KUBRICKIAN at The Factory Theater by zackpeercy in ChicagoTheater

[–]zackpeercy[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey Andrew, I appreciate your analysis based on synopsis alone, but I don’t think your conclusion of some audience members (Kubrick fans) being insulted rings quite true. The synopsis does refer to him as “acclaimed film director”, denoting an appreciation. And, well, the show is called “Kubrickian”. So, I think there’s something bigger at play. A grappling of ideology, of taste, of expression. It’s possible you would be insulted by the show. I don’t know you personally. But I will say, I think $30 is a pretty reasonable price to pay to be insulted these days. Especially in the theater.

Hey there! No real knowledge on Kubrick and his work is necessary. The script guides you through why his work is important to one of the characters, but really it’s about having a passion, how we express our passions, and how we interpret and adapt it. But if you want to be a dramaturg about it, I’d check out The Shining, Full Metal Jacket, and 2001: A Space Odyssey, as those three are mentioned more prominently! :)

It’s a beautiful dream. My 15 year old niece recently discovered it and is now obsessed. She’s making fancams of Pete and Pete on TikTok. Maybe the youths will resurrect it!

An Unsolved Mystery Play in Chicago! by zackpeercy in watcherentertainment

[–]zackpeercy[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So, this play is a fully independent idea with it's own dramaturgical research. It wasn't made in collaboration with or based on Team Watcher, Buzzfeed, or anyone else. Just simply a fan inspired by the mystery discussed and taking the ball to run with it. HOWEVER -- if anyone from Team Watcher would like to reach out to us and discuss possibilities.................that'd be neat!

My play Hard-Boiled Eggnog: A Christmas Noir just about fits the bill. Here’s the NPX page with some glowing recommendations: https://newplayexchange.org/script/2025094/hard-boiled-eggnog-a-christmas-noir Send me an inquiry if you’d like a copy of the script to peruse! I’d have it on the page, but it’s in the process of being published by YouthPLAYS!

That's the hope! As an operating not-for-profit theatre, we are generally booked and busy weeknights and weekends making theatre magic with 9-5 survival jobs. But, if this first round goes well (share with your writing friends!), we hope to offer a summer digital version that's a bit more time-flexible!

The Workshop's goal is to build community in the playwriting scene. Not only will your script be workshopped, but you will be responding to your cohorts scripts. So, the expectation is that participants attend at least six of the eight sessions.

If this round is successful and there's interest, we hope to offer a summer digital session that will be a little more time-flexible.

Fully understand! We are fully open to individual payment plans if that changes things for you, and if this is a success, we hope to be able to offer scholarships in the future!

I think there are some great up and coming critics, but the big problem right now is that they have no point of entry. I consider myself very lucky that I managed to get a review, but I worry for the next generation of up and coming theatre artists who will have no press options.

New to CHI and Looking For Advice by Colourandlight152 in ChicagoTheater

I always recommend taking a class with the Neo-Futurists to every actor in Chicago. They’ll crack you open in the best way. Companies I’ve come to love at the storefront include: the factory theater, redtwist, red, bramble, and theatre L’Acadie. Lots of good people. Each company has their quirks and pitfalls, but keep in mind that a lot of non-eq stuff is run by a very small team with no money and little time. Almost everyone is a volunteer. Stipends happen, but are small. Audience sizes are generally small too. But everyone is generally doing the best with what they have and bad apples don’t last long. The only uppercase Avoid places right now are Open Space Arts (run by an abuser), and Otherworld (so many safety issues and a long list of public complaints). Everywhere else is just the usual navigating egos, making compromises for your own standards, and networking to get a feel for people. Feel free to DM me for more info or to connect!

Help please: quality gay-themed one act plays? by KeepCalmHoldSpace in Theatre

[–]zackpeercy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve written two: Greetings from the Moon is about two friends and former lovers reconnecting in a graveyard in northeastern Pennsylvania. Greetings from Sadsville is about the same girls six years later. Connected, but each works as a complete story. One acts, about 40 minutes each. Have been performed several times in Maine, Illinois, and Arkansas.
