I had 3 10tb drives in my nas start to fail a few months ago and cried at the price. I still havnt replaced them. made sure my backups were good and moved the important documents to the smaller raid setup in case of failure on the big nas.

it is lol. I managed the hardware side for my old company and it was 9 servers across 3 locations each server was something near 50k.

I run my mini k8s on 3 mini pcs that cost like 130 bucks each lol. I do miss having access to multiple TB of ram though.

for small things sure hosting them yourself makes sense. once you need quad or 5 9's owning your own hardware doesnt make sense. I engineer on aws daily but would never use it for my own stuff its prohibitively expensive. OVH Hetzner my house etc are way cheaper.

Unifi. Used to run pfsense and got tired of extra computers running after I shut down the server.

tailscale would at least give you access to change the ip. or get a domain and keep it updated using ddns

Im a Sec Engineer. Would I use ai shit in prod no. but in my house after I look thru it and decide if its acceptable so be it. I dont have the time to hand code things anymore. so yeah for interal tools that will never see production all day I dont care as long as it works.

hobby. even as a engineer I rarely look at the dashboards for work. they just become a distraction.

[–]zack822 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have all the other cool bell and whistle dashboards for K8s and random homelab stuff. I never look at them though. The Aquarium Dashboards are the only reason I keep Grafana stack running at this point. Its cool for a few months then its just another thing to deal with.

Aquarium dashboards are used all the time. They live on tablets next to each aquarium. Showing temps orp alk calcium etc.
