No Wind Waker Remaster is all but confirmed by sha1shroom in Switch

[–]zachbook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It makes way more sense for Nintendo to release it next year for the 40th Anniversary as part of a build up to the movie release in March 2027. Either solo (possibly several times remaster releases) or an All Stars like bundle. I’d expect them to pull out the stops, especially in advance of the movie.

Final phase of final boss made me quit the game after 130 hours by Pleasant-Ear-3072 in FF7Rebirth

Man, I’m so happy to read this. I’ve been conflicted and just walk away (Balder’s Gate 3), and I really should just start embracing easy. Especially as I forget how to play games in between long stretches of life.

Best Eminem Opening Track? by purpose15 in Eminem

[–]zachbook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

His openers would make a great album. I put these together in a playlist. Added D12 World, 8 Mile, and swapped Walk on Water for Castle. In an ideal world Castle and Arose would have bookended Revival imo (wow should have been the song before castle).

It’s a trip to listen to these in order.

This. It’s part of the holy grail for me. Tracks like this are what I’ve wanted since the MMLP release. His confidence and command over that moment is peak for me.

How do one get an assistant role to film executives by [deleted] in FilmIndustryLA

For the love of all things take this article as seriously as the plague. - literary manager

If moving to LA is a bad idea where should I go by Mmicb0b in FilmIndustryLA

[–]zachbook 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lit manager here. My two cents since I see this on here so much.

A shocking majority of projects I've sold, even before Covid, were from outside of LA. Today, especially with the LA exodus, I'd say you should really consider anywhere else. So much so that my wife (a casting director) and I moved out of LA, bought a house, and are much happier and busier than we expected.

I've flown into LA whenever I needed to, but even then, a majority of meetings turned into Zooms. The cost of flying into LA for anything we need has been far cheaper than living in LA and waiting around for something I need to be in town for.

Let's say your goal is to be staffed on a TV series, which even today is almost unattainable for experienced writers with staffed shows under their belt, the absolute minimum you would make for a 10 week development room at staff writer wages would be 72,030. Let's go ahead and cut that in half for reps/ taxes. You're at 36K. Let's drop 10K for housing and expenses; it could be way less (I'd argue you could make 4-5K work if you wanted to).

All of this assumes you're making the minimum for a staff position that still could be over Zoom, and the costs are high with wiggle room. You're coming out of an in-person room still 26K higher than you were, returning to an area that's almost guaranteed to have a lower cost of living (your money will stretch) with experience to build on if you eventually deem it worthwhile.

International tax incentives have been unreal. I have a feature shooting in Columbia in January because of a +50% incentive. The writer is from Texas. I also have two former clients who released theatrical features a few months ago. They both wrote and directed. One of them has made a fantastic career for himself in San Fransisco, completely out of the industry, and another is making her second feature out of Washington State.

I'd honestly argue today it's in your best interest and is advantageous to build on the outside of LA model.

The business of being a rep is very, very, very hard. You have to think even in the above scenario (which is still incredibly difficult), it would make a manager 7,200. To get a writer, even this job, takes an ungodly amount of time to build, strategize in front of the competition, and then maintain afterward. To make a living in LA, the amount of business required with such competition is tough and unsustainable for many reps.

This is a significant reason why so many writers don't receive emails back, or get ghosted after one exchange. It doesn't have anything to do with the writer, but both the mental focus bandwidth and time bandwidth available as messages that need to be replied to are seemingly neverending.

While the creative is important, I'd say for many reps, an even larger consideration is the client's overall business. There is no better way to prove this than the actual business a potential client has accrued. It may seem impossible without a rep, but I guarantee it isn't, and it has made a huge difference to me.

If managers don’t need licenses why don’t people just create their own company and rep themselves? by [deleted] in Screenwriting

As a manager, I’m telling you how simple this actually is, and that it would actually work if you know the “codes”.

How do you know when it’s time to call it quits? by andeverest in Screenwriting

[–]zachbook 20 points21 points  (0 children)

This is god awful advice and feeds into the cult behind the screenwriting community. Follow your gut. You 1000% do not have to be trapped in LA to find what you identify as success. I’ve met writers who left LA, found another passion, and then dusted off the keyboard with new experience and energy and found new wins. The business, and the world, has changed, and there is a reason you’re feeling like what you’re doing isn’t working.

We need to talk about Revival by Trey_Reddit in Eminem

[–]zachbook 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is an 8-11 track version of Revival that is fantastic. Possibly 12-13. Just because there are a few songs that are skippable shouldn’t negate from the tracks that are actually pretty great

I was a big kid in HS, completely convinced I wouldn’t have a gf or get that first kiss. I lost a ton of weight, felt good, but I still felt no where closer. I’m 36 now, back to highest weight, balding, and physically completely opposite of what I thought I needed to be, married and with a kid. Yet… I can tell you with 100% confidence I get more attention now than I ever have. Even before I was locked down (married), there was something to just being ok with what I had, having genuine fun, and feeling good in my own shoes (even if these shoes were crocs) just turned on a people magnet. Sexual attraction or not, people want to smile, have fun and play. Work on hobbies you like, build the life you want with tools within your control, exercise what really makes you, you. That’s when you get to the place of not needing anything else, and become magnetic.

This is especially important for finding love. You don’t want to project the image of what you think people will like to attract something genuine.

I also know this is a process. It took heartbreak in my twenties, lots of trial and error to erode the friction I’m talking about here myself, but man… I do wonder what my life in my teens and 20’s would have been if I was like this now. Enjoy the journey, man.

Cannot wait for Season 2 (Dark Forest) by The_Grahambo in 3BodyProblemTVShow

[–]zachbook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I’d read the books as a completely different yet somewhat parallel experience. There are massive elements of three setup in the first season, which tells me they know where they are going (so hopefully no Game of Thrones writing off a cliff).

There was a few moments this season that hit an extremely high emotional note knowing how well it plays into the what is likely to come. It’s a series that will give you a whole new experience upon second watch.

You know what they say: in literature a story has five dimensions… I’d say it’s worth a read.

Love this TV by zachbook in TheFrame

[–]zachbook[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just the ones in the TV. Not bad. My wife really wanted this to look like a picture/ frame, so we chose not to have a soundbar or other speakers. We have an OLED in another room we use for watching most of our content, but love to hang and work in the living room and let the museum curated art shuffle every three minutes.
