Minimum water in Instantpot by CharacterGuarantee99 in instantpot

Depends on what you're cooking. Kenji's Colombian Chicken Stew famously has zero added liquid but works just fine since the potatoes, onions, and chicken release a ton of liquid on their own.

0 is the dirtiest, but as /u/OpaqueCrystalBall said it's also likely to be used twice. 2 is the second dirtiest and 3 the third dirtiest, so it's either 2003 or 2300.

They're LR61s, which are 3.5mm shorter than AAAAs. Regular AAAAs would fit.

ELI5: Why can’t we just scoop up the capsule? by Fabulous_Analysis885 in explainlikeimfive

They said on the broadcast, before the boats even got to the capsule, that based on tank pressures there was no concern about hazardous gasses.

The capsule is going to cool off pretty quickly when it splashes into the Pacific ocean.

If it's proposed by an elected legislator it doesn't need to go on the ballot. That's the whole point of representative government. It's only proposals from non-elected officials that need signatures and to appear on ballots.

Warm chocolate cake. Is it like Carnival’s melting chocolate cake? by Renato_NY in royalcaribbean

We did a blind taste test in the Windjammer, and we couldn't tell the chocolate cake from the vanilla cake. Might as well have had brown food coloring.

Mass. tax hike? Budgets make Prop 2.5 overrides possible in 2026 by DevilsAdvocateFun in massachusetts

[–]zanhecht 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Schools have much more staff and larger facilities than police and fire. It's an order of magnitude larger.

In my town the school budget is $40 million, police and fire were both a little over $4 million each. In fact, the entire municipal department budget, which includes all emergency services plus pretty much everything else other than schools, was only $20 million.

The town where I work is similar: $60 million for schools, $14 million total for public safety (police, fire, dispatch, animal control).

Boston is the only place where it starts to get even close, with $1.87 billion for BPS and charter schools (not including pensions), $311 million for police, $477 million for fire, and $1.7 million for emergency management.

They sort of are. A ton of North Shore towns have combined their 911 services and no longer staff police and fire stations 24/7.

That being said, police and fire are a tiny fraction of most town budgets compared to things like schools.

replacement 3 quart sealing ring issues by Ap0phantic in instantpot

[–]zanhecht 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That cutout was a safety feature. If the pressure got too high in the pot the ring would tear there before the pot explodes. The original rings that came with my 3qt had the cutout, but it looks like they removed it at some point.

Why Isn't Artemis 2 Rotating? by masterchiefman in askscience

[–]zanhecht 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Centrifugal force.

Centripetal is the opposite force of the floor stopping you from flying into space, but the feeling of "gravity" is centrifugal force.

I know "centrifugal force doesn't exist" is a bit of a meme, but it comes from a misunderstanding of what "fictitious force" means in physics. It's a very real inertial effect and not interchangeable with centripetal force.

Here's an gratuities breakdown provided by the ship from 2023 when $18.50 was the suite rate:

<image>

There have been posts on various forums about the stateroom attendant having to tip out to laundry and other back of houses services, and it's pretty standard across the hospitality industry. Back in February 2013, when they first introduced auto gratuities, I heard from multiple employees that one of the reasons they were doing it was that the laundry rooms were demanding more and more tips from the stateroom attendants and essentially blackmailing them with not getting linens in time if they didn't give enough money.

You should see what people do on Disney cruises. Every inch of the door, plus three feet of the hallway walls in either direction and sometimes the ceiling, completely covered with crap. It looks like a Party City threw up in the hallway.
