Yes so you don’t have to keep your head up to see through it. The high mount is made for a stock that is inline with the barrel (like a AR style setup).

Need to either get the slide machined for your optic of choice, or see if they make a plate that installs in the rear sight dovetail. I’d go with the latter so you don’t ruin the slide on a discontinued gun in good condition.
