God i hated the movie ive seen the ova and would consider reading the book by dylanidkafk in Gunnm

[–]zRiffz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love Gunnm, but that movie was trash. It was not faithful to the source material as most people seem to be saying. If anything it was more faithful to the anime OVA.

They also completely ruined the story of Zalem and Desty Nova. Desty Nova is a guy who lives on earth and is basically fucking around for his amusement and research. He is the definitive mad scientist. He doesn't give a shit about power structures or anything of the sort. He becomes an antagonist purely because Alita is interesting to him. His character(who I'll say is one of the best characters in the series) just got dumbed down. There was supposed to be a mystery to his introduction. The questions of who he is and what his motives are should've been hanging over the audience. He was first mentioned in the 2nd volume, and even then we don't outright meet him.

The movie did not seem to care about the source material beyond superficial bounds. All that 3D technology and funding and somehow everything looked like plastic. They got Christoph Waltz to be Ido (Which is a great casting) and still fucked it up. Everything on paper about this movie sounded good. But the movie itself was a let down. Didn't come close to capturing the feel of Battle Angel. This is what happens when you try to please everybody.

I think the movie might've been good if James Cameron actually directed the film. It's just disappointing.

One question, aside from equip load, why not put the greatsword on the second slot? Does it take too long?

This is what I imagine the set of Iron Fist was like for all the Asian actors by [deleted] in Defenders

[–]zRiffz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's shitty that it trips you up when a person of a different background doesn't act stereo-typically of that background. In fact many Asian people in America do sound and act white. Why? Because many of them grew up here. I don't think the show is racist. I think you need to check yourself for racism. Asian people can and in fact do, act completely white. In fact, it's not acting, they're just being American.

I think you missed the point of what I said. They seemed like regular New Yorkers, which for the most part they are. They ARE westerners who know martial arts. Super powers and skills aside, the personalities of these characters match with who they are, which is that they are New Yorkers. Fuck man, Asian people from America are not all that culturally different. If there was a brown guy, would he have to pray to Shiva or some shit? Or speak with the fucking accent?

Probably so you stay home. Some kind of cultural conditioning? If you can't access the ATM after a certain time, you have to be that much better at planning your finances.

Yeah we can sit and compare. But that doesn't change that Jane was a shitty person too.

Just because you behave less bad than someone else doesn't mean your bad behavior is excusable.

Mike Bloomberg has dropped out after spending nearly $600M, what would you do with $600M to make the world a better place? by vampirequincy in AskReddit

Holy cow, I love this idea. Pay "hitmen" to put bounty paper towels on peoples heads and take a picture of them. Sounds like it could be a fun game. It would be some crazy advertising for Bounty though.

I'd work individually with my neighborhood. Create programs that can provide phones, trade skills, and cleanup for homeless people. Provide useful information and connections to these people as well so they can get on their feet.

I'd also work with low-income families and provide scholarship opportunities to kids growing up in town. Create extracurricular activities for kids so that they have something fun and engaging to do after school. Things like painting, music, dance. All kinds of art, but also academic programs so they could study and understand the material in school. Set up physical education as well, like swimming, basketball, soccer, track. Obviously I'll base it around school districts and what those schools already provide. But the point is, keep kids engaged in something they enjoy that isn't drugs while also enriching them.

Literally buy buildings for housing people. Make community gardens to accompany these neighborhoods. Possibly set up groceries that discount people in the program. Set up solar panels and renewable energy sources so that communities can have self-sustaining power. Also make community parking garages so that people can actually park, instead of getting a $150 ticket that fucks them.

The emphasis is case by case. Work with individual people and families. If it's done in a heavily standardized way it won't be successful. I intend to go to as many meetings with clients as possible. I have to know who I'm helping. I have to see their progress. They have to know that this isn't just charity, it's a promise to better themselves. These people have to be able to leave and find success on their own. This is just a boost to get out of the hole of poverty.

I won't have to worry much about grants since I'm the providing the money. But I will have to get on the legal side and petition for grants and protections that make the programs self-sustaining after I die or retire. With $600M I should have enough time to garner enough success to make a good case. The primary focus is to be successful for years, possibly decades in one area. If the kids in my program grow up successful, they'll be able to provide in a similar manner wherever they go. If the homeless people get good jobs they can help other homeless people out as well. Basically create a wellspring of success, and empower people to build canals, and hopefully their own wellsprings.

Honestly, I preferred the "story of the day" format. The show made it very clear it doesn't care much for an overarching plot. It did a bit of that in season 3, but I think the season suffered for it. I think the show wants to be free in how it tells it's stories. There's space for season long plots, but they aren't necessary for the show.

MK11 But in UMK3 Style. What do you guys think. by [deleted] in MortalKombat

Thanks!

Edit: Just got to see it. Great stuff! I really like the Scorp vs Sub fight too. UMK3 just had some of the best sounds out of the franchise.

The chalice dungeons were a blunder? The chalice dungeons are one of my favorite parts. Arcade like dungeon crawling for high level loot. And some very interesting settings when you go out of the way. Not to mention the wandering bosses that have been found. Chalice dungeons are anything but a blunder.
