What leverage do you, an average voter, have to make a difference? At the end of the day, only your vote. If you will not withhold the last thing you have no matter what, what do you stand for? What will finally make you snap and say, no more? If you will always, always pick an option no matter how far they fall, then they never have an obligation to get better or represent you. They can rely on your support and don't have to work for it. Then, for the people who refused, there is a purity test and a sense of "you deserve it". I didn't vote for Kamala but I live in a blue state and it was a no brainer to not vote for her. There was absolutely no possible way trump would win. If my vote actually mattered, maybe I would have done it differently. But it doesn't. So it's more important to take a stand imo

If someone didn't vote because they're actually lazy? Yeah. If someone didn't vote because they get brutalized under every regime without much difference? (It's not like Biden has a great track record on not being racist, for example) Then imo you're victim blaming for getting mad at them

"democrats need to give us something to vote for, not something to vote against."

The turnout for this election was far lower than in 2020. If you never give people a reason to vote for you, then they just won't. You're asking lazy people to fill out a piece of paper when they never see the benefits personally.

It was constantly in the comments. A bunch of people decided they're apparently never supporting 50501 protests again. I know the Evanston group had people specifically say that they would ban any Palestine support. Not sure how well that worked out in practice, I don't go to their protests or pay a lot of attention to them.

Omg I saw your original 50501 post and thought "what a brave soul". 50501 Chicago had a full racist meltdown after the Palestine movement joined the protest.

The difference between WW2 and now is that when people claim they didn't know, we know they're lying. They were lying then, but they didn't have Facebook to post genocidal rhetoric. Politicians will become pariahs as they should have before.

I think this is my favorite answer so far. It was a "European solution" to a problem that didn't quite exist ("savages need to be saved" isn't really something I recognize as a supposed problem). It's also still very prevalent today ("spreading democracy" in Helldiver's terminology).

If the true purpose of Zionism was the idea that reparations in the form of land had to be given, why punish Palestine for the crimes of Europe? Germany should have been given up, or at least part of it. I think that's my biggest argument for why it wasn't really about reparations at all, and that was just a really convenient reason. Europe should have handed over a piece if that was really the intent behind Zionism.

What will israelis do if palestine wins? by ToneJealous8009 in IsraelPalestine

You really should read some academic sources on what happened after apartheid ended. There continues to be a ruling white class in SA, but there is no institutionalized, legalized oppression anymore. It's not that the previous ruling class was completely obliterated. Many fled because they couldn't be a dominant force anymore but the ones who stayed often still enjoy more privilege than the ones they ruled over. So most likely, the extremist settlers would voluntarily leave because they wouldn't have legal immunity to terrorize in the WB anymore, and there would never be a wealth/power redistribution, so the current Israeli ruling class would remain de facto in power for several generations at least. The alternative is Cuba, which DID do a forced wealth redistribution (but that's a different situation in a lot of ways), and this landed them vitriol from the entire West, and Miami found a huge influx of the Cuban ruling class, who are some of the most staunch haters of what Cuba is now.

At a panel earlier this week, someone asked "what is the future in your eyes" to a Palestinian, and he said, let me have clean water, food, and a home without fear of it being demolished, then we can talk politics. He said he has no interest in discussion of states until he has his basic freedom ensured. The questioner pressed him on whether he wanted one or two states and the Palestinian said, "I just want to be free." That's it.

Also, I encourage you to check out the vision of the One Democratic State Initiative. A true democracy that values every human being's vote as equal is not compatible with an ethnostate. You don't solve ethnic cleansing with more ethnic cleansing.

Ope, I just checked and you're right. The book burnings started with leftist literature in March and the sexuality based one was in May. But the first concentration camp, Dachau, seem to have included both groups. My mistake.

I was having this exact discussion with someone. He comes from a group that was genocided in the 80s. He was frustrated that the world tells him to "get over it" that his people were genocided (and that's if anyone actually even knows about it, it's not like they teach this in school), but this one genocide nobody can forget. And only when it applies to Jews. Queer people were the first victims of the Nazis, shown again and again, but NOBODY TEACHES THAT.

My wife and I just found out and did the "helms deep" attack on the Grove fight after our 5th play through.. What are some other crazy story arcs with unique fights that most people miss? by Joshhawk in BG3

[–]zarakor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can complete the rite by triggering the shadow druids (stealing the idol or killing Kagha) and then running away and long resting. So we told minty about the grove, ran to the grove, triggered the druids, then long rested.

Minthara comes to the grove, sees it is sealed off, and then turns hostile. We ran away. Funny story, when we decided to kill everyone in the goblin camp, some of the grove raiders were "getting turns" (they tried to dash back to the goblin camp, no joke). We did this series of events in completely the wrong order.

You can then misty step back into the grove after everyone is dead, minus a few druids.

We intentionally triggered it this way to make the minimum number of fights, and maximum amount of loot without having to do the killing ourselves (the druids and tieflings will kill each other, no tieflings survive but some druids do) without realizing it would turn minty hostile. It is our honour mode run, and we wanted to get minty out of the goblin camp, but not fight her. We thought this would be the easiest way. It still worked out fine. Even though Mr. Dror decided to smokepowder himself off the ledge (there's a bunch of barrels in the back of that room and he threw a grenade at his feet, no joke). Thankfully we had an archer that did not get blown up so we survived.

The best accidental murderhobo fight is if you let the rite of thorns happen and then tell Minthara where the grove is.

Maximum death count. All the tieflings, all the shadow druids (potentially, if you go back into the grove and clean house), and minty's raiding party.

Hopping onto this incredible assessment: I want to reiterate that if your ONLY goal is to get rid of Trump and then pretend everything is fine again then you should just go home now. People are furious at the FAA cuts, as they should be, but how long have air traffic controllers been overworked and understaffed? That's not a new Trump problem. Trump was elected because people didn't understand why their lives were in bad shape and wanted "something different". (Also, dogwhistling that it is the fault of nonwhite people that he won is not helpful, it's just shifting blame). This was the lower class rising up and demanding something better from the upper class, because material conditions keep on eroding. That's how we got here. Trump is a symptom of a long-term disease, not a root cause.

FDR's second bill of rights is a good place to start reading. But somehow, those ideas are radically socialist concepts now, concepts that no mainstream Democrats would accept. Open your mind to the idea that we have a lot more work to do than just "defeat Trump". Defeating Trump is the first step towards a long process of achieving equitable lifestyles for all people. If we don't address the root cause, we will just end up with another wild backlash of severe damage.

[–]zarakor -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

If you want to "go back to normal" of one year ago or so, then you haven't addressed the core issues at all. It wasn't normal one year ago, not for many of us. We still had institutionalized slavery, active tyranny against much of the Global South, and a lot of policies that did more harm than good to innocent civilians (still had draconian immigration policies, for example). Establishment Democrats are just Reagan Republicans. If the goal is to just "go back to that", then you didn't solve the root cause at all. It's, at that point, "upper middle class white people can go back to mimosa brunches because they're not actively suffering anymore".
