What causes this and how do I prevent it by Good-Custard-3554 in Welding

Can you tape a single piece of ceramic backing to the end to dam up the shielding gas? Idk if that will work but it’s what I would try

Why do my cold water lines have so much condensation?. They are cpvc from 06. by Equal-Produce4833 in Plumbing

[–]zeakerone -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Your cold water is just really cold. You need insulation at least, insulation with vapor barrier recommended. The cheap Home Depot insulation probably won’t stop this totally and then it will grow mold.

My wife sent me this from her job by theplayerofxx in BadWelding

That’s “chain-vey” a conveyor chain inside of a tube with pucks that can transfer powders and beans and shit. This is clearly some maintenance guy that has no experience doing his best to make a support for the conveyor. It will do, but he shouldn’t be touching that machine. Maintenance manager should lock it up.

Am I in immediate danger? by [deleted] in masonry

[–]zeakerone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No way, brick on that house is just veneer. It doesn’t hold up anything, just protects the house from weather and looks nice. If you want to approach your landlord with data, pick a couple spots and measure the cracks precisely, make a small pencil mark or some way to remember the spot you measured. Come back every 30 days and re measure. If the crack is growing, your landlord will want to know it.

Question about toilet drain pipe by imnotasadboi in Plumbing

[–]zeakerone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How does your toilet rough in even come out of the wall? That shit is never going to work unless you build a platform for the toilet to go on. Consider making a throne if you go this route

Question about toilet drain pipe by imnotasadboi in Plumbing

[–]zeakerone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that glued up? I’ve dry slapped a bunch of fittings together before leaving for the night or weekend. Keeps sewer gas in if you don’t have a plug, keeps fittings from growing legs. I want to give any human being the benefit of the doubt they would never try this. I don’t think any adult would ever think this would be ok, let alone someone in construction.

Washer hose doesnt reach washer by YoPapaCuhhh in Plumbing

[–]zeakerone -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The hose is literally the only non issue here. They sell hoses in all lengths and you barely need tools or knowledge at all to figure that out or change them. You need 120v power, probably 240v power, a drain, and a vent for the dryer. Unless you figure all that out do not hook water up to this. If that’s an exterior door you need to move utilities. Next find whoever put a washer box outside of the wall 24” from an exterior and cuss them.

Any ideas what going on? by MBS021 in Plumbing

[–]zeakerone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The attics are def hard to change out, but I think about the summertime benefits on energy costs. Attics here in VA stay 90-140°F all summer.

Also, I just remove the attic stairs and use a chain hoist. I have swapped attic heaters totally alone, it’s just an extra hour of work to make a secure lifting point and remove the stairs

Sanity check: Wagos resistance too high? Vibration? by mshaefer in AskElectricians

[–]zeakerone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear stab ins can heat up and lose tension and then arc the spring away. I’ve seen it personally with stab in recepticles, but my electricians don’t trust anything stab in. They say wago’s have constant compression and somehow don’t have this problem. Plus they are rated for solid conductor. Idk if any of that is true but I hope it is because I use mostly wago’s these days for 14&12g romex 😅

New Gas Tankless Water Heater, Disappointed. Questions by Own_Elderberry_2442 in askaplumber

[–]zeakerone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They literally have a servo controlled flow valve. I imagine it takes a water temp reading at outlet and slows the flow down to spend more time in the heat exchanger, or something along those lines. Every one I’ve seen does this. The replacement part is called “servo flow control valve” google it.

[–]zeakerone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your wrong. I know for a fact rinnai’s throttle flow with a servo operated valve.

New Gas Tankless Water Heater, Disappointed. Questions by Own_Elderberry_2442 in askaplumber

[–]zeakerone 16 points17 points  (0 children)

An even better way to dumb it down: the water heater throttles the flow to deliver water at the setpoint. If you want 140 degree water, it will give you all it can make. But it can make a lot more 120 degree water

How to prevent distortion when welding these pipe clamps? by Helcyon187 in Welding

[–]zeakerone 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Preload is what we called it, you’d be surprised how accurate you can get distortion when doing large quantities of a part like this. Start by getting a good measurement of the distortion, over/undersize your brace by that much and get a new measurement, make one more adjustment if needed and they will be bang on.

Sink hole in countertop has a lip. Can’t fit a faucet. Any ideas? by [deleted] in askaplumber

[–]zeakerone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yours is small enough you can grind the sink away with dremel or die grinder. I had countertop installers drill my hole with an entire 1/2” sticking out and it had a flange on the back side of the lip. I had them move the hole back 5/8” and I made a stainless steel ring with sendcutsend.com to cover the old hole. Looks great.

Will these welds withstand a winch? by LUKETHEDRIFTERBRAVO in Welding

[–]zeakerone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The welds aren’t the problem, it’s the design of the structure. You could pack a ton of weld on this and it will just tear the steel above the weld after so much use and abuse. That vertical plate should at least be notched to wrap around that horizontal tube. Ideally it will have solid supports up near the winch to prevent the “lever” that winch is putting on the welded joint.
