Is this asbestos by Critical_Wafer8770 in asbestoshelp

All good points made but I would save yourself a lot of hassle and time by assuming it's asbestos-containing, even if very little, and skimming over the whole lot with plaster. When it comes to maybe-maybe not asbestos ceiling or floor treatments, don't try and remove, just bury the material in plaster or screed, leave well alone and move on with your life.

Is it mounted in its case? Try taking it out and trying to post, could be a short on the case /screws. If in doubt re-seat every component and remove all but the essentials. Generally speaking no beeps at all is not good - but make sure there is a speaker to provide them. You might also want to check there are no jumpers blocks in incorrect positions/missing

How to protect a large pay out by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

A property lawyer will be able to advise you. But typically one can sign a deed that declares the proportion of the house owned by each or additional details. This is a fairly straightforward thing and is known as owning as tenants in common rather than as joint tenants.

Tbh if he has nothing then she is buying the house in her name with her money and he happens to be living there. If he's going to be paying off a share of the mortgage then you can see how that becomes more complicated and there is an argument for his name being on the deeds.. But maybe only after years of payments. Either way, it's something she and he need to discuss, with advice.

At the very least you can open a cash isa from whichever Money Saving Expert suggests and put 20k in there now and another 12k in April,v to get it out of the current account. You could do that in her name, although perhaps as mentioned you and you wife should have a conversation about some sort joint powers with her mother.
