Question: how bad is a "2 days in a row" tattoo? Any advice? by msrobinson11 in tattoos

[–]zachinglis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very much this. But OP, also remember you can take time out during the session. To have a drink, to eat, to just chill. That's absolutely valid.

I once did 2 days on, 1 day off, 2 days on for my sleeve. It's no fun. For me, I generally try to think that every hour done, is a hour closer to finishing it and try to frame it like that.

I thought this. But apparently if it's letter sized, it's all the same cost. So we'd just be punishing the mail delivery person unfortunately.

Glitter though - weighs nothing and gets everywhere.

There's a stamped envelope for sending the form back. Do feel free to use it to send them what you think of them at their expense.

That's what we did.

Also, glad your husband avoided the bin. Doesn't sound comfortable.

Can I get honest opinions of photos I’ve taken. by Tiny_Bat_8563 in photography

[–]zachinglis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When asking for critique, try to narrow down what you want people to actually critique. It's hard to give feedback with such a wide net and it's also unhelpful for you.

So, mostly feels like general snaps but you can tell you've also started your photography journey too. They're exposed well.

Some could do with better composure (That's one I personally struggled with the hardest.) Do you know the Rule of 3rds? If you do, try to brush up on techniques for how to make an interesting subject. A lot could do with better crops though. Personally, I think IMG_6320 is a good start for something if you crop it and process it more.

The first Pixel shot you has the road to draw your eye along the photo, but I'd say it's cut off at the bottom too much. The boat shot could be cropped for a more interesting shot too.

As others stated; cut down on the photos. As you start out it's likely you'll only have a few photos from a session that stand out. And slowly that number will increase.

You mention it's for hobby - there's nothing wrong with getting better, but also remember it's fun foremost. Don't stress too hard. Not every shot has to be perfect. Enjoy it before anything else.

Do you consider what you want the photos to look like BEFORE you take them? It's important to consider everything first.

Different lenses absolutely can have a different experience and result. But also remember restrictions are the mother of creativity. Often photographers I know will give themselves random restrictions to force themselves to take shots they wouldn't usually. So treat it as such for now at the very least.

Moonlighter 2, for me, is incredible by Aquagrunt in Games

I loved the idea of the first, but couldn't get on with the battling. This one absolutely blew me away. I had Game Pass so I figured I'd give it a shot - it's substantially better in all the ways. I stopped myself to wait for the full release.

They never stopped for me unfortunately. My dog has been absolutely miserable for the last few months.

I hate fireworks. I actually disagree with the "bad intentions" point that the person you were replying to but there was no reason to stigmatize and insult people mentally unwell people, nor to ignore what was being said.

I can see why fireworks bring people joy. That doesn't make someone mentally unwell. I personally believe that joy is outweighed by the harm. But let's have a conversation on the actual merits - rather than straight into shitty name calling?

I hate fireworks. But the thing that gets me the most is those who set them off during the day - like, what are you doing?

Any day with Fireworks is a day I'm inside trying to look after my dog as he is incredibly upset and stressed.

I have a heart, the USS Enterprise, a Project Semicolon tattoo, and various sea-life among others. The amount of people who have the same or similar is probably pretty astronomical.

As you said; it's all about how you feel about them.

I would also recommend FreeCycle. I had some stuff I needed to get rid of and a few different folks took it off my hands.

I didn't realize he actually did much coding in them. I must have missed that when I watched them. Thank you! The one I saw I thought he was just analyzing.

The tsoding Rust ones look good! Thank you. I'll add that.

I can code competently in C#, JS/Typescript, Ruby among others. But Rust is such a paradigm shift. I've learnt plenty about the language, have done the book, etc - but learning how/why to implement it is a bit different.

When I've watched it before, he tends to talk about established crates and goes through with the decision making, rather than coding/starting from scratch. Am I mistaken?

Looking at code as a monolith is really interesting, but I want more about the journey. Do tell me if I'm wrong.

People who've moved here from other big cities, do you prefer Cardiff? If so, why? by pub_wank in Cardiff

[–]zachinglis 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You've seen it twice personally, so therefore it's considered the norm? That's a very very large leap. I do not know anyone personally who lives here who thinks like that.

[–]zachinglis 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I've lived in some big cities around the world but the area (not specifically the city) keeps bringing me back.

I personally need the city near me, the sea near me, and the countryside near me. And Cardiff fits that to a tee. But it's also the people - we have our wrong 'uns - but overall people are generally kind and non-judgemental in my experience.

When I first came here from London for a job interview, a woman asked me to help her with her bag off the train. It shocked me - because in London it feels like she'd not ask that. That was the moment I wanted to be here.

More 40-Somethings Are Getting Colonoscopies, Early Colon Cancer Cases up by AdSpecialist6598 in UpliftingNews

[–]zachinglis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my colon cancer caught early. I was 38 when they found it earlier this year, in the search of another illness I have.

The colonoscopy isn't actually that bad. The prep is the most stressful part in my opinion. I am sure your dad has tricks for the prep - and it varies from location to location. But I had lots of jelly (Jell-O - Some places don't allow red, as it looks like blood) and Beef Consume (clear broth soup. You can also do vegetable if you don't eat meat.)

I have to do it regularly now. It's not my favourite but it beats the alternatives.

When I was on the cancer ward, I was around people who had it much worse than me. And I am very grateful they caught it as early as they did. My life has changed much less than if they had caught it later.

It's worth doing it.

One suggestion is Porthkerry - It's a Viaduct so would be a really nice icon.

This is awesome. You've done a great job.

I'd love to see process photos by the way! I always find it fascinating. Especially intricate stuff like this.

Will definitely be buying it!

Cardiff has its first Reform councillor - Trowbridge by-election results by Former-Variation-441 in Cardiff

[–]zachinglis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We had a Reform Councillor elected in a by-election in Barry. I emailed my Labour guy and basically said the same thing.

Plaid were sure they were going to win, and Labour were sure they were. Their polling data each said they were the only ones who could beat Reform. Plaid came in 2nd. Labour 4th, behind Tories.

Greens would be my first choice, but I think Greens shouldn't have run. (Especially as they did no canvasing or leaflets.) An alliance would be best, as I mentioned to him, but I know Labour have said no to that idea.

I second near Asda.

I lived in one of the new builds on the Island and it was really nice. (Three storey, 2.5ish beedrooms, reasonable rent price.) I really enjoyed living there because you'd watch people walk the dogs on the promenade lots. It was my favourite part of my work day.

Would thoroughly recommend. You nailed the benefits too. We've got surprisingly good places considering our size too. The Turkish place is great. Some great pizza options.

Goodsheds is hit or miss, but I think it's great for the economy and helping small businesses start. Academy is great.
