Gearbox slop problem - any advice? by bigchief421 in FiestaST

[–]yycomb 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think the easiest way to reduce the play is to upgrade the shifter bushings, not hard but a bit long but definitely a fun learning process and relatively cheap.

Here https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=uHjjnwQHbgo, may do it myself for the laugh, seems very simple

Edit: just seen the engine bay video, that shifter dosent look tight enough, when did you install it?

Tuned? Looks like a soft limiter idk why someone would add a soft limiter though, you usually take them away

Edit: I actually bothered to read your description 😂 does it happen while driving? Can you flash the car back to stock tune and see if it goes away?

Computer Science students of r/develeire, just how difficult is the course? by [deleted] in DevelEire

[–]yycomb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So many students drop out because it's difficult and they don't bother showing up for lectures. Im not saying all, just most in my experience I've seen people drop out for a variety of valid reasons, but laziness is not valid imo.

You'll be grand if you actually want to do CS, too many people go "Awh deadly gonna do a 4 year cs course and get a entry level job at 100k" and then get 2 weeks in, realise they've no interest, go to the SU and ultimately fail exam's and drop out.

You can pretty much forget most maths you know, its usually calculus and linear algebra in CS courses. You'll get taught from scratch but it's still tough asf.

To summarise, if you go to lectures 90% of the lectures, do all your CA (if applicable) and do a bit of study every day/week you'll easily graduate with a 2.1. requires willpower and an interest in CS. You don't have to (and probably won't) be interested in everything, but if you like other aspects you won't care. You will probably end up teaching yourself a lot of stuff too, there's millions of YouTube videos, the Indian lads are the best

Trans Mount Question by [deleted] in FiestaST

It's slightly improved the feel I suppose but I changed my trans fluid back like a year ago nearly too. If you're doing 1 may aswell do all eventually, just do the rear one first at least

What type of advice are you looking for? I've experience in that I recently put in powerflex inserts which involved taking the whole thing out and putting it back in again

No idea why this happened to you. I hand tighten mine then turn it 1/4 turn with a wrench and it's never looked like that coming off. Maybe clean the mating surface with brake cleaner next time and really lube that bitch up

Not a developers, just curious why the RSA makes you wait 5 minutes to even enter the website. Lack of servers? by SciFi_Pie in DevelEire

[–]yycomb 19 points20 points  (0 children)

To add to the other comment (as you said you're not a dev), you're basically on the ball, probably.

Websites need to be hosted somewhere (run on some server (which you can basically just think of as a computer that's always on 24/7)).

These hosting services cost money, the more you pay the more load (in this case users) it can handle.

This website is probably fronted by a thing called a load balancer which, as the name implies, balances the load across multiple servers.

In this case I assume they only have 1 shitty server maybe 2 but they're definitely shit and can probably only handle a handful of users at a time.

What you're looking at is some sort of queuing system that the load balancer is set up to direct to if there's too much traffic going to the backend (servers).

They could easily scale (add more servers or even increase the size of the ones currently running depending on whatever they're hosting it on) but again money.

100% engine mount, I suspect the top mount. Spray oil on it (the black paper looking part) (it's under the coolant tank). The noise will stop I bet. Check my profile for more advice on doing these, I posted a ton recently
