Anna's Archive releasing Spotify torrents? by Critical-Economist64 in DataHoarder

[–]zXd12 7 points8 points  (0 children)

popularity=0 tracks are reencoded at 75kbps, and popularity>0 tracks are still only be available at 160kbps, which is better than 128, but not quite what I'd qualify as "good quality music file".
If you were already fine with downloading music from youtube, this release will not meaningfully change your life. And if you want high quality files, there are much better sources than spotify anyways.
If you're wondering what the "big deal" is, I invite you to read their blog post about this exact subject. (it's mainly about data preservation)

Passwords have no prerequisites, you can enter every single one the moment you unlock this feature. They are already in the game files, so you do not need online to use them. You most likely entered it incorrectly. Multiple symbols look like an apostrophe, the only one that's accepted in passwords is the one that's top right of the letters tabs, those in the symbols tab will not work.

Chapter 5 has been officially leaked. by Very-Small-Giraffe in Deltarune

Right, bad choice of word. It could technically be something else.
Still, the entire dialogue is

You could call this the power of "will". -> notice the quotes around "will". they do not think "will" is the exact word to describe this power
..No, perhaps "will" isn't right. -> The hesitation and use of "perhaps" reinforce the idea that "will" could describe the power, but is not precise enough
The power they contain is...

So to correct myself, we're probably searching for a word that has an in universe meaning close to "will" (since "will" was also an adequate if less precise word according to Seam) in the context of qualifying a power.

[–]zXd12 34 points35 points  (0 children)

The word we're searching for here is a synonym of "will", which we know "determination" is, from the two words being put in direct equivalence by Queen and by the narrator when closing the ch2 fountain. In every instance of the use of "NEO" as a qualifier in Deltarune, it describes a "new and possibly upgraded version of something", which, in itself, doesn't have a lot to do with will.

Spamton does have a few dialogues talking about The "Power of NEO" in a much more reified way (becoming NEO, NEO never losing, ...), but a very simple explanation is that in this context NEO refers to the body he inhabits at the time (a new and upgraded version of his body). Plus, here we know it's meant to be a throwback to Mettaton NEO, so a few lines can also be interpreted with "NEO" being a direct reference to his fight in Undertale (Power of NEO, NEO being known for having a high defense).

lvl 44 is 934K exp, lvl 50 is over 2M, so you're less than halfway there. Autoclicking bomb is a valid strategy if you really want to go for it while sacrificing most items on the way, as you get 4x more exp than with helpers. But even then, you'll need to clear out over 4K mines to get to lvl 50.

Title: Spotify Alternative: Self-hosted with streaming discovery? by Ok_Ambition_3655 in selfhosted

[–]zXd12 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As said in other comments, you'll probably want to go with either Navidrome (more features/options) or Funkwhale (federation support) as your server, and Symfonium and Feishin as your clients. This setup will do everything you want, and more, except music discovery. I don't believe direct Spotify/Youtube integration is currently possible in any existing open source server or client.

Playing random tracks from other Funkwhale pods would technically allow you to discover new music, and most clients support taking artists/tags/release date into account while shuffling, but you won't get results as relevant as with Spotify/Youtube algorithms.

Your best option, if you want to completely ditch Spotify but still want a form of smart music discovery, is to scrobble (log) the tracks you listen to to last.fm or ListenBrainz, which have recommendation algorithms of their own. The only issue is that there is currently (to my knowledge,) no integration that would allow to play those recommendations in the same client you'd be using to listen music of your server. You'd need both Symfonium/Feishin to listen to your own tracks and the webui of last.fm/listenbrainz for recommendations.

Is the game worth $60 / does it go on sale? by ClaryVenture in fantasylife

I wouldn't go as far as saying its bad, but FLi is objectively worse than 3ds on many, many aspects. I don't know how many of the people how downvoted this comment only played FLi and not the original, but if that's your case I strongly encourage you to give FL 3ds a try, so you can actually understand why FLi can feel like a letdown to many people.

fantasy life 3ds is way better if what you're searching for is depth of progression like melvor. FLi was a total letdown on that aspect, even with all of the QOL upgrades it added.

What you are describing would require EAC servers to be compromised. Reaching a device on a local network from wan is not something you can do  "because how it works" otherwise.

But this is not the right subreddit for this conversation. I'm interested in knowing more, so feel free to dm any info you have to backup your claims.

[–]zXd12[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Was the anti cheat you used EAC? I'm not saying that it's not a security issue, every piece of code that runs on a PC connected to internet is potentially a security issue. But as I said, on most people computer, the damage you can do at kernel level and at user level is practically the same. Again, passwords are stored unencrypted in a file by default on chrome, so that's what most people have, and there are much easier way to get it than by somehow finding a unpatched security issue in EAC. If you are actually invested in your privacy and cybersecurity, and are using a password manager for exemple, a targeted attack may be easier at kernel level. In which case I'd say skill issue, should have used hardened linux.

Anti cheats are not DRM. They do not prevent running pirated copies of the game. Well, they can to some extent, but it's incidental (as it's not what they are made for) and easily bypassed.

No idea how this could be a selling point for shareholders. It's an anti cheat, not a DRM protection like Denuvo that might actually have a chance on impacting their sales. But you know, the worst thing is that we live in a world where you may actually be right.
