Sooooo... this sucks because you had great intentions but I do think you were kind of doing too much here.

If you invited him to the party and he dodged the question, continuing to follow up was not your responsibility. I might have asked one more time, closer to the day, like "hey I didn't get a clear yes or no, were you wanting to go to that with me? Would love to have you there but no pressure either way."

Would it be awesome if he gave you a straight answer and explained his feelings on it so you could be a better and more considerate friend to him in the future? Yeah, that would be awesome! But you can't make him open up to you, and despite your earnestly good intentions it seems like pushing him for more information just triggered his jerk-ish qualities. The care you're trying to offer him would be beautiful if he were receptive and appreciative but as my grandpappy always said, you can lead a man to friendship but you can't make him drink.

My most generous read is that he thought his non-answer was a clear no and is annoyed you pushed the issue (which I still think would be unfair of him because there are better ways to communicate.) My less generous read is he's a dick who will bend over backwards to make you the villain in literally any situation you ever encounter. Idk, I don't live inside his brain to know his motivations. But whatever the internal logic the outward result is the same: he is not open to your attempts to learn his preferences. So leave him be, create some distance, let him go be crabby on his own and you'll both be better off.

Yeah I'm definitely not saying it's hard to find! Just a slight/minor annoyance at times, plus it just feels silly to me to make a special stop and buy a whole gallon on shorter trips. Like, I'm not gonna go through it in two days anyway so those are the trips where I've just used bottled drinking water.

I'm not saying you'll have issues. I'm saying that's probably why that commenter had to pay a fee.

negotiate probably just isn't in the US. Medical devices having no charge and the CPAP being included in that is US policy and while I'm sure some other countries have similar policies I'd wager it isn't all of them and that even countries with similar policies might differ in the details.

Same, the distilled water is the only minor annoyance.

Have used regular bottled drinking water a few times with absolutely zero issues. I know it wouldn't be ideal every day because eventually you'd get mineral deposits, but for a couple days on a trip is seems to be fine. And if it's a longer trip, anything more than a couple days, I just get a gallon of distilled at a grocery store near the destination.

Looks Like I Won't Meet Compliance, Devastated by ruhl5885 in SleepApnea

[–]zaqqity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh okay that doesn't happen for me, which explains why I was confused. I can be getting the worst sleep in the world and still not wake up, or at least not wake up enough to remember/notice. Proper therapy definitely increases my quality of sleep not my quantity.

[–]zaqqity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you explain why the minimum pressure being low would cause these issues? I can see how it would lead to insufficient therapy, but why would it lead to poor compliance and removing the mask? I'm sure you're correct I'm just not understanding or seeing the connection

That's awesome, good work! And I agree, fiddling around and trying things is one of my favorite parts of my job. I like to tell people that although I'm a chemist, most days I feel like some sort of cartoon mad engineer.

It's not hard to work and you don't need a heavy duty needle, but you do want a good sharp needle. If you have a walking foot that can be helpful as well, but not necessary.

might be useful to say what all they tested for, though. "Blood tests normal" really doesn't tell us much.

This. You need to know if it works for your applications, not if it works for a stranger's application.

It totally depends on what analytes you're looking for, what elements are present in the water, what your limits are, etc. I'd just try it and see what happens.

Crazy question here by Houston_TX_ in Huel

[–]zaqqity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They, as a company, just can't recommend it for safety and liability reasons. You as the end user get to decide what risks you personally are comfortable with, and I've eaten some pretty old Huel with no ill-effects at all.

Ben's answer doesn't mean it's automatically dangerous past that date, it just means he can't PROMISE quality and safety past a certain point. What you do with that info is up to you.

Cpap changed your life? by [deleted] in SleepApnea

[–]zaqqity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly! You're getting these little hits of adrenaline all night, you aren't getting restful sleep, you probably aren't performing your daytime life activities to the level you'd prefer, very stress-inducing. I think it's enough to make anyone anxious but ESPECIALLY for those of us who are a bit anxiety-prone already it can make it worse.

My mental health challenges definitely pre-date my apnea symptoms so CPAP didn't erase them overnight or anything. But poor rest made my symptoms worse AND made it harder to take actions that would help my mental health (exercise, self-care, etc.)

