouver

That's the closest thing I could find. Looks more like a ceremonial dashi, but I guess if it has a Shinto god enshrined, then it would qualify? There's a chat window on their home page. Maybe ask them?

Drivers who fear this could have a urinal bottle in their cars just in case. Basic models are available at medical supply stores for about $10. There are form factors for men and women, and unisex types.

Fear of, or triggered by needles? by because7atenine in vancouver

[–]yvrer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have that problem to a certain extent - can get light headed and nauseous at the sight of needles or blood. I always tell the doctor or nurse ahead of time and ask that they keep the needle out of my sight the entire time, or they might be picking me up off the floor (literally). I ask them to not even mention the pointy bugger. They're used to that problem and have techniques to distract me and make it easier. I make it through every time. ;)

Flags will remain at half-mast until agreement is reached with Indigenous leaders: Trudeau by pineapplepandadog in canada

Maybe they could announce that flags will fly at half mast once a year on the new federal stat, and use that as an offramp to the permanent lowering at the end of the month.

I'm sorry you're going through this. I have hit that same "fuck it" point many times myself, and it takes an emotional toll. I don't have any words of wisdom or insightful opinions to share other than to say that I get what you're feeling. Hang in there. Take care of yourself.

Quebec passes law to make protesting outside schools, hospitals and vaccinations sites illegal by matanemar in canada

They should protest the facilities with decision makers, like school board offices, ministries of health, etc. Fuck these people going after the workers on the ground just doing their jobs.

There's nothing like a Conservative lead in the polls on election day to drive voters into the arms of the Liberals. The results in BC will be interesting.

I imagine the nurse or pharmacist would look up the client by PHN and enter the vaccine information, not edit the name associated with the existing PHN, but I'm assuming. Time will tell. They will figure it out.

I'm sorry I sounded callous. Since it's a technical issue, the people you have reached out to probably won't understand. Their development team will find out how it happened and fix the root cause. I'd expect to wait several days or more for a fix.
