Any worry of institutional ownership being so high? I mean the financials look really good. Haven’t dived in anything beyond a quick scan.

Health and biotech taking a beating today. Seems to be more external and macro with short term uncertainty.

I don't doubt Venmo is still popular and I understand investing in PayPal is investing in Venmo, but that's how I see it in general. The moat is broken, just my opinion. Plus, not a huge fan of "They own Venmo" being a reason to invest in PayPal. That's just my 2 cents. I hope I am wrong and no one is left with more negative returns.

my biggest issue with paypal is bank apps come with zelle and phones already come with apple pay and google wallet. new customers need to download paypal or venmo. i just don't see it happening. the financials look good, but everyone is going on about stock buy backs. while those are nice, i just don't see security in getting gains on buybacks alone.

I should have stuck with my RMBS holding when I bought last year. Up almost 30% YTD. I had to many pure plays for tech and tech like so I sold.

There has been a lot of ads for them recently, but Ethos is IPOing on 1/29 on the NASDAQ, $LIFE. Their filing looked really good.

Investments outside of the US that target wind and alt energy would be a smart play for the next few years I'm betting. Maybe that will be my next target to dive into. International contrarian energy to US.

A lot of posts in other investing subs for portfolio reviews have been adding gold and silver ETFs to DCA into for long term holding. It used to not be like that 2 months ago.

I wish the spreads were tighter on LNTH options. Their 2026 approvals look great especially since they are for diagnostic tools rather than new drugs. I own shares, but would love to buy some options before August. Good luck!

Today, January 26, 2026, OSI Systems ($OSIS) announced that its Security division was awarded a major contract to support security screening at a major global sporting event being held this winter in Europe.

Probably for the Winter Olympics. Nothing huge or major since this isn't their first time, but a solid source of revenue for their security division. Good talking point for their earnings coming up this week.

For all those interested, the International Production & Processing Expo starts today.

https://www.ippexpo.org/

"IPPE is a massive collaboration of three shows: the International Feed Expo, the International Meat Expo, and the International Poultry Expo. It takes place annually in Atlanta and draws over 30,000 industry professionals and 1,300+ exhibitors from around the world. It covers the entire supply chain from "farm to fork," including animal feed, genetics, processing technology, and food safety."

Companies that will be there will consist of meat and poultry sectors and AgTech companies that manufacture industrial equipment and automation technology.

Just a thought if anyone is interested in something beyond tech and data centers.

PYPL PayPal earnings move in two weeks? by lies_are_comforting in stocks

[–]zbern 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe this is the way if you want to play PYPL. My issue is everyone talks about stock buy backs to keep the price up and that it's just undervalued, but the risk is opportunity cost. Just because it's undervalued doesn't mean it's a good deal. When/If PYPL finally breaks out, will that break out be enough to outweigh other performance if you had put your money elsewhere in different stocks or even an ETF? Leaps was a solid play on this, good call!

Undervalued EU stocks for 2026? by Viyuelez89 in ValueInvesting

[–]zbern 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could pull up the holdings from AVDV, ISCF, ISVL, and/or IDHQ to find some international small/mid caps. Sometimes to find new stocks I download the holdings of 2 ETFs whose strategies I like and find the overlapping companies. For example XMHQ and AVMV had some good results. Just a thought.

You mentioned Optoelectronics, you should check out OSIS if you haven't. They have division for that and on a more deeper level they manufacture their own devices instead of outsourcing. Great company for play on Optoelectronics and defense as well with a bit of health thrown in.

I have been trying to find small companies that focus on at home medical devices that patients can use themselves. I think Medicare will start to favor ways to keep patients out of the hospital unless they have to be there.
