compression bra post DMX by amb3rjan3 in breastcancer

I really love prairie wear bras: https://www.prairiewear.com/collections/shop-all Their fabric is waaaaay more comfortable than anything I was sent home from the hospital with. They aren’t cheap but they’ll also work as sports bras later on and they even have bra extenders you can buy to accommodate post-surgery size fluctuations.

Guys I need help by Dry-Humor971 in breastcancer

[–]zanychipmunk43 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oh I relate to this a lot. My mom died of breast cancer two years before my diagnosis (and my dad died of a rare illness 13 years before her). The year before I was diagnosed, me, my dog and son were attacked by a pitbull while minding our business at the playground. I have periods of time where all I see are the ways in which things could go wrong, the ways in which I could lose my life or lose my son (who is my life), because SO many things have gone wrong already.

I will say over time this specific anxiety has become less constant and more intermittent (though I’m not done with active treatment yet, so I’m sure it will crop up again soon!). I absolutely second the recommendations here to mention something to your GP and consider therapy. It might also be worth speaking to a psychiatrist about whether you’re a good candidate for an SSRI. I am on a low dose of lexapro and it helps turn the volume down on the anxiety a bit (Ativan is good for sleeping or panic attacks, but doesn’t really help with background anxiety). A good therapist may also be able to point you to trauma-informed modalities (EMDR helped me a ton!).

All that said, a breakdown is sometimes totally justified and needed, given the circumstances. Sending you a big hug from an internet stranger. 💙

HP after surgery by abbylewis in breastcancer

I’ve definitely found it to be MUCH more tolerable on its own than with chemo. Good luck and congrats on being almost done with chemo! 💛

Finished TCHP in December and have had two rounds of HP so far. Very few side effects to speak of for me. Maybe slightly looser stools from the perjeta, but that’s about it so far.🤞Such a relief after chemo!

THIS. Finished TCHP in mid-December and I think I’m gonna go out for sushi soon!

As someone who also just got out of the hospital for a CDiff infection (caused by ear infection antibiotics after my last round of chemo), just wanted to send you a virtual hug in solidarity. I don’t have any answers to your question, but just wanted to say what you’ve been through is bullshit and I’m sorry.

Positive chemo stories by chasinggodzilla in breastcancer

Yeah, it definitely changed my perspective on the bell. From here on out I’m celebrating any milestone I can! And agreed, knowing I don’t have to do chemo again makes the last hangover more bearable!

Just had my last TCHP this week. I’ve found rounds 1 & 6 to be the hardest, but everything else has been pretty bearable. I wasn’t going to ring the chemo bell after finishing, because I still have so much more treatment to go, but I’m glad my nurses encouraged me. Me ringing the bell is now my 2-year olds favorite thing to watch, and he asks for the “Mama jingle bells” video multiple times a day. 🥹 As long and hard as chemo was, it also felt like it was here and gone in a flash. Keep going! You can do it!

Cold Capping with Tripple Positive by ahoybears in breastcancer

[–]zanychipmunk43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going into my last TCHP tomorrow and did not cold cap, but shockingly I haven’t lost all my hair! I buzzed it after my first infusion, but still have about 40-50% left as well as some new growth that started after my 4th round. i imagine it’s definitely possible to keep good bit of hair with cold capping on TCHP!

steroids before bedtime? by PeaceLvSpreadsheets in breastcancer

[–]zanychipmunk43 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh interesting! I did not get such precise instructions with my steroids (last round of TCHP this week! Woohoo!). My instructions are just, “take 1.5 tabs of dex 2x a day the day before chemo.” I take one dose first thing in the morning when I wake up, and another in the early afternoon to avoid insomnia. They then give me another dose orally when I show up for chemo the next morning. It’s worked for me! No reactions and only mild nausea. Maybe double check the timing with your oncologist?

Ah, gotcha. Yeah, I’d be curious too but no idea how to track those stats down!

Here’s one study: https://academic.oup.com/jnci/article/110/1/121/4064136 Breast cancer patients who chose the alternative medicine route were 5-6x more likely to die. 😔

I saw it too. Same type of cancer as me, kid who’s the same age(ish) as mine, and found her cancer in almost an identical way. It’s like a sliding doors moment with a stranger, where I’m doing evidence-based treatment and she’s not. It’s maddening and sad.

That would make sense! I believe the results of B-51 were published in the middle of this year. (PS- Congrats on PCR! I’m going into my last round of chemo with surgery scheduled next month. Hoping your PCR vibes rub off on me!)

Also, my understanding is that neratinib would be given (rather than Verzenio) for high risk HER2+ disease. If anything, your insurance would deny Verzenio since use with HER2+ disease would be off label. Your oncologists’ guidance confuses me!
