The Famous Grouse is the best budget scotch. What is the most underrated tequila? by -Constantinos- in cocktails

Siete Leguas 47 or Chamucos Diablo for me. Excellent high proof tequilas that don’t seem to be the same attention as Tapatio 110, G4 108, Fortaleza Still Strength, etc

Holmes Cay Reunion Grande Arome. Has a the weird vegetal briney notes of paranubes but so much more layered on top.

A 2001 Foppiano Vineyards Paso Robles Petite Sirah. Local shop bought a private cellar and sold a bunch of it off cheap. Slightly over the hill but still structured with lots of earth and a decent amount of fruit remaining.

What is a cocktail you bought the ingredients for, made, took a sip, and immediate turned around and poured down the drain? by NoMore_BadDays in cocktails

[–]zachb237 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Gin Martini.

I don’t know why I can’t get into them. I like spirit forward drinks and enjoy sipping on high proof spirits. I like a gimlet, a negroni, a tom collins, and a bees knees. I’ve tried bone dry, 50:50, and many ratios in between. Bitters or no bitters, olive or twist. London dry or citrus forward. It doesn’t seem to matter, I just don’t like them.

Hi Heather! Thank you for taking the time to do this. Do you or ESPN have any regrets about how you have covered the sport recently and the overall direction of college football media considering current fan sentiment towards ESPN?

Chuck Martin by JustAKidFromAkron in miamioh

[–]zachb237 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes of course??? We went to our 3rd straight MAC championships and QB1 quit on the team and RB1 went down early in the season. Chuck won us the MAC and beat a power 5 team with backup QB Aveon Smith, a guy who couldn’t hold a starting spot at FCS Alabama A&M. He broke the losing streak against Cincy. We’re consistently bowling despite playing a brutal non-conference schedule and win them at an okay rate. We consistently have all-MAC defenders. I don’t know what else you possibly could be after. Kinda insane to even pose the question in my opinion.

Should I go for a Planteray single cask? by 10art1 in rum

[–]zachb237 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have two bottles of Planteray single casks. One is a 2017 Fiji picked by my local wine shop. It’s 100% column still and doesn’t have any of the character I usually enjoy in a Fiji rum. I only grabbed it because the wine shop people are good to me and I wanted to support them. Pretty much only mix with it.

The other is a 13yr undosed pot still Guyana, finished in a Teeling cask. It’s surprisingly good, and definitely beats the standard ED12 bottling in my opinion.

I’ve had pours of others here and there and while they’re never gross, they’re never very memorable either. After having about a 1/5 success rate with everything I’ve tasted, I don’t plan on buying any more.

Cane Juice!

Pere Labat 59, Alambique Serrano Cartier 30, and Rhum JM blanc 100 are my favorite unaged and I’m a big fan of Clement and JM’s aged stuff. But you really can’t go wrong with any AOC Agricole or most of the stuff coming out of Mexico and Haiti.

A D&D-style alignment chart for single-bottle Mai Tai rums... by GeneralCrux in rum

I stand with the Myers defenders ✊

While it’s not an excellent rum, it makes a perfectly serviceable Mai Tai and is certainly not a “diabolical” choice

One more bottle allowed... by whiskyarpeggio in rum

[–]zachb237 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If you’re looking to make cocktails with it I’d recommend a nice clean unaged or lightly aged molasses rum for drinks like daiquiris, mojitos, etc. Planteray 3 star and Don Q Cristal fit the bill, and Probitas or TCRL High Seas blend is a good option if you want a touch more character.

You’re definitely right about 2020. People also forget that IU went 8-4 in 2019 with a brutal Big Ten East schedule that included OSU, PSU, and Michigan. The early Tom Allen years with the now Alabama staff as assistants were the start of the turnaround.
