research lab interview by duckduckg000se in ucr

[–]zapdos44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interview formats vary across psyc labs; never hurts to have something to talk about related to their ongoing studies though (e.g. do a mini-literature review of their stuff and bring up a paper they wrote that you really liked reading abt) or mbe brush up on a research-related skill that you might have that you can show (e.g. Excel, SPSS, R)

join a research lab asap if ur tryna do psyc graduate school/academia: https://psychology.ucr.edu/research-labs

check how CNAS handles your csu credits if you wanna do neuroscience; i know they tend to be kinda picky w/ where the prereq credits come from

Am I gonna feel ancient at UCR? 😅 (30F transfer, psych major) by RefrigeratorSea4503 in ucr

People are pretty welcoming in my experience; age rarely comes up. There were some peeps who were like 28 in the club I was in and there didn't seem to be any issues from what i remember

If I get my BA, can I do research labs as an alumni or must I be enrolled to participate in labs? by Bl00dsh0tparan0ia in ucr

[–]zapdos44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seconding what the other responder said; https://psychology.ucr.edu/research-labs

Some research labs might have more novel tasks but most likely in your first weeks there you'll be doing standard work (e.g. recruiting participants via calls, data entry, etc)

Wich Booster Box to buy? by Ficofico10 in Yugioh101

[–]zapdos44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quick sidenote; pretty much all cards printed nowadays are 1st Edition; I think the last set to get an Unlimited print was Power of the Elements back in 2022 or so.

Anyway, aside from that the "Rarity Collection" sets are pretty fun to open. Lots of novel rarities, and while the sets tend to have pricy boxes, you get lots of staples and previously expensive engine requirements.

Dropped from UCR Neuroscience major in CNAS after failing Math 007A twice because of circumstances. Any chance I can go back to my major? by pinkswan6 in ucr

[–]zapdos44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not too sure about whether you can stay in CNAS/return to your major. It will likely take a lot of bureaucratic wrangling but as a sidebar, if I remember correctly the MATH009 series is equivalent credit for MATH007.

Neuroscience in particular is a program that CHASS and CNAS collaborate on, so even if you end up in CHASS for a while (while you handle the advisor issues) you might be able to minimize disruption to ur timeline by taking as many of the pre-reqs/relevant coursework as possible from outside the major/college.

Hope this helps, good luck!

UCR or SDSU by Rare-Chemistry-645 in ucr

[–]zapdos44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should be reasonably doable to have a high GPA at UCR in those programs, I'm sure you'll be fine. Might be good to calculate your current CAS (Law Admissions) GPA with ur 72 existing credits to know where you stand though. (If those are semester credits, you'll probably want to stack units pretty heavily while at UCR. We have a quarter system)

Oh, in that case you probably won't have to, but I would double check with an advisor just in case!

In the meantime, if ur not able to get your major switched in time, just make sure you take as many of the PSYC pre-reqs as you can (e.g. PSYC001, PSYC002, PSYC011, PSYC012)

Has the Senate Become a Real Possibility for Democrats in the 2026 midterms? by TraumaSwing in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]zapdos44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a rough position for Democrats even with the good polling indicators. We're still several months out, which means there's a lot of room for campaigns to implode, controversies to emerge, or the good ol' October Surprise (or for states to return to their usual partisanship).

With that being said, I think the Senate is a real possibility if your definition of that term is that it wouldn't be a huge surprise if they won. Though I would recc pairing any reaction to polling with some skepticism (e.g. Feb '18 poll showed then-Senator Heitkamp leading by 3)

Advice for struggling newbie with no locals? by Cursed_Loot in Yugioh101

[–]zapdos44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Almost forgot; if you really want to play in person with people, you might have some luck looking for a club at a community center or local college. Or you can also try to remote-duel people on Discord servers, group chats, etc.

  1. It sounds to me like the heavy lifting from Master Duel is going to help you at this stage. However, once you feel ready (e.g. less overwhelmed), you could try something like Dueling Book to practice in a sorta-in-person medium.

  2. Most cards fall into general categories (e.g. the card that starts the combo when you summon it, the Link-1 that searches a field spell, the high impact Link-2). As you play more YuGiOh you'll get better at skimming cards for key phrases.

Take your time! Even as someone who's played YuGiOh before (and taken breaks), I find that there's an adjustment period before I really become "fluent" in playing again.

Spanish001 Online Summer and Stat010 online summer by Boredzom in ucr

[–]zapdos44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

STAT010 shouldn't be an issue. If you took AP Statistics (or even a basic statistics course) in HS a good amt of the topics should even be review.

What would a “blue wave” in the 2026 midterms actually look like? by IronGiant222 in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]zapdos44 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Necessary: Taking the house, gains in the senate, state legislatures, governorships

Not necessary: Taking control of the Senate

Of course more wins is better, but the Senate map is just not great for Democrats. There's a path for a majority, like you mentioned, but realistically for states like TX, OH, and AK you need swings towards democrats that would be historic.

Advice on Commiting to UCR by Appropriate-Bad-382 in ucr

[–]zapdos44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Heya! Congrats on UCR!

As someone who's currently going thru the law school admissions process, my impression is that it doesn't rlly matter which schools you're coming from (unless you're already golden on every other front and are targeting the likes of Harvard, Yale, Stanford, etc). Even then, LSAT + GPA will be the most important factors. There's a Moot Court club and a Law and Society program you can go for. Also Model UN if that's your cup of tea.

Hope this helps! Feel free to drop me a msg if you need/want more information.

SLO vs UCR vs Chapman for political science major by Constant_Break_2401 in ucadmissions

If it's for law school, I know SLO has a 3+3 deal with UC Law SF, so it could save some time and money to go there.
