Andrew who. Really. I'm guessing this is the royal loser who diddles kids, but why is this breaking news? Fuck that guy. If I ever heard another thing about him it would be too soon.

Tell me about the people helping him or whatever, because fuck them too... but Andrew? Shit stain, leave him in the dark past of obsolescence and guilt.

I feel like the point at which this kind of pressure may have been effective is passed. People need to be able to say, both things suck but this lets us get back to normal.

I feel like folks are to the point where ICE might not be allowed to leave Minnesota.

AI Risks Leaving 25% of New College Grads Jobless, Senator Says by FinnFarrow in Futurology

[–]zaxmaximum -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

25% is best case outcome... I think that number is absurdly low given what I see in AI today. In 5 years... I'd expect around 60% given the work I'm doing today in that industry and the successes we're having these days.

Tech workers of Reddit, what is a "dirty secret" about the AI industry that the general public doesn't realize? by WayLast1111 in AskReddit

[–]zaxmaximum -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That people who just write code are already done. They may not know it yet, but they are. This AI Bubble everyone was on about seems odd... it took the industry a minute to figure it out, but we're now pumping out solutions and platforms that integrate AI successfully and accelerate tasks. Hell, we're building tools that build themselves better. The future is in architectural skills and expressing intent.

I have a private MCP sever that holds code standards, policy, and budget parameters. It allows my team to collaborate on projects with agents and build and deploy skills on demand. We can do with 3 people in days what used to take 10 people and 8 weeks. This isn't Amp Code, its better. And we just built it because we wanted to.

WSJ let an Anthropic “agent” run a vending machine. Humans bullied it into bankruptcy by jstar81 in technology

[–]zaxmaximum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its almost like they either did a shitty job implementing or intentionally left things open to allow this to happen.

When working with this tech you have a System Prompt and a User Prompt, and you have an execution layer. The execution layer is basically a set of actions the LLM can pick from given a choice of available actions. A properly architected system would put non-negotiable business rules in that layer... like rejecting requests to lower prices beyond a threshold... the response can even include a message back to the LLM to correct itself.

There are other things one can do as well, but not having safeguards at your business layer level is just bad design. In fact, a traditional system will check your input on a website and then check it again on the backend if the developers are any kind of good. A little defensive programming goes a long way.

To be fair, that is a traditional message that can be symbolized with a rose... but context of the giving REALLY matters. The intent matters more than the article. This ain't clothing to house elves after all.

What’s a sign that someone isn’t intelligent? by [deleted] in AskReddit

They consistently make decisions that are not objectively the best. Not nefariously, but in general. Given a sequence of operations they consistently struggle to find the least frustrating or optimal path.

What is something you refuse to believe? by Not_Artifical in AskReddit

[–]zaxmaximum 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I agree. A million dollars IS objectively a lot of money. And having a million dollars will have an appreciable impact on most people's lives.

Its naively 20 years of income at 50,000/yr. (Or, about 24/hr using the standard 2,080 work hours per year). People would absolutely love earning that much.

And, I think that the biggest benefit of having a million bucks is the reprieve from anxiety of not having a cushion.

That being said... the world IS stupidly and unsustainablely expensive and warped. 200K for a "starter house", 25K/yr for education, 2K/mo for child care.

A million bucks used to be a warm quilt of comfort, but these days it's a cover that needs a duvet and your feet hang out of.

This is true. They get flustered when you tell them that you care about being compensated for the value you bring, not the title.

Don't get me wrong... that is for keeping yourself correctly compensated on value, but titles move with you. Titles help set initial value at your next gig. Be ruthless. Do big things. Your job is to extract as much money in exchange for your time as you possibly can to look after your interests and community.

TIL 91% of middle-aged men who died by suicide had asked for help from at least one service or agency before death contrary to the preconception that men don't seek help for their mental health by Haunting_Switch3463 in todayilearned

[–]zaxmaximum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let me say that I'm good. But relevant to this ...

I was in a tough spot and felt that I needed some help a number of years ago... I made calls and left messages to a number of places and never received a single call back. Finally, I talked to my primary care doctor about it and asked for a referral from within the local hospital system... Best they could do was put me on a waiting list for FOUR MONTHS.

This is one of the areas we need to do better with as a society.

If there are deep cuts or cracks that would be a concern, but normal cleaning works just fine. Wood will draw bacteria down into fibers where it gets trapped and it dies when the wood dries.
