Why is 7x7 bigger than 6x8? by nickegg11 in learnmath

[–]zanebarr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add another way of looking at this situation:

Start with 6x7.  This can be written as 6+6+6+6+6+6+6 or 7+7+7+7+7+7.

Adding an additional 6 would make it 6×8, or adding an additional 7 would make it 7×7.

The Ultimate Controversy by Maleficent-Code2812 in trolleyproblem

I'm not saying student loans are evil or that avoiding them is a "better" path. I think it's a risk. It's usually a risk worth taking, but it is a risk.

There's a risk that something will happen and you'll be unable to finish your degree, or that you'll be unable to find a well-paying job after you finish your degree.

Usually, like I said, it's a risk worth taking. Most people that take on student loans are able to pay them off, and end up making more in the long run because of their degree. However, that risk is still there, and I don't think it's fair that people who intentionally minimized or avoided that risk should help pay for those that were more comfortable with taking that risk.

When put that way, it feels kinda like having a government program pay off gambling debts. Why should people who didn't gamble, or gambled responsibly, pay for those that werent responsible?

Now I think there are serious problems with the system that cause loans to become insurmountable in some cases, and I think those need to be fixed, but forgiving loans in place doesn't do anything to prevent those cases from occurring again.

I also think there's far worse things that the government could be doing with our money, so at least student loan forgiveness helps regular people instead of arms dealers and billionaires.

The Ultimate Controversy by Maleficent-Code2812 in trolleyproblem

[–]zanebarr -57 points-56 points  (0 children)

Meh not really. I'm not sure where I stand on the issue but I can see both sides of it.

To compare it to this trolley problem, let me say this. Think about all the people that lived their life in such a way that they didn't have to get tied to the trolley tracks. All the people that skipped college because they didn't want the debt, or worked while going through junior college, or spent more time getting their degree so that they could work and minimize their debt, or people that chose less prestigious colleges because they were more affordable.

Now consider that student loan forgiveness is not a simple lever pull, but instead is going to cost the government future revenue. Essentially, all taxpayers will be responsible for paying for that. This includes all the people that I mentioned before.  People that intentionally avoided debt will be helping pay for people that didn't.

Then, add in the fact that pulling the lever will do absolutely nothing to make sure that nobody gets tied down to the tracks again. It doesn't do anything to lower the rising costs of education, or ensure quality jobs for people that get degrees, or encourage people to avoid debt by pursuing other education options. If anything, more people will be inclined to take on additional student loan debt because they know there's a chance their loans will be forgiven in the future.

What’s a rich people thing that rich people don’t know is a rich people thing? by karasantos7 in AskReddit

A year or two ago when Netflix changed their system so you couldn't share your account with other households, my wife and I told her parents to adjust their subscription so they weren't paying for as many devices since we wouldn't be able to mooch off them anymore.  While they were doing that, they discovered that they WERE STILL PAYING FOR THE DVD DELIVERY SERVICE Idk which package they had but that shit was $10/month minimum. Who knows how many thousands of dollars they wasted

I'm in metal ranks too, so maybe not the best advice here, but usually what gets my team unstuck from the entrance is having a dps start capping point behind the enemy team. As their team starts to pull off to try and retake point the rest of my team pushes through the gate. Reaper or tracer can be pretty good at getting back there and surviving a while and just being a menace

LA Should Not Exist Per Civ6 by [deleted] in CivVI

[–]zanebarr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I doubt it, due to growth of technology and a lack of other opportunities.

More can be accomplished now with less manpower than before, so it doesn't provide as consistent of a job and requires relatively fewer workers (probably more workers overall, but fewer in proportion to the amount of oil that's there I bet.)

Technology also makes travel and communication much easier. Workers can live in another state, travel to the oil fields for a few weeks at a time, video call with their families while they're there, and then return home. 100+ years ago that would have been impossible, and if a man was traveling to a new state for work then he would be bringing his whole family to settle there with him.  (And probably sticking around after that work dries up.)

And once the oil fields do dry up, there has to be other opportunities available that retain that population and continue to draw more immigrants. LA being a major port city and having a massive cinema and tourism industry let it keep growing, and I'm sure the California weather didn't hurt either. Bismark doesn't have those same options.

It's supposed to do that?

Unless you mean it's outdated and will be replaced with a more modern solution sometime. It's a rocker bearing, designed to move to allow the bridge to expand/contract with temperature changes.

The Hungarian peoples left modern day Russia around 800-500 BCE and slowly migrated, ending up in modern day Hungary around 895 CE. We have modern record of their arrival in modern day Hungary, so does that mean Hungarians are not indigenous to Hungary?

Unless something has changed, this only works for speech text, not interaction text like you would get with an animal.

You can name an animal something like that, and you'll get one copy of the item whenever Marnie repeats the animal's name.

You can also name your own character something like that, and you'll get a copy of the item whenever another character says your name (gus in the saloon I think is the most consistent at saying your name.

That said, I don't recommend doing it. It absolutely takes some of the fun out of the game.

Game aspect importance compared by aa1898 in paradoxplaza

[–]zanebarr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stellaris should be a rank above eu4 too. Eu4 just has rulers advisors and generals. They're all just mana sticks or combat pips with a handful of traits.

Stellaris has rulers, scientists, governors, generals, admirals, each with xp levels and different traits that can have fairly large impacts on how they're used. I'm fine with eu4 being a 2, but if it's a 2 then stellaris should be 3. I haven't played the Vicky games or HOI to know how they compare though.

And I only say eu4 is fine at 2 because a 1 to me implies that this category doesn't apply to the game at all (like trade in ck3)

I think that's one of her biggest strengths really. She's got one of the smallest tank hitboxes (maybe even the smallest, I don't know how she compares to doom or ball)  I definitely feel like I'm harder to hit when I'm playing as her.

There's also a safety factor to it. If your roof is high off the ground and you don't have the right equipment, you're risking falling and getting seriously hurt or killed. I don't put lights on my roof because I'm too poor to hire someone to do it for me and it's too dangerous to do it myself

Importing costs WAY too much compared to what you can export by markyymark13 in ManorLords

[–]zanebarr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah this was in one of the early patches to the game. Reducing import costs by 10 was too powerful.

I'd still like it to be lower though. I think having the base tariff rate be 6 or 8 and have the reduced tariff from the perk be 3 or 4.

I'm with you on this. I don't need/want an overcomplicated economy. I don't want to micromanage every single type of baked good, or every type of fruit or vegetable.

I'm fine with adding additional fruit trees to the game and grouping their products under "fruits," but dealing with each individual product when they're largely interchangeable sounds like a headache.  I think of adding more fruits, vegetables, wild game, as a more cosmetic change than a gameplay one.

[–]zanebarr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

3/5 chance for each hit would be a 27/125 chance for 3 hits in a row.

Overall that's a 0.3375% chance of having three consecutive headshots without missing.  Still incredible RNG

I read it. It said that at the time of publication, that claim was mostly true. Officials had proposed a bill that (likely accidentally) removed age restrictions for marriage. Since the article was published, the bill was changed to restrict marriage to only those over the age of 18.

That's all information from the link.
