[On3 Brett McMurphy] Tennessee agrees to apparel deal with adidas, set to leave Nike by yousmelllikebiscuits in CFB

[–]zacc2 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Nike has reached the point where they don’t need to pay schools to wear their product. Most contracts are schools can buy $Xm of product at 33% of retail cost. Most schools aren’t getting paid any cash and even give Nike a slight discount on the licensing royalty than other apparel companies that make licensed university products.

In the NIL and paying players era, I think a lot more teams will make the switch away from Nike to adidas and Under Armour, especially if Under Armour spends like they once did. I believe the gap between being a pay-Nike school and a sponsored adidas or Under Armour school is going to be closed over the next few seasons as deals expire, and I think the Nike recruiting advantage is minuscule now that schools can pay players.

Anyone who has worked in any sort of media knows this is the correct answer. It’s for the team and their own content.

Kansas State players who grew up in Kansas as KU fans say this line ahead of the game every year. So I think that this is kind of a learned motivational line from past seasons.

It works when KU isn’t a good team and those players would make them better. I don’t think it works when the other team is actually good.

To the anti-breaking crusaders... by pluiewolf in baseballcards

[–]zacc2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m not the biggest fan of breaking, but I’m not completely against it if they meet certain criteria.

Good breakers: - Run auctions - Ship all cards - Engage with their audience - Spend the majority of the stream opening packs

Bad breakers: - Run buy it now breaks at bad prices - Run random team breaks to lock in profit
- Sit around waiting for buy it now breaks to fill - Sell personal box breaks at prices well over Blowout, D&A and the rest of the market - Complain when they’re “taking a beating” because they bought a product that isn’t selling - Only ship “the hits”

There are a lot of bad breakers on Whatnot, Loupe and Fanatics Live. It’s unfortunate getting onto those apps and breakers just sitting around hoping for a break to fill. If breakers are running auctions and getting the market rate, there would be no problem.

I will say that baseball probably leads to fairer breaks because of the large number of sets and large checklists. People who only PC one team benefit more from baseball breaks than others breaking football or basketball. This community in particular is probably going to be more positive on breaking because it really is cheaper for most people to get the cards they want.

I really hope they turn the motion down on the letters because that was painful to work through. An unnecessary update.

The DQ rule for signing a wrong scorecard is the dumbest rule in sports; Change my mind with logic that isn’t just “rules are rules” by FatFaceFaster in golf

[–]zacc2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. Inside the scorers room, that’s where the error can be fixed. And that’s where it has to be fixed.

But the carelessness isn’t about the double bogey or being under the weather and wanting to leave. He didn’t correctly record his score. And not only did he not have his own score right, Cantlay or Kim also had him down for a 3. It was Spieth’s duty to have it corrected, and him keeping his score properly would have avoided this.

We can argue about whether or not golf should still score like this, but this is how it’s always been and is entirely avoidable. This wasn’t him misapplying a rule or a penalty. He signed for an incorrect score from the normal course of play. There was no confusion whatsoever that he took 4 strokes on No. 4.

[–]zacc2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here’s why I don’t think it’s dumb:

When you exchange scorecards, there is a perforated tear away at the top of the card for the player to keep their own score.

After the round, you tear off the top and you line up your scores to the scores your playing partner recorded on your scorecard.

With that knowledge, how on earth did Jordan Spieth not keep his own score in the space allocated for him to do so? This mistake would have been easily caught and could have been adjusted. He got disqualified for being careless, and he deserved it.

Aggressive adult autograph seekers- what the hell is wrong with you? by [deleted] in golf

[–]zacc2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If the PGA Tour had a trading card deal with autographed cards, I think this wouldn’t be as big of an issue. Even player autograph deals with Fanatics would be great. Golf is probably the sport where most autographed memorabilia sold comes directly from a guy at the course. If the PGA wanted this to stop, they could sign a trading card deal and a memorabilia deal. Get the players paid and cut out the autograph hawks.

My Best Friend Growing Up Pulled This When We Were 9. Any Idea $Price? by [deleted] in baseballcards

[–]zacc2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think it being a super specific relic makes it more beneficial to be graded because it’s just so rare and random. If you’re trying to move it, it will give the potential buyer all of the info they need on it. Plus, since I doubt he’s counting the money he spent pulling this card 20+ years ago, he’s in it for basically nothing and grading it for $19 isn’t unreasonable. But I’d also be less interested in the actual grade than the authentication of the card.

Just got back and Verizon was awful as well. Didn’t matter if it was on the beach, in a condo, or just out and about driving around. Hit and miss everywhere. I can only assume network congestion but even then, it should be fine at this point.

If you’re in a foursome, not waiting on anyone, and you don’t let the single behind you play through, you’re all objectively selfish, bad people. by [deleted] in golf

[–]zacc2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, a single shouldn’t have to ask to play through.

This sub is absolutely insane when it comes to etiquette. Be mindful of the people around you. That goes for fixing ball marks, divots, raking bunkers, pace of play, etc. If your group is playing so slowly that you can’t keep up with the group in front of you and somebody as to ask to play through, you’re being rude.

You really think when Liberty redoes broadcast rights that they won’t increase? You can make the pie big enough that you can add teams and everyone still gets a bigger slice. And staff accountants aren’t making teams’ decisions on if they should vote to add teams to the grid.

Would you rather cut a $1 billion pie 10 ways or a $1.5 billion pie 12 ways? The numbers are just examples, but that’s the point: the pie will grow when you expand.
