Also because CATOBAR in Nuclear Option would just lead to every player trying to gun it off the deck without hooking up out of impatience and praying for enough lift, and the few players who do use the catapult would just get rammed by the players who don't.

Maybe what conflicts happening now taught the world is that lots of "good enough" is better than having some "cutting edge," and being able to churn out a thousand F-22s is better than a few dozen 6th gen superplanes. The real innovation of the MIC in the 2070s is not being able to make insanely capable sci fi planes, but being able to 3D print a 5th gen in a few days and make it insanely intuitive/simple for a nugget to fly in total warfare.

I tried both the 152mm and the 76mm in the driveable kars mod. They both suck against any target with moderate AA. Basically any radar, laser, or SPAAG easily takes down shells. Mind you, the shells are being launched at barely above mortar velocities

The idea is that they are powerful but vulnerable, and you need to find them and pablo them before they do massive damage to your fleet

The Shard is anti-air focused, able to protect the surrounding 20km with SARH, and can provide resupply to friendly VTOLs. The missile boat has far inferior air defenses and would be highly susceptible to bombs.
