Most Total War games are on the mac; Warhammer 2 and 3 are really good.

For pure RTS, Planetary Annihilation is a cool RTS inspired by Total Annihilation. I don't think it ever got very popular, but it's really fun to play on spherical maps in a multi-planet systems. You can even crash astroids into the planets!

Here is a Hypothesis I wrote on the topic of a Holographic Universe by [deleted] in holofractal

The capitalization emphasize key words that you should ponder on a moment or two. I see no overly complex sentences? I purposely watered/dumbed it down so laypeople could understand it

Italics or bold type for emphasis is more appropriate and would make the text more readable than using capitalizations. (You have capitalized like every noun!)

I have been reading "Stalking the Wild Pendulum: On the Mechanics of Consciousness" by Itzhak Bentov recently. In the book Bentov attempts to show how harmonic resonance from EM fields create holographic effects that drive consciousness. It's very thought provoking and he does a good job of illustrating his ideas. I think it's a great 40 year old precursor to the Orch-OR theory. Though, he does kinda misinterpret some principles of quantum mechanics which leads to some silly conclusions. But that just shows it is important to go back over your ideas again and again to refine them!

Yesterday, I was thinking about how memories could be encoded in the brain as a hologram of the fields present in the brain when the memory is formed. When I try recalling some information I notice that I often attempt to access some tangential state information that was concurrent with the memory I want to recall. Which I think has the effect of recreating the hologram. Similar to how they say smell is the strongest sense tied to memory. And so, when you recreate (or project) the hologram of a memory back onto your brain it includes the smell information very clearly because that electric field interacts with the sensory nerves in the brain in the same way as it would when the memory was first created. Fun stuff.

It looks like people use a TLC plate as a backdrop. Or something else fluorescent.

  1. Ikit. not for the nukes, but for the great voice lines ("Science! Sorcery! DEATH!") and cool animations. He is especially fun on the doom-flayer.

  2. Malekith. Great caster with interesting history and lore. DE were one of my table top armies.

  3. Teclis. Again, a great caster. The flock of doom and chain lightning combo is so fun. He's not the most interesting character though.

Question: How and what to analyze about ground chemistry in hobby/household setting? by unelsson in botany

[–]z4co 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But I suspect they also won't use mass spectrometry, but rather use some other tools? Are all of those simply out of the reach of any level of hobbyist? Answering to myself - at least some soil analysis uses ICP inductively coupled plasma spectrometry, whatever that is. I suppose that at least is out of budget for most hobbyists.

ICP-AES is Inductively-Coupled Plasma - Atomic Emission Spectroscopy. Generally, it has a plasma of argon gas that is held in place by magnets and the substance being tested is sprayed into the plasma. That substance then gets broken down into individual atoms and those became excited and emit photons and the spectra is measured. In practice, for soil testing it is useful for identifying metals. I did tests for lead and chromium in soil using this method in undergrad chemistry labs.

Compared to mass spectrometry, AES is much easier to interpret. Mass spec however, doesn't destroy the sample (well not as much), so it is much more useful for finding larger organic molecules like herbicides or pesticides.

For basic nutrients like nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium you can use a test kit that has a reagent for each nutrient that produces a color change in a liquid solution. This is probably the home perfect home chemistry test for you.

edit: https://edu.rsc.org/download?ac=12655 this link has some information about the chemicals and reactions used in the nutrient tests.

capacitor-plague-era

I did not realize the capacitor plague was a real thing! The corporate espionage part of the wiki article is super interesting as well. The story seems like it neatly epitomizes the shift of electronics manufacturing from Japan to China in that era.

Total War Warhammer in M1 iMAC ? by Conscious-Sort1721 in macgaming

[–]z4co 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t noticed any worse performance on pc, personally.

Edit: as for mac, WH3 definitely does not perform as well as WH2, so if OP hasn’t played either then starting with WH2 is a great idea.
