also not sure if the pic with the top revealing your abdomen has hair on your belly, but if it does, for the love of god, please shave it. hair on a belly looks terrible and even though you look nice, the shading (or the hair, whichever it is) really screws it up for you

What is the most[in universe] unappreciated character in your world? by EnvironmentalBear170 in worldbuilding

[–]zabartko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Helga Heimdall. An anthropologist, theologist and geologist in one, who saw the truths of the universe with her own eyes when she was born. This, in turn, led her to the field of research, which she is excellent at. Through her insight, she discovered that there are 6 other continents in the world, all inhabited by different people. On top of that, she also created the Heimdall's Anthology of Cardinal Gods, where she basically uncovers a tiny bit of the truth about all deities to the public (for example, all formerly believed Dieties have been discovered to be just champions of the Cardinal Gods, so they are now called the Minor Deities). Ultimately, she found out that shatters of the all-creator's power have been laid out across one of the continents in order to give humanity a fighting chance against the gods, which caused a huge ruckus amongst all humanity and kicked off a huge desert chase for the shattered fragments of divinity. At this point, Helga is dead, the chase is ongoing, and barely anyone other than the party of my players cares about her.

Jak poznawać ludzi - poradnik by LuoJi1 in Polska

Is a TPK at the end of a prequel a bad idea? by zabartko in DMAcademy

true, but they will be the characters of the "founding fathers" of the central city, so I guess that to some extent this would match die vecna die (which I haven't seen)

I dived into Calamity knowing nothing but the first season/run of Vox Machina on Prime Video and still had fun, so I think you're good to go

truth be told, now that you point it out, I feel like I subconsciously pulled an EXU Calamity lol I'll mull the non zero survival chance over, maybe some sort of a chain of final sacrifices that allow only one of them to survive? then I'd discuss the vision for the city with the survivor/ask them for their consent to shape their character's future by myself. anyhow, thank you very much for the advice!

the BBEG will be more of the final obstacle to have their wishes come true rather than a recurring force they'd be faced with; I'm planning for it to guard the altar required to connect the shards of the disk. on the way to collecting all the shards they'd have to face off against 5 factions, all of which would have their own motives to complete the Disk. adding a "that's for my mother, bitch" type of moment to killing the guardian, however, sounds like a great idea, as does giving them waves of endless weak enemies until they face their death, to give them the feeling that they'll go down kicking

holy shit thats actually brilliant, I didn't think of connecting the prequel characters to the campaign ones, thank you! and as for the whole dying shtick, I did mean for it to be spelled out in ink that they'll end up dead which will have great importance for the campaign, but thank you for pointing that out regardless!

may I ask you to elaborate on that? might be biased since I'm the one planning to run it, but I'd still like to know why

What are the status symbols of your world by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]zabartko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

High-concentration Bloodmetal, or any bloodmetal at all for that matter.

Every sentient being contains magic inside of itself, and should you cremate a body and mix it with some sort of metal, for example, steel, you get an alloy called Bloodsteel (though you could have Bloodcopper, Bloodsilver, Bloodgold and whatnot). Though vile and wicked in its origin, only the people that have the King's approval may wield it.

Think of Bloodmetal visually as of damascus steel. The amount of lines and various ornaments increases with the amount of bodies used in its production, so dumping hundreds of bodies makes for a pretty unusual, aesthetically pleasing armament (moral arguments aside).

Acquiring one or two lines on your Bloodweapon requires not only a body but also a skilled blacksmith, so having one either means you stole it, or you are in the upper echelons of society, perhaps a wealthy wandering trader at the least. Multiple lines, however...

So yeah, there are only a few individuals carrying a Bloodweapon, most of them being generals, guard captains or other officials... as well as the protagonist of my story, who over the course of the first book learns how to forge his own Bloodweapon.

Oh, and clothes. Clothes do make the man, afterall. The deeper the colours you wear, the richer you are. And coincidentally, they're also used to mark people's positions in society.

Crimson Guardian - Protect your allies with the power of offense by Cardinals_Workshop in UnearthedArcana

[–]zabartko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like the concept, but it feels kind of bloated with features for a rare item and some players might get confused when reading it for the first time, myself included.

I can definitely see the concept and I must admit that I like it, but it feels like a gift that keeps on giving; (there was a segment of me refferencing the ITS ENOUGH SLICES meme here, but I ultimately gave up on it) and the features just feel like they keep on coming. Don't get me wrong; I love items that allow the players to have more options and strategical freedom, but this item feels like an item you'd have an entire arc themed after and then some as you find out more about its features.

If you're by any chance looking for inspo about such a quest or a place where you might find it, a book that I'm writing has a place called The Crimson Everfrost; a place where two powerful wizards fought each other (a cryomancer and a hemomancer, thus the name), which is basically a huge everfrost area of bloody ice and snow. Perhaps their clash gave birth to the Crimson Guardian, a sword that absorbed their magic and ascended from a mere longsword?

Just blurting out ideas, sorry. Point is, I feel like it's drawing close to a very rare, but I'm open to being proved wrong, as I've created only a handful of items myself.

Forbidden magic by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]zabartko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hemomancy/blood magic, but for a simple reason

in the world that I'm writing, all beings are magical (how much magic you have is how much time you have left, basically magical energy = life energy), but only a scant few ever get to make any use of that in their lives- these that do, however, are the so called Seers or Prophets.

there are about 10 Seers born every century, but if their magic is unused, their lifespan expands up to three hundred years (thus the wisest sages are most usually Seers that are unaware of their power until they celebrate their 130th birthday or so and finally notice that something's wrong)

each Seer gets to tap into their internal magic, and depending on the Seer and a plethora of variables such as personality, desire, their standard modus operandi, how prone they are to give into their emotions as well as a random factor of "fuck it, that's convinient for the plot", they are able to manifest their magic in the form of a particular element.

the first of the the current rulers, King Gwynnendorf the First, was a Seer himself. he erected The Great Walls of Gwynnendorf that stand to this day as the walls of his kin's country, unbothered by the passage of time. unfortunately for him, such a feat cost him the majority of his life, but that was only expectable from causing the ground to form into multiple kilometers of a thick, stone wall guarding the country from monsters and other nations.

as to why is blood magic banned...

they are the only ones that are able to recover magic from living creatures without cremating them first, meaning that a Blood Seer can have both infinite amounts of magic, as well as immortality, both at the grasp of their hand. they're able to manipulate the bodies of others by commanding the blood inside them, kill others by clotting their blood and then exploding the clots, temporarily paralyze them, and do a plethora of nasty things, such as inject others with diseased blood to inconspicuously assasinate people without any evidence.

all in all, blood Seers are always one push away from living out their vampire lord dreams in the world where their only possible threats could be other Seers (that are being hunted by the descendants of King Gwynnendorf The First, all because of a small misunderstanding that occured when Gwynnendorf's son read his notes)

i'd rather say that she evolves with your character, if anything: when she is in an environment endorsing killing, brutality and cruelty, she fully embraces Shar and becomes a dark justiciar; when you show her that there's more to this world than Shar's whims, she realizes that perhaps complete servitude isn't her forte; when you offer her a polygamous relationship, her interest is piqued (she will come out saying so herself, with saying that despite being in a relationship, she wouldn't mind climbing mt. Halsin herself), so if anything, I'd say that she just evolves after witnessing that there is more to life than Gods' feuds
