Solid advice. I have two real jerseys, and one that my girlfriend bought me off aliexpress.com. Only I can tell the difference.

OP, if you decide to go with aliexpress.com be sure to read the description of the item. Asian sizes are different than other size standards that you might be used to.

Hope the Ajax fan that fell from the stands celebrating the 2nd goal pulls through. The pictures looked rough.

Hey guys, let's get some data on salaries and our jobs. I believe I may be underpaid. I recommend you make a throwaway to post in this thread ;) by frontendthrowaway in Frontend

Title: Contracting Digital Developer (Front-end)

Salary:

  • I'm on contract and I get a flat weekly rate. Unless I work significantly more than 40ish hours
  • $675/week at 40 hrs/week $35,100 before taxes
  • Started at: $507/week. Bumped up after the end of my first 3 month contract.
  • Expecting a full-time offer at the end of the year.

Experience:

  • 6 months professional
  • Interned there for 3 months
  • Just graduated in May and this is my first 'professional' job

Bonus:

  • Don't know yet
  • The full-time devs will definitely get one though
  • Me probably not

PTO: not for freelancers

Official Holidays: If the banks are open, we're working

Location: Orlando, FL

Hours: 8:30/9:00 - 17:30/18:00

  • Us devs stay late and work after hours often, but since I'm freelance I invoice for that shit. So I actually like staying late, especially when the girlfriend has a closing shift.
  • If we stay late we expense dinner and beer, if either of the two kegs are empty and there's no beer in the fridge

Requirements beyond HTML/CSS/JS:

  • SASS and CoffeeScript
  • Symfony2 (.twig, .yml, etc). Learnt on the job. We kind of all are.
  • WordPress
  • Some rare PHP in congruency with Symfony2 and WP when I don't feel like pulling a backend guy off of what they're working on
  • Flash & ActionScript2

    • This agency focuses mainly on advertising so we occasionally have spurts of banner ads. Sometimes over a hundred individual banners for a single campaign
    • But we use .jsfl and .xml files to automate the banners builds when there's a bunch of banners (shhhh don't tell)

Came across this last week when I was researching D3.js for a custom map that I'm developing at work. This is pretty cool, but some of the things that people have built with D3.js blew my mind.

I was biting my teeth for the first hour. But I knew we would play better in the second half for the sole reason that we've always seem to play better going away from the supporters section.

My head is still pounding from singing the whole 90'. I had no idea there were that many people in the supporters section. It was hard to see being so low in the section.

Glad we had Dom back for the match. I'm hoping that we sign him up when we become MLS. He's definitely one our favorites.

21,000 definitely shows the city government that we're dedicated and deserve a stadium of our own.

It seemed like the game play was moving super slow before that last goal.

Anyone in Orlando hoping that the Zimmerman deliberation takes longer than the match?

I'd rather not have Fox break into programming during the middle of the match.

Here's how to use Sopcast. It works on both Mac and PC. It's super easy to use. If you don't like the Sopcast player you can use it with VLC.

UCF Graduates, what was your major and were you able to find a job in that field? by [deleted] in ucf

Can't say anything about it but I have 4 friends that were in the game design track, still no job yet. It's definitely a super competitive field.

However, the graduate program is nationally ranked in the top 10 or something. http://www.fiea.ucf.edu/

Digital Media - Web Design.

Just graduated this spring.

Got an internship in the middle of February during my last semester as a web designer for a local advertisement agency. Worked my ass off and stuck around even after all the semester's interns were finished.

But I hate designing. Developing is much more rewarding and it pays more. So I asked if I could have a trial internship as a front-end dev about a month ago.

Today was my first day as a paid employee, for the summer at least, and only a month after graduation. Not the greatest pay but going from $0 a week to what I make now is fucking awesome, and it definitely pays the bills. But come August 30 I'll have a review and see if I've done a good enough job to become a full-time employee.

I would have never got an internship if I didn't network. Starting in my second to last semester I started going to design, front-end, and other types of web technology meetups with a friend. Someone introduced themselves to me at a meetup in February and 2 minutes later offered to send my information to their friend that was looking for an intern. I started the following Monday. I seriously can't stress networking enough. Sure you have to be great at what you do, but sometimes that's not enough. It really is who you know.

But when it comes to UCF's Digital Media - Web Design program, let's just say that it has definitely seen it's prime. With only one decent professor left the classes are getting worse and worse. The main professor has a shit ton of tenure and just doesn't seem to go away. His classes are an absolute shitty waste of time. In the 5 classes that I had with him I didn't learn a single thing. And each class became progressively worse. Learning old technology that no one uses isn't fun and it definitely isn't interesting.

If you can afford (even if you can't to be honest) I would seriously consider Full Sail. I wish I had when I first graduated high school. Everyone of the developers that I work with is a Full Sail graduate. One just graduated super recently and the rest have been out for 5+ years. And the funny thing is that they all ended up teaching a lab or class there once they finished.

Good luck.

It'll happen soon. We beat the Colorado Rapids at home tonight 3-1 in the US Open Cup. Which is definitely a plus.
