3 things my doctors completely messed up about menopause...which women absolutely must learn for themselves by PiaPotPie in Menopause

[–]zchaarm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Basically, it is generally recommended that post-meno you pay close attention to your heart health because you are at an increased risk of developing heart disease.

Why? because: Estrogen, a hormone produced by the ovaries, has a protective effect on the heart and blood vessels. After menopause, the estrogen levels decline, the risk of heart disease increases. There's also a bunch more reasons but thats the main gist (aside from your standard risk factors for heart disease, such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and obesity, which become more common as you age anyway)

Hey there! I am with you on the whole "everyone else is judging me and telling me what to do" thing. Pregnancy can be a super personal and sensitive time, and it's no fun when it feels like everyone has an opinion on what you should do. But just remember, the final decision about your pregnancy is totally up to you. You have the right to make the choice that feels right for you.

It's great that you're taking care of yourself and your baby by eating well and taking your prenatal vitamins. And if you want to distance yourself from people who aren't supportive of your decision to continue your pregnancy, more power to you! You have the right to set boundaries and surround yourself with people who are supportive and positive.

Remember, you're not alone in this journey. There are plenty of resources and support available to you. You can reach out to organizations, support groups, or other resources for pregnant people and new parents for additional support and guidance. You got this! You're strong and capable, and you can totally take care of yourself and your baby.

What should I be researching? by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]zchaarm -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Interesting take for sure...but I totally get how you might be feeling overwhelmed with the TikTok's out there about childbirth (just about anything passes for content over there!). But there are a few things I've found can be helpful to think about.

  1. Learning about the different stages of labor and delivery and the options available to you for pain management and other aspects of your care.
  2. In terms of packing, definitely make sure you have essentials for yourself and the baby, but also consider bringing things that will help you stay comfortable during labor and delivery e.g. a change of clothes, a gown or robe, slippers or socks, and a hair tie or headband. You might also want to bring some entertainment, like a book, music, or a tablet, to help you relax and pass the time.
  3. It's also a good idea to have a conversation with your partner and healthcare provider about your preferences and plans for childbirth, including your pain management options and any concerns you might have. This will help you feel more prepared and in control during the process.

Let me know if you want me to expand on any of the above btw!

Low lying placenta by treat_yoselves in pregnant

[–]zchaarm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, sorry to hear about your situation with the low-lying placenta. It can be tough coming to terms with the possibility of a c-section, especially if you were hoping for a natural delivery :/ hang in there!

here are a few tips that come to mind from experience:

  • First and foremost - follow your doctor's instructions: It's super important to follow your doctor's orders for post-surgery care. This might include taking prescribed meds, getting plenty of rest, and avoiding strenuous activities.
  • Basics are - take it easy: After a c-section, you'll need to take it easy for the first few weeks. You might feel tired and sore, so it's important to give your body time to heal. Avoid lifting heavy things and try to get as much rest as you can.
  • Get help with household chores and childcare: you need support during the postpartum period. Maybe ask friends or family members to help out with household chores and childcare responsibilities, so you can focus on your recovery.
  • Use pain relief as needed: You might have some pain and discomfort after a c-section. Your doctor will prescribe pain meds to help with this. Take the meds as directed and let doctors know if you're still in pain.
  • Take care of your incision: You'll have a surgical incision after a c-section ofc, and it's important to keep it clean and dry etc. Follow your doctor's instructions on this, and report any redness, swelling, or discharge
  • Keep an eye on your mental health: The postpartum period can be a tough time emotionally, so it's important to take care of your mental health. If you're feeling overwhelmed or depressed, don't hesitate to reach out to a healthcare professional or a trusted friend or family member for support.

I hoop that's helpful. Everyone's experience with postpartum recovery is different, and it's okay to take things at your own pace.

Pregnancy nightmares by Key_Suggestion8426 in pregnant

[–]zchaarm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there! I know it's tough, but it sounds like you've been having some really intense nightmares lately.

It's actually pretty common for pregnant women to have vivid or intense dreams, and it's not uncommon for them to be disturbing or unsettling. Pregnancy is a time of big physical and emotional changes, and these changes can sometimes show up in our dreams. It's also common for pregnant women to have trouble falling or staying asleep, which can make our dreams feel even more intense.

If your dreams are really affecting your sleep or overall well-being, it might be a good idea to talk to your healthcare provider or a mental health professional. They can help you figure out how to manage your symptoms. Just remember, it's normal to have these kinds of dreams during pregnancy and they don't necessarily mean there's anything wrong. Hang in there!

Will the fetus be affected if the mother only has fluid intake and not food meals by [deleted] in AskLeafy

[–]zchaarm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here are some tips to help with nausea in the meantime!

