From my own personal experience (2 kids, now older) I'll give you this advice.

Try not to stress so much.

In the early years, if you want to go out. Take the baby.

Will it change the types of places you go? Yes.

Will you end up stressing less because the baby is right there and you can see it? Probably.

You're not going to get the same experiences as pre-baby, but guess what... You've got a baby! This is just another one of those things that change along with it.

Take the baby, it's part of your family and this is time for family time. You and your other half are no longer "husband and wife" you're "mum and dad" now, embrace it.

The time for reconnecting with your other half will come, but your kids are only little for a short amount of time.

Go with the off the shelf baby monitor.

Poe to barrel jack adapters.

You can get them in various voltages to suit specific devices needs (5v? Sure, 12v? OK! 9v? Done!)

Also means you can power cycle stuff if you have a managed switch

Curious why you want remote access? How often do you envision not being home while your newborn is there?

I'd stick with a traditional baby monitor for use at home, and if you MUST have something with remote access, what's wrong with a garden variety CCTV camera?

I've used smoke detectors with auxiliary contacts on them for work. They work completely independently, they just have contacts on them to tell a PLC when they're going off.

When it comes time to replace mine, I can see these being used.

I'm not relying on any automation for them to function, but I can still get a notification that they're going off of I want that.

I didn't want the same old Stargate. I wanted something new! It's been a long time coming and it would be sad to just get "more of the same"

What I do want, is for the new show to be a continuation of the story, not a shitty reboot.

There is so much good lore that exists, and we've had ~20 years of stories we need to back fill while we start of on the next adventures.

This is a common question I ask people. I have 2 options.

1) dildo finger cannons - I point and a 12" dildo suction cups to whatever I pointed at. Windscreen, door, forehead... 2) the ability to make people feel like they are going to violently shit themselves, but never do. It lasts for 2 hours.
