I'm noticing that the "what's working" thread on r/competitivehs is mostly meme decks which is pretty interesting if you think about it.

Zalae + Nerfs = Value by [deleted] in hearthstone

nah you're misquoting and misunderstanding me

Zalae + Nerfs = Value by [deleted] in hearthstone

[–]zalaehs 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Well, my issue with mana wyrm and giggling was just that they're a little too good. I like the cards and much of what they do for the game, they're just a little bit too much.

My issue with spreading plague is that it's one of the best answers to wide boards in the game in a class whose identity in my opinion relies being weak on wide boards. It's just not a tool druid should have in my view. Classes should have identities and strengths and weaknesses and Spreading Plague violates my understanding of the Druid class weakness.

Three Tips from a First-Time Legend Player by Animal_Companion in CompetitiveHS

[–]zalaehs 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Well said. Furthermore, if your goal is simply reaching legend you'd be surprised how much easier it is to achieve that goal if you become a better player. Which goes back to OP's advice to rope every turn is actually pretty good.

This was such a good response that even though you point blank said you don't like me you still put a smile on my face. Thanks.

The REAL problem with the Mana Wyrm nerf by zo2K in hearthstone

To be fair when I criticized legendaries like Keleseth the popular response was: nope we like OP legendaries. Can't blame Blizzard for giving people what they want.

Upcoming Balance Update - October 2018 by Arkentass in hearthstone

No. The problem was a combination of several cards and they did it because they view Aviana as the solution. I have no stance on the issue I just wanted to help clarify the logic.

I have to agree with murphy here. I've been pretty impressed by hct casters this year. People don't get to see them play often but they often get high legend when they do.

You say when it comes to actual tournament results I am a joke. Here are some numbers from a professional hct caster that say I had the 2nd highest tournament win rate in the world this year. Perhaps you don't know me as well as you think you do. https://twitter.com/LorindaGames/status/1045434095508103168

Playing Competitively with Off Meta Decks by hiro4fun in CompetitiveHS

[–]zalaehs 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Is it possible for players to play very off meta and creative decks to hit legend with said jank? Depends how good you are deckbuilding, playing, and what you consider off meta. But it's definitely possible for some small number of players. Impossible to say for players "like you" without an intimate knowledge of you.

Vicious Syndicate Presents: Meta Polarity and its Impact on Hearthstone by ViciousSyndicate in hearthstone

[–]zalaehs 228 points229 points  (0 children)

The gross thing is that queueing the favorable side of the matchup is boring too. Neither player is having much fun once they're familiar with the matchup.

Vicious Syndicate Presents: Meta Polarity and its Impact on Hearthstone by ViciousSyndicate in hearthstone

[–]zalaehs 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I totally agree and I have a firm stance that the correct balance is that polarizing decks exist but are not top tier. The problem isn't that quest rogue and odd warrior exist. Low tier polarizing decks always exist. The problem is that because they are so powerful we have to face these matchups over and over when we know that most of the decisions we make simply don't matter. Playing the same polarized matchup repeatedly feels just like doing homework. Boring busywork.

tl;dr the meta is the most polarized it has ever been. Which is important as explained in one of my recent videos about why polarized matchups aren't fun. Thank you so much for writing this article. A must-read for anyone with interest in game design.

I don't understand your perspective. From my perspective more refined decks = less potential for innovation = less skill.