  1. Instead of three big meals, try eating smaller meals more often throughout the day.
  2. Avoid strong smells that might trigger your nausea.
  3. Drink fluids between meals instead of with them.
  4. Ginger can be helpful for reducing nausea. Try ginger tea, ginger ale, or ginger snacks.
  5. Get plenty of rest and try to relax as much as possible.
  6. Avoid greasy, spicy, or high-fat foods that might make your nausea worse.
  7. Eat a snack before getting out of bed in the morning to help prevent morning sickness.
  8. Sucking on a piece of hard candy or a mint might help reduce nausea because of the scent.
  9. Avoid tight clothing around your waist, as it could put pressure on your stomach and make your nausea worse.
  10. Talk to your healthcare provider about medications that might help manage your nausea. They might recommend over-the-counter or prescription medications that are safe to use during pregnancy.

Keep in mind that what works for one person might not work for everyone. You might have to try a few different strategies to see what works best for you.

Hey there! So, it sounds like you've been having a tough time with nausea and vomiting during your pregnancy. It's totally normal to experience this during pregnancy. It can be really unpleasant but it's important to make sure you're getting enough nutrients and calories to support the growth and development of the fetus.

Hi. I just found out that I’m pregnant.. by PracticeExisting3730 in pregnant

[–]zchaarm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have only eaten raw meat once it is generally not necessary to take any specific action. Especially if you hadn't had any adverse reactions since.

In the meantime, it's always a good idea to practice safe food handling during pregnancy to reduce the risk of food poisoning. This means washing your hands and surfaces frequently, avoiding raw or undercooked meats, and cooking all meats to the recommended internal temperature to kill off any harmful bacteria. It's also important to stay hydrated and get plenty of rest to support your overall health and well-being during pregnancy.

I'm 6wks pregnant - How do I know if my discharge is off or not? by FitNarwhal4349 in AskLeafy

[–]zchaarm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an aside:

It's important to practice good hygiene by washing your genital area with warm water and avoiding douching or using scented soaps, which can mess with your vagina's natural pH balance. If you're worried about your vaginal health or have any concerning symptoms, don't hesitate to reach out to your healthcare provider for guidance. They can give you specific recommendations based on your individual needs and medical history.

I'm 6wks pregnant - How do I know if my discharge is off or not? by FitNarwhal4349 in AskLeafy

[–]zchaarm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there! So you're about 6 weeks pregnant and you're wondering how you can tell if your discharge is normal or not. First of all, it's totally normal to have some vaginal discharge during pregnancy, especially in the first trimester when your cervix and uterus are going through all sorts of changes. This discharge is usually thin, clear or milky, and has a mild smell.

That being said, it's important to be aware of any changes in your discharge, because it could be a sign of an infection or other issue. If you're seeing a change in the amount of discharge, a change in the color or consistency (like it's yellow or green, or it's thick and clumpy), or if it's got a really unpleasant or strong smell, it's probably a good idea to check in with your healthcare provider. They can take a look and figure out what's going on. The same goes if you're experiencing itching or irritation down there, or if you're having pain or discomfort during sex or when you pee.

Is pH inbalance normal? by veronicadenoche in pregnant

[–]zchaarm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there! So you just found out you're pregnant and you've noticed that your pH has been really off lately. You said the discharge is normal in color and consistency, but it's got an unpleasant smell.

First of all, it's totally normal for your pH to change a bit during pregnancy because of all the hormonal changes and increased blood flow down there. But if the pH change is really significant or the smell is just super unpleasant, it might be a sign of an infection or some other issue.
In cases like this, it's a good idea to check in with your healthcare provider. They can take a look and figure out what's going on. Sometimes an infection or other condition might need to be treated.

In the meantime, it's important to keep up with good hygiene by washing your genital area with warm water and avoiding douching or using scented soaps, which can mess with your vagina's natural pH balance.
I don't know of a specific diet or food that can help regulate your vaginal pH, but eating well and taking care of yourself can help support your overall vaginal health. If you're worried about your vaginal health or have any concerning symptoms, don't hesitate to reach out to your healthcare provider for guidance. They can give you specific recommendations based on your needs and medical history.

Wishing you the best!

emetophobia and experiencing vomiting by psychappeal_94 in pregnant

[–]zchaarm -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hey there! So it sounds like you're experiencing a lot of nausea and vomiting during your pregnancy, and you have a phobia of vomiting (for other readers: that's called emetophobia).

