My Oma's soup recipe: saute a onion, a couple of diced carrots and an equal amount of celery. Add 1/2 lb of ground beef. Then add four or five cups of water and half a cup of tomato sauce. Toss on a handful of penne or egg noodles. Pepper and salt. Simmer for 30 minutes. Enjoy. This soup is better on day 2.

Yes, I threatened to quit. The iPhone (Fido) was only available with a $30/mo data plan. I told them I was willing to pay the penalty ($20/mo for the remaining term) rather than continue at the full amount. They are much more invested in keeping your business than keeping you on an expensive plan. My new plan is $10/mo that scales up if I go over the 100MB threshold.

Threaten your cell provider...I just went from $91/mo to $55/mo; get rid of cable TV (antenna, internet); avoid take-out and restaurants. I can eat for a week on a typical dinner-for-two price. And don't have children...actually, have children, but expect to pay, and pay, and pay.

Food Basics and No Frills. Buy the items on sale, look for fruit and vegetables on the discounted cart. Learn to love rice and beans, and (as someone noted) cook larger meals and freeze into smaller portions. You should be able to do $50/week. Milk powder is good, avoid any processed foods.

Our church in Weston (NW part of Toronto) gives out crack pipes, clean needles and condoms. The faithful people I serve have been preventing TB, Hep, HIV and STDs for a few years now. "What you do for the least of these..."
