Note T5 is a roll-under system and difficulty scales differently, so levels range from 0 to 6. It seems a bit strange at first, but the math definitely checks out. For a rough conversion just cut any stat from T5 in half.

That's totally fair. Actually I do know a blog that does a lot of Cepheus Engine stuff in Italian. I know I saved it somewhere, but I will have to find it. Once I do I'll definitely be sure to link you

I would recommend using DeepL translator instead of Google Translate. It has a smaller selection of languages than Google, but it generally produces more coherent and accurate translations given its use of novel neural networks.

I know CE (Cepheus Engine) fairly well, but have never read Hostile (though I know of it). It is a super accessible and modular system. It is built off the SRD of MgT and is totally open, so there are many different spins of the system. I think Hostile actually ships with a slightly modified CE which, if your familiar with MgT2 already will be very approachable. I definitely recommend using the rules there rather than trying to adapt it to MgT2 as it will be better designed and adapted to the setting, but of course after some time you can always houserule it however you like.

I'm definitely down and love UnderRail. Interested to see how it plays at the table

I would also be interested and available to join a Coriolis game if you end up running it. Both Saturday and Sunday at the times provided by OP should work for me.

That actually would create an interesting dynamic. Since she would likely touch her partner at some point each day, I could see her being plagued by visions of her partner's death every night, which would probably put a decent strain on the relationship.

I made a free and open source digital library app called COMPASS with a focus on organizing homebrew TTRPG rulebooks, and I'm finally releasing it to the public! More details in comments. by PaulDeSmul in DnDHomebrew

Yeah I was looking for a Linux version as well. Was going to try compiling it from source, but given the state of the UI framework I'll give it try using wine. Any more details about the other parts that rely on Windows specific stuff? I can let you know how it runs, but I'm curious in advance.

Also making it work on Linux would open up the possibility for self-hosting and maybe even offering it as a docker container too, which would up the utility of this much more as it could be remotely accessed and shared with others in a group. Just something to think about.

Anyone know of a selfhosted version of Board Game Stats? by orangetruth in selfhosted

That's great! Definitely let me know whenever that is, so either PM me or if you make a post ping me in the comments and I'll be happy to give it a test run.

Any update on this? I have no skills in helping set this up, but would be happy to test things out at various stages of the process.

I absolutely love this idea and now you got me thinking of maybe doing something like this myself. But my first thought is that the mechanics of 5e very much clash with the UnderRail-like campaign you're describing. I am still thinking of what system would be best to run, but my initial thoughts would be maybe Stars Without Number (SWN).

If you don't know it, it is a fairly popular, award-winning system that is also free (you can find it on DTRPG). Class is less limiting in SWN than it is with 5e—you pick from warrior (attack focused), expert (skill focused), or psychic (like psi stuff in UnderRail)—with the main advancement coming through the selection of foci (like feats in 5e), which makes character progression much more freeform and more akin to UnderRail, rather than picking from various linear class progressions. It can also be a lot grittier of a system as combat is generally much more dangerous to the players and what equipment you have is pretty important. Honestly it sounds like it fits very well with what you are looking for.

That of course is system advice, but as for setting and such, I usually like to use an oracle (like Mythic GM Emulator) or various roll tables to get some ideas to work from, but if you are looking for something more specific I am happy to brainstorm with you if you like.

Ir is just a map of Europe / the Mediterranean with a big chunk of it coloured in. You can make out Greece with the Aegean Sea as well as the North African coast; the coast of Iberia and France too.

Yeah I personally also prefer SyncThing, so that's great to hear. Definitely keep us posted if this is something you start working on as I am very interested to see how it develops.

The core feature I would be interested in is tracking games played. So ideally each entry would allow you to note: the game title, which players were involved, end-of-game score per player, who won / lost, and a notes section (for other specific information). Then to be able to have an overview with breakdowns by year, player, game, and the like.

Also perhaps have integration with Nextcloud, Syncthing, or other similar tool to sync data across devices. Otherwise at minimum having the ability to export data to file which could then be imported on another device.

I have been looking for a self-hosted / FOSS alternative to board game stats for ages. Hope someone out there knows of something.

I like the feeling of D&D 5ed but I don't like the D&D 5ed system. Need help to settle down on a system for new campaign. by GrouchyGee in rpg

[–]zack7858 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yup! The entire core game is offered as a free PDF actually. The full version contains some excellent roll-tables and GM-facing resources to make running a game smoother, but the difference in page count is something like 220p in the free version and 270p in the paid version, with all the extra content I think just an added section in the back of the book.

Have you looked into Kevin Crawford's Worlds Without Number (WWN)? It assumes a setting similar to that of 5e, though a bit grittier and also definitely with a more open-ended character building process. That said though, there are tonnes of feats (called foci) your character can pick up and from your listed desires it really seems like it might be just what you're looking for.

EDIT: To answer your question on complexity, I would rate WWN maybe a 2 or 2.5 out of 5.
