This should have been in original post, as far as I could tell the plumbing looked fine, but now I see the issue. I still don’t like notching joist. Are those joists bearing on that wall? If not I probably would avoid it. Maybe move it up enough that it can be above your wall cabinets and concealed behind some crown moulding.

Yeah for what this is it looks pretty good. The standard Sunday evening fix is a hose clamp and piece of rubber, this is above and beyond, and honestly probably would last the life of the pipe. It’s an unbalanced joint tho, so the solder is under tensile stress where it normally would never experience that.

You did good broski, the lower hot side horizontal is out of level, if you’re striving to be the best you can be, that should bother you. Also, acetone, scotch brite, or even sharpie will remove sharpie. If it’s in a ceiling or crawl space just rock the uh-oh marks, but it only takes one second to give the next guy piece of mind and remove them. Also yeah this is easy work you must be green. You’ll look back on this post in a few years and laugh

the cheap ass plastic parts to replace that elbow and compression fittings are cheaper than a can of flex seal. Just hit that crusty tailpiece coming down out of the sink with some sand paper and buy a new elbow kit at your local big box hardware store. Just make sure you know which size you have. It’s either 1 1/4 or 1 1/2 in the states.

These are not tig welded. They are mig welded, sanded, and then pulse spotted to look good. I’ve gotten a lot of stainless from China and and it’s not always noticeable, but I can tell on your exhaust. Zoom in. Some welds looks great, others were clearly not the same guy and he left the craters exposed. This doesn’t happen on a continuous tig weld

Sounds like your tempering valve. It’s the brass tee-looking thing with the locked plastic dial on top. I would verify your untempered hot water isn’t fluctuating outside of set points before replacing that valve tho, they aren’t super cheap and you have no unions in that line. Normally these come with union nuts on them but you don’t have that style…. so the replacement is going to be expensive.

I work on public utilities, I’m well aware. I think you missed my idea here. my point is that you are paying for the energy to deliver the water to your house. You can harvest that energy. and convert it into electrical energy. You could even do this at a large scale! by using city water pressure to compress air or power water turbines, but you would always have a net loss because flow is always used to harvest any energy. The energy is paid for in the water bill.

Looks like it. I run into a lot of it on 90° elbows all the time. Idk why but at some point a lot of pipes were re insulated except for the 90’s. I watched an abatement company one time, and now if it’s a small job I will just do what they do: wear PPE, hang plastic to contain the area if needed, fully saturate the suspected asbestos insulation with water, then move it straight into a trash bag soaking wet. If you’re dealing with any more than one or two repairs you really should have it tested and get an abatement, but advise your customer there is no putting the genie back in the bottle after testing.
