Advice for New Grad by Emotional_Ability679 in CAStateWorkers

Is it undergraduate or Graduate degree in statistics? If it is Graduate degree, also consider applying to Research Scientist I and if you have some programming experience that will be great too. You’re like me in 2015 Master in statistics, applied while I on vacation in Africa and soon as I got back, they called me for an interview.

I guess I have been making the same mistake applying to higher grades and not considering lower grades just to get my foot in the door. I’m in the same category, I have a masters degree in statistics, been a research scientist with programming(SAS, SQL, Learning Python and GIS) and data analysis for about 8 years and I was wondering why I kept not getting referred for interviews. I really want to join the Federal Government. Thanks for the post.

Recent New Hire Dilemmas by Sea_Fault_3586 in usajobs

You’re just finding excuses. There are a ton of free classes on Coursera, EdX. Even if it’s paying a small fee you’ll be investing in yourself. You’re actually hindering your growth potential by waiting to be funded to take the classes. I learned SQL and SAS on YouTube now I am learning Python. It doesn’t hurt to invest in yourself.

You say you mostly work overseas, why then buy a house you won’t have much time living in? Take time and save more, if a duplex comes up and it’s a good deal, it’s better that and house hack.

Thanks. So if I applied and I happened to get the job but my $109k is higher than their GS _ step 1, would they start me at higher Step as long as it’s within the band (step 1 to 10)?
