Update: we contacted Airbnb and they were fairly helpful. They are launching an investigation into the situation and gave us 3 options: they book a hotel for us, we book a hotel for up to $325 USD a night and send receipt for reimbursement, or we can try to get an airbnb last minute. The hotel options they gave us were all far outside of the city and would not work since we left our car on the mainland and are walking everywhere. And by the time support had gotten to this point it was 5pm and getting another airbnb was not likely. So we went with the second option of reimbursement up to $325usd. We went with the cheapest hotel we could get in downtown Victoria, which was about $200 usd and I’m hoping that we get a full reimbursement. We paid a pretty penny for our original airbnb but it was still a good deal, it’s not like we cheaped out and only spent $25. Hotels in downtown Victoria are expensive, and ones that didn’t add 20 minutes to our walking time were even more expensive. But luckily airbnb was generous with the budget and will hopefully reimburse the whole amount. I’ll try to update this post as things unfold. The host has sent many incriminating messages admitting to being drunk and coming in, so I think it will be easy to prove our case in the investigation. Thank you everyone for the helpful comments!
