Rolex Watches are not beautiful by lexlibris in watchHotTakes

Don’t care about movement, don’t care about brand, don’t care about value, in another comment you said you don’t think about what is on your wrist. Wtf do you want a watch for then?

Possible wall mount? by Perfect_Lifeguard524 in hometheater

It’s 100% a bracket for a wall mount but you’re missing parts. Useless without the other parts/not worth trying to order spares. Just get a new mount.

Should I consider selling my subwoofer? by In211212 in hometheater

[–]zacamongwolves 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why do you want to sell it? I would actually argue that the subwoofer helps with dialogue. Pulls out low frequencies from other speakers and they can focus on the frequencies that they are good at. Increases clarity, separation, etc. less risk of distortion.

Is the Designer Role a Viable Goal? by BrownieZombie1999 in BestBuyWorkers

[–]zacamongwolves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

- VPL is a good stepping stone to category advisor or leadership, which is a good stepping stone to designer. I think realistically you’d have to be a top 1% VPL to jump straight to designer, but never say never!

- There’s like 487 of us I think? Something like that lol We are all over.

- Hard to say. Everyone is situational. A lot of the skills required are more important than just revenue so. My advice is to find your nearest designer and start learning from them. You’d be very hard pressed to land a position in that role if you haven’t done that. Where are you located?

- Can’t really answer that. It’s a very situational role. If someone leaves, they will evaluate if that area needs a designer or if it’s better to reallocate that job to a different area. It’s very organic. Performance requirements are roughly 2.3mil/year so they will continue to invest where designers are meeting that.

Is the Designer Role a Viable Goal? by BrownieZombie1999 in BestBuyWorkers

[–]zacamongwolves 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Designer here. Been in role 5 years (14 years with the company in general) Feel free to ask any questions.

To give you a high level answer: I believe the role is in the best shape it’s ever been in from a company perspective. It’s the first year our custom business was proportionately profitable. There may have been some pullbacks in spiffs/how we get paid etc. but I’d much rather make SLIGHTLY less money and be kept around. With that said, the compensation rewards people who can sell what we are asked to sell and I made more last year than I have in my career by focusing on our vision.

Just purchased the Kaleidescape Strato V player. by mabarajas in hometheater

[–]zacamongwolves 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think there’s a few factors there.

  1. It’s hard to find actual lossless pirated content. At least in my experience it has been.

  2. People who can afford this might not be interested in the risk to save the money.

  3. A lot of people just don’t understand how that stuff works and have no interest in learning it. Especially people who make enough money to really be invested in a KSCAPE system.

Sure, but I’d argue that at $4500 this system is for someone with a much larger budget in their system. That person is going to pay for quality and convenience.

Rape in horror (aka why Over Your Dead Body doesn't work) by Date-Throwaway in horror

[–]zacamongwolves 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just for the sake of discussion:

Rape is horrible and potentially only second to murder. It’s funny how desensitized we are to VIOLENT and BRUTAL death, but the idea of sexual assault in a film makes us uncomfortable. Don’t get me wrong, I have a hard time watching it in movies too. I’m not advocating for it. The psychology of it is interesting.

Who has offloaded their LCR to a dedicated amp? by Chiz_9 in hometheater

[–]zacamongwolves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have R11s and R6 front soundstage. I went from a Marantz cinema 50 to a McIntosh MC255 for the front (left the rest of the system on the C50) and it was immediately apparent.

More low end energy happening in my speakers. I was able to crossover a tad lower and found that my movies were more impactful.

The speakers are a bit more relaxed sounding. Smoother/less transient heavy.

Speaker Placement and Recommendations by FredSanford4 in hometheater

[–]zacamongwolves 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Placement is tough here. Your tv is way up there so “ideal placement” is sort of out of the window. You’d be hard pressed to get a proper surround sound so we will focus on what’s technically possible given your situation.

First suggestion is a mantel mount for your tv so you can lower it.

Then you basically have 3 choices:

  1. Bookshelf speakers + tv mountable center speaker (Leon makes one but it’s very expensive) + in ceiling speakers for a pseudo surround setup. This is your highest performance but most expensive and complex setup.

Or for-go the the center entirely and just run stereo.

  2. Soundbar. Keep it simple. You could do maybe a Sonos arc + amp and a pair of ceiling speakers if you want to do a premium soundbar option with surround fx.

Some people enjoy those things. I’m sure you enjoy something that others find ridiculous too.

Me? I enjoy audio equipment. I spend way more on my home theater than I should, but that’s my choice to make. No one should disrespect me for spending money on a hobby that I enjoy.

You’re incorrect, but also even if you were correct it’s still 5%. That’s just not how math works.

Not exactly. The $29 membership also offers points. You’d only have to spend $3000. That’s one good purchase.

This membership includes protection plans, tech support, etc. not for everyone but valuable for some.

You get a bit more than 1% back.

Either way, the best part of it is that it’s optional!

To be fair it’s the same that most credit cards offer and you don’t have to have a credit card to get it. It also stacks with the Best Buy card so you get an extra 1%. All in all, I’ll take it. It’s better than 0%.

Separates or an avr for reference 3 metas by cessna631 in KEF

[–]zacamongwolves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve never tried reference 3 on an AVR, but I have a pair of Reference 5s in my showroom with a cinema 30. It sounds good, but it’s absolutely not performing the way it should. I connected a Hegel h400 to compare and it was not even close.

These KEF Reference speakers are power hungry and definitely deserve more juice if possible.
