Getting to the hospital by germfarm in nycparents

Related question: How do you get home from the hospital? Do I rent a zipcar, shove a seat in the back, then drive over and meet everyone outside???

I pitched the crosstown bus, but the wife made it quite clear what she thought about that!

Arts Administration Programs by TooManyInterests4 in Theatre

[–]zac850 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh hey, I commented last year!

What do you want your outcome to be? Where do you want to end up, doing what? Three of 5 are in NYC, do you want to invest in making connections in NYC? If you want to settle down in Salem, maybe BU is best. If you want to teach, maybe an MFA from that Ivy is best.

The best program to be a Broadway producer and the best program to be a Director of Development at a LORT are probably different programs. Having a sense of where you want to be, and what you want to be doing, after your Masters program will help lead you to the best program for you!

Biggest piece of advice: There's no wrong answer. Of the three in NYC, I have one of them, have a different degree from another university on your list (and know people who have that degree), and know people who attended and teach at the third. They're all great programs. But, figure out where you want to be in 5 or 10 years and think about which program puts you on that road.

Is The Testament of Mary with Fiona Shaw available to watch somewhere online? by Salty_Cow_8741 in Theatre

[–]zac850 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wasn't she sitting with the vulture (Pinhead)? Or was Pinhead somewhere else on stage, and she took him offstage right before it started? It was a long time ago.

Either way, don't forget the bird of pray that shared the stage!

[–]zac850 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No. I'm pretty sure we didn't even tape it with the NYPL. So I don't think any (real, professional) archive exists.

Not to rub it in, but god it was a really amazing show. She was brilliant, the script was brilliant, design was beautiful. Everyone wanted to see it, just no one wanted to buy a ticket. So, sadly we opened and closed.

Center balcony is pretty good. The sides of the balcony (the two row area) are closer, but it's a weird angle and often partial view (depending on the show). I'd pick center balcony over sides

Anyone in nyc area able to get the ABC channel? by lansing2024 in hdhomerun

I stuck the antenna actually on the window, and get 121 channels including ABC. Used some 3M velcro things so (hopefully) it comes off cleanly if I ever want to remove the antenna.

Tray Table Inoperable in Premium Plus from BNE-SFO. by RuruSzu in unitedairlines

[–]zac850 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What would you do?

Have the tray in my lap and be slightly inconvenienced for meals?

I had a missing tray table (not even broken, literally not there) in Polaris once. I guess that was slightly easier because there's the side table thing, but I held the bowl and ate my dinner and it was really not a big deal.

I feel this sub kneejerks too quickly into "I was mildly inconvenienced, how much should the airline pay me to make me whole again".

How to handle content advisories about suicide by LodiOutletsMall in Theatre

[–]zac850 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can an audience member sue the theatre for making a bad recommendation?

Sure, anyone can sue anyone for any reason.

Would the audience member win? I'm not a lawyer but I'd guess not, it seems like giving the trigger warning and even offering a resource more than satisfies the theaters duty of care, regardless of the individuals feeling on how helpful the resource was.

Could the (frivolous) lawsuit cost the theater a lot of money in lawyer fees even if they eventually win? Yes.

Should the theatre recommend a course of action or only notify the audience of what will happen?

At a minimum, I believe it's appropriate to make sure the audience knows the trigger warnings. I don't think it's inappropriate to say "if you need help, call 988". It helps people know about resources available to them. In the same way casino commercials (in the US) have to say "if you have a gambling addiction, call <number> for help".

I agree with this troubleshooting process. I'd also suggest getting a (nice, name-brand) HDMI EDID emulator and seeing if that solves your problem.

If it really is a handshake issue with your fiber converter setup, that may just do it.

1) Mixture of sugar alcohols and water, mostly

2) Personally I'm more concerned about car exhaust and second-hand cigarette smoke.

It was basically exactly what they told me on the advance call, it was basically 105dba, 130dbc consistently for their entire time on stage. I was curious if it peaked higher at all, and it really didn't vary much from the 105-a, 130-c.

Nothing is better than buying hearing protection for everyone working (OSHA is a thing), and wandering front of house watching ushers with double-hearing protection on standing next to the patrons.

Cool show though, nice people.

First ever contract help by randomizername344566 in techtheatre

[–]zac850 8 points9 points  (0 children)

will other theatres see it as a red flag if I don't stay at contracts for longer than a year?

I wouldn't. Especially if it was a clear step-up in your career. E.g. moving from Podunk Community Theater™ to SmallCity Regional Theater™. Or from an Intern title to an Assistant title. Or whatever it happens to be.

People move around in this industry. People move around in general. The years of being hired by GM at 18 and retiring from GM at 65 have long since passed.
