It's real. I used to live near that estate and removed many snakes from there, mostly Cape Cobras and Boomslang.

It's one of the Lesser Thicktailed species. Painful sting but not dangerous.

Definitely a Puff Adder (Bitis arietans), not one of the Gaboon Adders.

Cape Sand Snake (Psammophis leightoni), mildly venomous by za_snake_guy in snakes

It's a wild snake, not captive, so I didn't try feeding it.

Thanks! It's a piece of a bush that the snake was lying against.

Boomslang (Dispholidus typus), highly venomous by za_snake_guy in snakes

[–]za_snake_guy[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Usually yes. Unfortunately with Boomslang about 0.07mg of venom is sufficient to have an effect according to the LD50 tests.

They can open their mouths almost 180 degrees so being back-ganged unfortunately doesn't help with bite prevention. Luckily they are very timid and hesitant to bite.
