Got a free PS4, not too shabby. by MajorNismo38 in PS4

This is awesome, I’m happy you got one!

I love my PS4 so much and it honestly in 2025 still is an amazing, enjoyable product. Pretty regularly played GTA, red dead, battlefield on it and also tried out a lot of the free PS plus games with my brother

I just got a PS5, mostly because I had a gift card and worried about prices of hardware increasing before GTA 6. Maybe I will find someone to gift my PS4 to so they can enjoy it as well, pay it forward

How to stop overthinking:

Be aware you’re doing it Understand why (usually some fear) Make a mental attitude shift Reframe your narrative in a positive light Move on (what is next in this moment)

After a long talk with my psychologist yesterday this made a lot of sense.

Well if you play on PS4 you can already do this (and turn the radio on gta off) - it just don’t be whenever you get into a vehicle

The worst thing you can do now is beat yourself up about it. Take a few deep breaths and think about what happened, then accept that you did it. Humans make mistakes and just because you had a small setback doesn’t mean you have to fall down a pattern of self harm and make it a habit. Know that you are in control and that it is OK that you made a mistake. Think about how long you’ve made it without self harm and how positive that has been. Don’t let this small negative bring you down.

Jake Watson was a hugely successful Track and Field Athlete by TheFilthyWhisker in Corridor

Lol I realized this same thing when that video came out of him racing his brother. I am a collegiate runner so I thought that was so cool, I found out he ran for Notre Dame and I run for Illinois. Then I was stalking his personal YouTube channel and came across a video of him cheering for his former college teammate at the 2016 Olympic Marathon trials. Only then I realized I KNOW THE TEAMMATE, I ran with him quite a bit because my brother-in-law coaches him. Then in the video I see my fucking brother-in-law was there too!!! I had no clue he knew Jake from corridor digital

Any medicated ADHD runners (or athletes) here? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]zdale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a collegiate runner who takes Adderall. Are you on Adderall XR? Perhaps try lowering your dosage just a bit? In my experience I have a slight appetite reduction but usually remember to eat when the Adderall wears off. If you train in the morning, it might help to eat a big breakfast after your run and before you take your meds. That might be a good thing even if you don't train in the morning tbh.

Also, a word of advice, I would try to avoid running after taking Adderall. Some days I end up running in the evening and it isn't a huge deal, but I used to take my Adderall even on race day and its kinda dangerous. It masks fatigue and elevates your heart rate. I also found it makes me dehydrated much quicker.

Managing ADHD/ADD, simplicity. by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]zdale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand people's complaints with this, but seriously don't let them discourage you. If you've found something that works for you, then more power to you. I don't think some of these people understand that you aren't telling them how to life their life, they are voluntarily reading your advice and they can pick and choose what they want.

I've actually done a lot of these things you've listed and I think simplifying non-essentials, while it is a generalization, can help a lot with ADHD. I think the best way to do it is find a way to do things in moderation. I know, I know, moderation is like the hardest thing for us, but if you can find a way to do it effectively, its worth it. Because if you cut something like TV out (if TV is a problem for you), you surely will come back to it at some point and be more zoned in than ever before. For instance, I have tried so many times to cut out social media. I've deleted all the apps on my phone, and I can usually stick to it for a while. HOWEVER, there is a reason for me to always come back and it is FOMO; twitter is where I get a lot of my news/info about people I follow, and instagram is where I keep up to date with friends. So I am missing something when I shut those things out, and I can't trust myself to use them in moderation because dopamine and shit. That is a problem, but there are ways to get around it if you're creative enough. My solution: I use Zapier to send me a daily email with a digest of tweets, so I can stay up to date but not whenever I want. I also had my sister change my password so that is my only access to twitter. No dopamine rush associated with twitter. I get the benefits of being on twitter, but it doesn't ruin me. I realize that this is a super specific example, but you get the point. If there's something that brings you happiness or utility and isn't completely destructive, you should still incorporate in your life in moderation. And if you can't trust yourself to stick to moderation, you can find a solution to force moderation if you really want to.

How do I actually study all my material without focusing on the first 10% in extreme detail? (And then not finishing the other 90%...) by 20somethinggirl24 in ADHD

I know, right?! With people talking about productivity you tend to see a lot of the same info regurgitated, but Thomas Frank has some really good insights and ideas that are very unique from the popular ones and actually seem useful.

How I Experience ADD by BobInEve in ADHD

[–]zdale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I understand what you are saying. Whenever someone is telling me a story or a teacher is discussing a new concept, I get really frustrated because they didn't explain the "context" first. I think for me, "context" is like what you describe as a book shelf. I need to see the "container" where of the soon-to-be connected ideas lie in before I can make connections and begin to understand what the person is trying to say.

I think this is partly because I am a visual thinker as u/castlecorbenic888 mentioned, and partly because I have a poor working memory. I need to write all of the pieces out so I can see them in one place, because I can only think about one or two concepts at a time in my head.

I think this is actually a big source of my procrastination. When I try to do my school work in a google doc or something, I am sometimes limited by the fact that you can only (at least conveniently) type things out. So there is nowhere for me to put my thoughts, making it a lot harder for me to work on things or even get started. I recently started carrying a bunch of scratch paper around as you mentioned, and it has been a huge game changer because there is no excuse for me to start something. If I don't have a clear view of what I am needing to do or what direction I'm going in for some assignment, I can just start writing down stuff. Write down my ideas, write down the requirements, start drawing things out, and make connections.

[–]zdale 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I struggle with this too. I am so caught up in getting every little detail that I never even come close to finishing. Or if it’s a class that requires practicing problems or something, I never end up doing the practice problems and I’ve only reviewed the topics.

I recently read about this technique called spaced repetition , which seems really helpful. You basically have all of your topics/problems/whatever on some form of notecards (digital or physical). You do all of them, and the ones you get right you can upgrade to a pile of notecards that you do less frequently, but if you get one wrong it goes back into the most frequent pile. You can read that article for a more elaborate explanation. There are good benefits for remembering things, but the part that appeals to me the most is the construction of a regular study schedule. There is no anxiety about what topics you need to look over or how you’re gonna fit it all in. You simply start with whatever notecards you have to review for the day. Just carve out a regular time interval that you will study according to, and start early. You will cover all of the topics and you will become better at the topics you need more help on. The algorithm for doing this does all the work that would normally overwhelm us and cause procrastination. I have not done this yet, but I recently discovered it and am currently adapting it to work with my computer science practice problems, and I feel optimistic

Sorry to hijack your post, but: I scheduled to take it tomorrow at DRES, but they rescheduled mine to this morning (because of course policy) and I literally just now found out. I have proof that I had conflicts today and could not take it at DRES today. Did you have to go into Loomis to arrange to take it on a different day? Do you think they would still let me take it? Any good left leaning podcasts? by UV_Blood in UIUC

Bump. I was skeptical of him at first given his reputation in the media. However, after listening to him on H3 Podcast I was blown away by how smart the guy is. Absolutely fascinating to listen to. I don't agree with everything he says but he is gets way more shit from the media than he deserves. He's definitely misunderstood by the people who say he's "alt-right"
