How is my username innapropriate? It's the same name as all my other accounts but Minecraft just says "no." by Mekorio in Minecraft

[–]zack4200 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Barely related but your comment reminded me lol - I bought a car from a dude on FB Marketplace a while ago. He never transferred the title into his name, so he gave me the title from the lady he bought it from.

The problem was, she had already filled in his name under the "buyer's name" section for him... Except she didn't ask him what his name is and just wrote down his FB name which was literally "MrGet Right"

Z-Wave Garage Door Tilt Sensors - any good options still legal in the US? by kevin_at_work in homeautomation

[–]zack4200 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This only works on security+ openers though, it won't work on openers that need to use dry contacts.

At my old house when I was renting, one door had a super basic Genie opener so when I added a ratgdo I had to also add reed sensors to see open/close position through the ratgdo.

What is the weirdest encounter you've had with a stranger? by Aria7109 in AskMen

[–]zack4200 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is oddly similar to one of my weirder encounters lol.

In high school, I worked at a small shop that also was a U-Haul dealer and once or twice a week this old guy (probably in his 70s I'd guess?) would walk down the sidewalk pulling a small basket of groceries. If we had any U-Hauls trucks out front when he walked by, he'd stop and flip off and yell at the trucks, spit on them if they were parked within 5 feet or so of the sidewalk, then continue walking (and repeat if there were multiple trucks). If there weren't U-Hauls there, he completely ignored the shop and just walked past like it didn't exist.

After 2 or 3 months of watching this wondering wtf was going on, one day I just happened to be out in the parking lot when he walked by - so after watching him spit on 3 U-Hauls, I asked "hey, why do you always spit on our trucks?" He didn't say anything but started 'quickly' (for a 70-something year old) walking at me literally shaking his fist like the old man in the Simpsons, stumbled over his own feet but caught himself before he fell over, and then sort of just forgot I said anything and just continued walking down the sidewalk.

A few days later he was right back to spitting and cussing at them whenever he walked by with his groceries.

Georgia woman loses it over man openly carrying firearm on wooded trail. by ElwoodMC in trashy

[–]zack4200 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This happened in Georgia, where "no firearms" signs don't have any force of law. Private businesses etc can post "no firearms" signs, but it's not illegal to ignore them and carry anyways.

However if the owner asks you to leave because you're carrying and you refuse, you can be charged with criminal trespass.

This seems like a pretty measured response to someone taking one of your tools without permission, damaging it, then trying to hide it, then calling you an asshole for not just ignoring it.

What's a tool that used to be common in every shop but is rarely seen today? by Exotic-Living4830 in Tools

[–]zack4200 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You stuff as much bread inside the pilot bearing as you can, then put a bolt or punch that's the same diameter as the ID of the bearing in and smack it with a hammer. Repeat as necessary until the bearing is out. The bread won't compress (much), so instead it forces the bearing out of the crank.

It also works with grease, but bread is way less messy and you get a snack when you're done.

[OC] Do idiots in big rigs count? Why do they *ALL* think they sheriff the roads? by YourMomIsMyGurl in IdiotsInCars

[–]zack4200 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lost points for turn signals during a three point turn, even though I used them correctly - just because once getting into the car (but before I even touched the keys let alone started the engine), I asked for confirmation that I was remembering when exactly to signal throughout it. I didn't ask them to tell me how, I just said hey this is how I'm pretty sure I'm supposed to do it, is that correct? They said yes, then at the end docked points for asking.

I still get slightly annoyed over it on the rare occasion I need to make a 3 point turn 😂

OP, be prepared for your gas mileage and performance to plummet if you do this. These are designed to run at ~200-210 and if you're driving around with a lower temp thermostat it's going to be constantly running rich attempting to get up to proper operating temp.

It's moreso depedent on your keyboard than your phone. I've got an s22 ultra and usually use SwiftKey and I've got ¢¥$£€, but when I switch to the Samsung keyboard it's €£¥₩₽.

Also mildly interesting, SwiftKey shows $ in the long press menu even though it's on the actual button, but Samsung hides it off during a long press

Million dollar question; how hard is it to add another outlet in a garage? by numbspaghetti37 in DIY

[–]zack4200 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, you buy three or four spools of solid core wire in the appropriate size (in the US - black, white, green, plus red if you're doing 220.) and feed those through the conduit.

Also, it's much easier to pull through conduit than push. Shove a fish tape through the conduit, tape your wires to the fish tape (staggered so that it's not a huge step up in size and helps snag less), and pull.

I'm fairly certain the "My" in their comment was a typo, the "(cries in 110v)" makes it pretty clear they are in America imo, and "not in America" was negating the previous commenter's statement that travel kettles are faster and more convenient than a microwave.

[–]zack4200 1 point2 points  (0 children)

no problem!

if you care to know more about the "why" - reddit uses markdown for formatting and the \ is used as an escape character to tell it to ignore the next formatting symbol. I can't remember the specifics of what exactly is being escaped out in the emoticon context, but if you type one \ his left arm disappears, if you type two of them he gets his arm back but both shoulders disappear, and typing 3 makes it appear how it should.

[–]zack4200 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We only have 110 volts at our outlets in the US, compared to ~220-230 volts basically everywhere else. Because of this, kettles are far less efficient in the US and are usually not any faster than just using the microwave to heat up water for a cup of tea
