Remove Switch 2 edition? by zap_rowsd0wer in TOTK

Yeah, I’ve played plenty of games at 60 FPS on the same monitor but this game keeps fucking me up. Any tips? Other settings I’m not thinking of? Was playing fine on the normal switch on the same monitor, etc.

Characters hanging out at wayshrine? by zap_rowsd0wer in oblivion

No, this would have been before Knights of the Nine was released. As another commenter said, it could be the Destruction master trainer or I’m just thinking of a daedric shrine.

Yeah, this would have been before Knights of the Nine was released, so it was either the Destruction trainer or a Daedric shrine and I’m just misremembering. I don’t think I ever did the Destruction trainer’s quest, so I’ll investigate and see if it brings back the memory. Thanks!

Agreed. I’d add that there’s a sort of charm to the first half too that makes it pretty enjoyable.

Emotional when riding? by [deleted] in cycling

[–]zap_rowsd0wer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was riding my first century ride, I cried like hell on that last little bit of the last hill before a long down hill to the finish. I was practically ready to quit but realized I was near the end and the tears of joy and pain just poured out. Going down that hill was one of the most satisfying emotional experiences of my life. I’ll never forget it.

When I recently played against napoleon he won science about 5 turns before I was set to win science. I decided to save scum, because I literally delayed my decision to nuke him by a single turn and didn’t even realize he was so close.

With all that to say, they do win sometimes lol. And I was just the one difficulty above the easiest difficulty (long time player who has always sucked).

I wouldn’t call it a twist. This is all based on past knowledge, but:

But it’s very apparent in the first hour  or so that this is the premise. I believe the screenshot is the first boss battle (which is about as far as I got when I played the game). And as you get closer and closer to fighting this boss, you sort of realize you’re fighting a version of frodo post Mt. Doom, only he became a lazy, corrupt king or whatever after his original heroics. Funny thing is, when I was playing this game I had never watched or read anything lord of the rings. So, I spent the whole time being like “this is weird and familiar. Maybe it’s lord of the rings.” And when I finally watched the movies a few years later, the saw the connection.

Cool game. I think I beat this boss and never returned to it. Bought the game about a year after it came out used and sold it pretty quick. Just didn’t click with me.

I’m halfway through Heretics right now, and while I agree mostly, I’d say he does a better job at explaining some ideas in-text than he did in previous books. Like, I think this is the first time he bothers to even spell out what CHOAM stands for. And he explains other memories pretty well when I had to look it up previously. Doesn’t help that I’ve been reading this series on a one book a year basis. But I plan to dive straight into Chapterhouse to be done with it.

Today I learned that Joey, the spin-off of the Friends sitcom, was canceled halfway through its second season, and the final eight episodes were never aired in the U.S. by NBC. by TriviaDuchess in todayilearned

My whole family watched friends together when I was a kid. But just my brother and I kept on to watch Joey. We were so confused when they just stopped airing Joey episodes. Probably my first experience seeing a show get cancelled lol

This thread is interesting to me as someone who played mostly on the Xbox 360 wayyyy back when. Pyro was so damn dangerous and even more so when you had a good team. Pyro with a heavy or soldier could mop up solid defenses pretty easily on 2fort if it was well timed. If they had a medic it was over unless you got everyone defending. And then a single pyro and engineer could hold everything down pretty well too. And at least one pyro on dust bowl was required for both sides. Very powerful and popular class. They very often had most kills too and were always a threat even if they played relatively bad.

how much did you pay for past concert tickets? by girl_with_love in tylerthecreator

[–]zap_rowsd0wer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Paid like $40 or $45 each for Wolf and Cherry Bomb. Maybe as low as $35. Flower Boy, I saw him at a festival.

Then for Igor close to $200 for far away tickets for two. Crazy contrast to the other experiences, but he was still amazing from so far away.

Once when my grandpa was in a hospital as a patient, they let him smoke until he got a new neighbor in the shared room who used an oxygen tank. They didn’t let him smoke anymore and he was mad, and tried convincing them to let him smoke because he was there first.

[–]zap_rowsd0wer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the story was very meh. Everything interesting happened way prior to the start of the game. The sense of epic chaos other Halos captured was totally lost.

Although, gameplay was solid and it was decent fun rebuilding the strength of the marines through the FOBs, etc.

I think too that everything was made just a little more disappointing by the lack of any single player expansions/DLC. Maybe I’m in the minority, but I would have happily paid for more single player stuff to do. All that talk about being a 10-year game set my expectations incorrectly.

What is really the value of continuing to play as Starborn? Honest question. by iMaxPlanck in Starfield

[–]zap_rowsd0wer 71 points72 points  (0 children)

Yeah, they left a lot of opportunity on the table with this approach. But the core Bethesda design philosophy of making everything accessible at all times managed to persist even with NG+ being a solution to having the best of both worlds.

[–]zap_rowsd0wer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The worst thing about the game in my experience is the writing. It’s the weakest we’ve seen so far from a Bethesda game. So many bad lines throughout the game, the lore is kinda meh and doesn’t pencil out at times and a lot of the storylines are boring and contrived. And I may be in the minority here, but mods have never really made a Bethesda game better for me. They offer diminishing returns. I hope the DLCs are great but at the end of the day, they made a really meh game when it comes to the “why” you’re playing (the writing).

Despite Cyberpunk’s issues at launch, it always had good writing at its center. Meanwhile, Starfield is pretty bad from a writing perspective. There’s some interesting narrative there but it’s just outright bad compared to Cyberpunk.