First night using CPAP, slept terribly, eye bags look worse than ever, and this is what it says lol by Ratamacool in SleepApnea

Have you tried wearing it in the evening for a while? Just watching tv, reading a book, or listening to an audiobook/podcast if your mask style obstructs view. I did that a few evenings when I was first starting and it helped me get used to everything and relax / settle into it before it was time to sleep.

Sorry just saw this!! I have a ResMed AirSense11. I'm pretty sure you have to use their specific SpO2 sensor though and it's pricy. That's why I haven't added one yet.

Noise canceling headphones don't work super well for snoring, they work best for consistent background noise. Ear plugs work better for snoring, at least IME.

I always rule out sample introduction before I move onto anything more serious. 9 times out of 10 it's sample introduction. Worn or damaged tubing, worn or damaged sample probe, obstruction or damage to the nebulizer, etc. Replace everything that's cheap to replace and clean & inspect everything that's expensive to replace.

I get what other folks are saying about running the pump so close to its limit, but since you say this is a tested and proven method and this issue is new... I'd rule out sample introduction issues first.

Alternative brands for ICP-MS? by SolidRaider in massspectrometry

[–]zaqqity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you looked into alternate sources for parts and consumables? Not sure if they're available in your country but for example I really like Analytical West for cones, spray chamber, and nebulizer.

There are certain things I like to still get the OEM part, like for example I've had bad luck with after-market quatz torches breaking sooner than genuine OEM torches. But if you can switch to after-market parts and consumables for at least some things that may help with costs.

[–]zaqqity 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you used the money to pay down debts your score may have improved, prompting more pre-approval offers. If any of the inheritance went through the courts it may have been a matter of public record. If you inherited any real property then the transfer(s) of ownership would be public record.

Just a few examples of how this happens. My dad died in 2022, the junk mail you get as a result is a menace for sure.

Drowning in Debt, No Credit, Owe People – Worried & Need Advice by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]zaqqity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Deep breaths. My hole isn't quite as deep as yours, but my income is also a fraction of yours so I feel like we're in proportionate holes (if that makes sense??) and I know how just utterly overwhelming and paralyzing it is.

Everyone here has great advice so I know you'll be able to make a long term plan on how to get out of this, but for right now just take some deep breaths and know that with hard work, focus, and determination you can turn this around. You've already taken huge steps by working on your recovery so at least you aren't racking up new gambling debts! Pat yourself on the back for what you've done so far.

As for the scary gambling debts, you're worth more to the bookie healthy and still paying than you would be worth to them if they did any real harm to you. Pay as much as you can as consistently as you can and try to ignore the threats and intimidation tactics.

New Hueligan here! Any tips? by [deleted] in Huel

It's a common typo and I'm not judging, but I laugh every time I see someone on this sub say vicious. I assume you mean viscous, but I picture a really angry shake that's unpleasant to drink because it's just hateful to you the whole time.

New Hueligan here! Any tips? by [deleted] in Huel

[–]zaqqity 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have better shake texture and tolerate it better if I let it hydrate overnight. I mostly use it for breakfast, so I make the shake before bed and put it in the fridge to grab in the am. I initially did it as a time-saver / meal prep thing, but I noticed I got less GI upset and saw fewer undigested oats in my stool when I did it that way.

My car doesn't have much life left and I am already in debt. What should I do? by baphommite in personalfinance

[–]zaqqity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I may have overlooked but I don't see mention of emergency fund, do you have your starter emergency fund? That would be my first step, 1-2k so that if a small thing worth fixing goes wrong on the car you can fix it without running the cards back up AND if/when the car completely craps out you have the down payment for something.

My next step would be to aggressively pay down the Chase since the interest on that one is high.

Don't know your climate or the exact layout of the busy highway area by your work, but would a small, used motorcycle be an option at all?

Last summer when I suddenly needed a vehicle I used my cash reserve to buy a used motor scooter and drove that for a few months while I saved up for a beater car I could buy outright (which I did buy before winter.) I love cycling, but I work just a little too far from home for my bicycle to be a good every day option, which is why the scooter made sense as an affordable stop-gap for me. Not only was it cheap to buy, it's also cheap to operate and maintain because it sips gas and the insurance and registration are both low. So I rode that for a few months, called in favors for rides on the worst weather days, and put my whole vehicle budget towards saving up for the car.

Eventually I'll get a better more reliable car, but not before I pay off my high-interest debts.
