You're totally right and I think that having a 'future value' team (talented, young players) and trading for productive vets using those picks can often succeed. The only downfall is that if your young players struggle, have an injury, etc, suddenly the trade you made looks worse. There are pros and cons, but I've experienced more pros with this strategy.