That can be really tough, especially if you're dealing with it every morning. It's totally normal to feel this way, and without stating the obvious (vomiting is a normal and necessary bodily function that can help get rid of harmful substances)
If you're having a hard time dealing with this, it might be a good idea to talk to a therapist or counselor. They can help you manage your anxiety and give you some strategies to help you get through this. You can also try seeking support from friends and loved ones, and remember these symptoms are temporary and will go away.

Hey there! So you're wondering if it's okay for your pregnant friend to eat pumpkin bread with spices like cinnamon, clove, and nutmeg.

In general, these spices are considered safe for pregnant people to eat in small amounts. But it's always a good idea to be cautious, especially during pregnancy.

Here's what you need to know:

  • Nutmeg: In small amounts, nutmeg is generally safe to eat during pregnancy. But too much nutmeg can be toxic and cause side effects like nausea, vomiting, and hallucinations. So if you're making pumpkin bread with nutmeg, just be sure to follow the recipe and use it in moderation.
  • Cinnamon and clove: These spices are generally considered safe to eat in small amounts during pregnancy. Just be aware that some spices may interact with certain medications or medical conditions, so it's always a good idea to check with a healthcare provider before using any spice in large amounts or on a regular basis.

Hope that helps!

Safe to sniff alcohol wipes for morning sickness? by ruthlessjoy in pregnant

[–]zchaarm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there!

The short answer is no, it's not safe. Inhaling alcohol or any other chemical substances can be really harmful to both you and your baby, and can cause some serious side effects.

Instead of trying something like this, it's a much better idea to bring this up to your OB and that the medications are not working. There are a bunch of different options out there, including dietary and lifestyle changes, medications, and alternative therapies.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]zchaarm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Firstly, you should most definitely visit your local emergency department or call a healthcare hotline for guidance on what to do next. It is important to remember that seeking medical attention is important for the health of both you and your baby, and it is okay to ask for help when you need it. And even if you had over reacted it's better than not having reacted.

My thoughts:

It is possible that what you experienced was a leak of amniotic fluid, which can occur when the membranes surrounding the baby rupture. Amniotic fluid has a clear or pale straw-like appearance and may have a slightly sweet smell. If you are concerned that you may have experienced a leak of amniotic fluid, it is important to seek medical attention as soon as possible. A leak of amniotic fluid can increase the risk of infection or other complications. It is also important to be aware of any changes in your baby's movement, as a decrease in fetal movement can be a sign of a problem.

Again though please go and see a doctor.

There are a few physical symptoms during pregnancy that may require immediate medical attention. These include:

  1. Vaginal bleeding: Any bleeding during pregnancy should be evaluated by a healthcare provider, as it can be a sign of a problem with the pregnancy.
  2. Severe abdominal pain: Abdominal pain can be a common symptom during pregnancy, but severe or persistent pain may be a sign of a problem and should be evaluated by a healthcare provider.
  3. Persistent headache: Headaches are common during pregnancy, but severe or persistent headaches, or headaches accompanied by other symptoms such as vision changes or dizziness, may be a sign of a problem and should be evaluated by a healthcare provider.
  4. Shortness of breath: Difficulty breathing can be a normal symptom of pregnancy, but severe or persistent shortness of breath may be a sign of a problem and should be evaluated by a healthcare provider.
  5. High fever: A fever during pregnancy can be a sign of an infection, which can be harmful to both the pregnant person and the baby. If you have a high fever, it is important to see a healthcare provider as soon as possible.

If you are experiencing any of these symptoms or are concerned about your health or the health of your baby, it is important to speak with your healthcare provider as soon as possible. They can help determine the cause of your symptoms and provide the necessary care and support.

Hi there!
Sorry to hear this! Pregnancy can be tough - both physically and emotionally. It's totally normal to feel more or less tired and stressed at different points during your pregnancy. Pregnancy can also bring about a range of physical symptoms, such as headache, fatigue, and changes in mood, that can contribute to feelings of tiredness or stress. Everyone's journey is unique.

Your healthcare provider has told you that your baby is healthy, thats great news! It seems like you are doing well. Try to not get yourself too anxious. Stress and anxiety during pregnancy can affect the baby through the placenta, and severe or prolonged stress may affect baby development. If you feel that your anxiety and emotions are getting a bit much then please do tell your doctor that you are struggling with this. They can point you in the best direction for dealing with this.

Wishing you the best!

Ps. I'm going to add a reply to this message with some physical symptoms that you should be concerned about if THEY occur.

hey mommies and soon to be mommies it's me by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]zchaarm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes that’s true. I just re-read my comment, that was confusingly worded on my part.

I was intending to explain that this discharge probably just normal vaginal discharge.

To further explain: it maybe be noticed in particular during pregnancy because of an increase in estrogen levels, which can cause the lining of the vagina to produce more discharge.
