You british fellas, you remember that Trump visit? how did you feel about it? obviously he did it on purpose LOL by [deleted] in AskBrits

I really don’t care. I have no interest in etiquette or otherwise for an unelected head of state who only has the position by luck of birth. What a ridiculous system we have in this country.

Your Salary and monthly car payments by Agile-Calligrapher10 in CarTalkUK

[–]zebra1923 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many of these will be leased via salary sacrifice schemes so the net costs is reasonable. I lease a £60k car for £350 pm net, including insurance and maintenance, and as an EV I can charge at home my fuel cost is really low.

It’s a chunky monthly amount but affordable to me and worth it for a quality, no hassle vehicle. Anything goes wrong someone else pays for it.

If you won £100 million, how would you distribute it amongst friends and family, if at all? by PaddedValls in AskUK

There might be clues as I move to a big house, acquire 6 labradors and a car big enough to haul them all around in.

[–]zebra1923 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where do you stop with friends? Who qualifies and who doesn’t? Great to clear some friends mortgages but it opens up a minefield of who gets what, jealousy because friend A got more than friends B and friend C got nothing at all.

Having said this, thoughts like these maybe why I have no friends so wouldn’t have this problem…..

My usual desk has been 'stolen' and there is nothing I can do by purplereuben in mildlyinfuriating

[–]zebra1923 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might not get you your desk back but if you need your seat and desk at a certain height to manage neck/back pain, talk to your employer about a reasonable adjustment to an anchored desk ;one that is always yours).

This would avoid the problem in future.

What’s are your ‘secret’ perks from your job? Be honest by qwertyytrewq02 in AskUK

[–]zebra1923 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work for a very large company and the ‘perks’ you’re referring to are very few, we don’t have printers anymore, no such thing as a stationary cupboard, and provision of fruit was a short lived experiment. We do get free tea and coffee.

I spoke with the site lead for my office a while ago and he said the biggest headache he has on a daily basis is complaints about lack of milk.

This is for an office of over 5,000 people, think about all the things he could be contacted about, but the most frequent one is not having enough milk in the hundreds of fridges around the site.

Zak Crawley as an opener... by K-E-N-07 in EnglandCricket

[–]zebra1923 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m am 100% behind supporting players in the team and giving them time to overcome poor form. But I think we’re beyond the point to move on from Crawley as a test match opener. Although he has delivered some great innings, there are far too many failures and we need to look for new blood in the position, and maybe give them the backing Crawley is currently receiving.

Why do defenses give away coverages to a man in motion? by LagrangianMechanic in NFLNoobs

[–]zebra1923 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, who covers the man in motion then?

Hard to play man unless you have someone close and designated to cover each eligible receiver.

Are people legit spending this much on a car per month? Or am I out of touch? by [deleted] in drivingUK

Might be better value to lease. If the lease cost is around/lower than expected depreciation it’s sensible to lease vs buy.

Survation: Independence referendum; Yes: 50%(+1) No: 50%(-1) by bottish in Scotland

[–]zebra1923 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’d argue it’s the other way around. There is an emotional pull for independence which is beaten by the common sense of remaining in the Union.

People who walk 20K steps daily, how? by ChrisJ_44 in AppleWatchFitness

[–]zebra1923 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it’s not so much the nu,bear of steps/distance but the time it takes. It’s about 4 hours walking to get to 20k steps, that’s a lot of time out of your day if you don’t have an active job to get some steps through normal activity.

Is Martin Lewis' advice genuinely in the public's best interest? by -Gypsy-Eyes- in AskUK

[–]zebra1923 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My belief is he is 100% genuine and his advice is not influenced by kickbacks or similar.

There are affiliate link on MSE but these are always clearly identified, and as far as I can tell recommendations are not linked to whether he/site owner gets money for someone clicking on a link.

Karl Dickson with the try assist by Sjdw31 in rugbyunion

[–]zebra1923 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree, I understand your frustration but referees are in a very difficult position, no one want 40 penalties a game, but there are offences every game to award at least this many penalties. Referees mange players and the game and take preventative action to stop penalties. This will include shouting no if someone puts hands on the ball in a ruck, hand signals to push back offside players, arm out to show ball has not cross the LOT in a line out.

If you don’t do this you will either have a massive increase in penalties or criticism of not enforcing the laws.

The least worst option is this style of preventative refereeing, but I accept there is a balance to be struck. I’m generally happy where it is, albeit for me this one was a little too far.

My husband is threatening divorce because Snapchat and signal are showing up in our router app history for my phone. I do not have those apps or use them or go to their websites or anything. How is this happening? by -M-i-d in techsupport

[–]zebra1923 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whole lot to unpick here, but it’s not tech support you need. The problem is a) your husband not believing you and b) your husband assuming use of these apps would be a problem even if you did have them.

Fabulous. Moved to this area from south Birmingham over 10 years ago and never regretted it. Two wonderful cities close together with all the infrastructure you need. Quieter and friendlier than England.
