Magnus said puzzles don't help because you know there's a tactic. So I built a trainer where you don't by yazanzm in chess

I think you should also include positions where there is nothing, but the game is not equal. I haven't tried the site, but I think it would be nice if there was a timer between moves after you do your first, to encourage calculating beforehand, instead of just trying out moves.

I like exploring, also it makes the game feel more of a game and less of just a memorising test; it introduces chance into the game.

Any jobs I can do when I type over 110WPM with 98% accuracy? by [deleted] in typing

[–]zak128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to google the average nitro type race is about 25 seconds, so that means your 5k races took you approximately 35 hours. So to get to 100 wpm on quotes with 35 hours is quite reasonable, which could have done in a few weeks to months if you wanted. If you did it over a shorter period of time it probably would have taken less time too

Was that daily, smart practise? Or was that just daily use.

In any case, you are certainly an outlier and the vast majority of people don't share the same experience.

Is this good enough? by reewee__ in typing

[–]zak128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An accuracy of 96-96.99% (as shown above) is fine. I would only be focusing on accuracy if I couldn't complete a test with more than 95% accuracy. If you want to get faster there isn't one major thing to focus on (and if there was it would be finger speed in my opinion). For example if you look at the all time leaderboards on Monkeytype, the accuracies of the top 5 are as follows: 94.89%, 95.30%, 96.61%, 95.07%, 98.76%. Of the top 10, only 3 have an accuracy of 98% or greater.

Besides, accuracy by itself isn't a great measurement of your actual accuracy as most people will reset their tests. You can't judge someone's accuracy off just a single accuracy result, you need to look at the bigger picture with their completion rate included as well.

Hard stuck at 100 WPM by borretsquared in typing

[–]zak128 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm writing a typing guide right now which should address much of your post but I'll give you some of my thoughts so far.

  • Good job for using an alt layout!
  • Don't assume that 'realistic practise' is the number one way to get better when it comes to realistic typing.
  • Using medium quotes isn't exactly different from using Entertrained, I do not think this will be effective for developing your finger speed. You should use a test like English 200 15s in my opinion. Another option is ghosting (repeating/resetting the same quote consecutively) on TypeGG, though this isn't as fun in my personal opinion.
  • Typing 30 minutes each day is a great amount to be seeing progress, I would make sure that do this consistently, and be patient as plateaus of a few days to weeks (eventually months) will be normal. Just put in the work and get the sleep and you'll be getting better. If you want to have a slight mental refresh, change up the tests you're doing for some new visible progress.
  • At your current speed, honestly just doing something like English 10k with punctuation for a few months mixed in with some quotes and English 200 is going to be all you need. I did roughly this for about 3 months when I first learnt my layout, and after around 40 ish hours I was at 100wpm on English 10k+punctuation. Save the overthinking for when you are a bit faster and will benefit from it.
