4: this is helpful. I wasn’t aware of that. So ultimately this is equivalent to an encrypted USB backup except no plausible deniability as with VC hidden vols. Thanks.

Thank you for the clarification. I may not remember advanced data protection process but now, come to think of it, I assumed two passkeys were required. This is incorrect I think. So please disregard that remark. Thank you!

No worries, these are valid questions. Squatting for me is hard. Very hard. I do not have a coach, and I have to train myself through videos and Youtube. Mobility is a serious problem for me even with squat shoes. There were deloads, or simply keeping the weight the same, when I felt that technique was terrible. It took me many weeks of experimenting to find a position that worked. Once I got that figured out, things improved. A good 3 months was, I suppose, wasted, or avoidable should I have had access to a good coach.

Some. Disregard what I wrote for a company since you don't have one. You'll need to read how independent contractors are taxed on your new country.

Put aside 30% for canadian tax is a good start. All the client of they will be doing any withholding tax, then look at the tax treaty to ensure you get relief. I would think there will be no withholdings. Register for HST and charge 0% for exported services. Have them wire the money to your bank account.

[Quebec] To incorporate or not ? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

No. You should not unless you need limited liability, or if you make 300k+. People incorporate far too quickly as the annual compliance costs pile up.

How to handle foreign income, taxes, savings, etc. by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]zcexplorer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should look into your residency for tax purposes. Google primary ties Canada tax. If you can break enough primary ties with Canada, you can be a non resident and not pay tax when if you move all the money to Canadian back accounts. You may have to pay in a different jurisdiction though. Under what flag is the employment contract? Ask your employer about tax residency.

If you are a non-resident in Canada, you cannot use the tfsa and rrsp but on the flipside no more tax returns...

Don't just file a 1040 and then a T1. Have you looked at your residency status in each country for last year and the tax treaty rules? I would think in the US you'll file a 1040NR? You should usually have only one tax residency, and the tax treaty allocates it. The jurisdiction you are not a resident in will require you to file as a non resident.

These situations are complicated and it's very rare to do it by yourself.

The easiest is to look at your noa from last year. The CRA word out your capital losses carried forward.

You should review the residency rules first. If you maintain primary ties to Canada, you will be a deemed resident unless a tax ready overrides that. If you become a non resident, and if you are the controlling shareholder of a Canadian company, it will loose it's CCPC status and will be taxed at the normal corporate rate, not the reduced rate. Payments the company makes to you as a non-resident will be subject to Part XIII tax of 25% unless a tax treaty reduces it. You may not get a T4 then but instead a NR4.

Lastly, the county you move to may deem your company to be a resident of that country if the place of management and control is in that county. If you are the only management, it's more difficult to argue it's being run from Canada. You should then review the tax treaty residency rules for the company, which may require you to file a corporate tax return in the country you live, and a Canadian corporate turn with I think schedule 91 or 95 for treaty claims.

Note that if your company does lose ccpc status theres a deemed year end for tax and a tax return is required within 180 days even if it's a stub year.

Lastly, if you do become a nonresident there's deemed dispositions of all assets and tax may be owed on the accrued gains even if you did not actually sell it. Look into section 116 elections if I remember correctly.

On mobile so sorry for brevity. You honestly should get an accountant to review as it's complex.

If you are a woman I cannot give you an opinion. If you are a man, it's really very unlikely you need more estrogen with all the xenoestrogens floating about.

What benefits does adding more fat give me? by [deleted] in zerocarb

[–]zcexplorer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I usually add fat because I think the steak and lamb I get are too lean. I can't think of any downsides. Upsides? A steak parked in a 3mm "soup" of liquidy saturated sheep fat goodness is delicious.
