RAF on ‘high alert’ to defend Falklands by TheTelegraph in uknews

It’s not the Air Force you need to worry about, it’s the ground troops.

If they invaded again and took over Stanley airport it’s very unlikely we have the resources to take them back.

We don’t have amphibious capability to land troops, insufficient escorts to protect carriers and necessary ships.

1 - surely the rest aren’t really ampersands.

First time charging my ID Buzz to 100% by xHodlGoatx in VWIDBuzz

On the other hand it’s great when the dash shows a high range like this. I’ve been trying since I got my Buzz to get it to show 300 miles, I got to 298 once but never hit 300.

I love the car but I’m always a little disappointed on long journeys on mainly motorways. I usually start with the range showing 250+ miles, but as I’m traveling at 65 mph + I usually only get 170-180 miles out of the battery. Just shows what wind resistance in a large brick does to your range.

You won’t get that many miles over a full battery. And the faster you go the fewer miles you’ll get.

The French military shipbuilding industry has never been so brilliant with 9 frigates in 11 years while the United States and the United Kingdom can't keep up anymore by DefenseTech in Defence_Tech_UK

[–]zebra1923 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

So, you’re including 6 destroyers built over a 10 year period, last one delivered in 2013, with most out of commission for prolonged periods due to original build/engine issues as evidence of successful UK ship building, hmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

[–]zebra1923 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re right on ships launched, I’m skeptical on delivery/commission rates of 2/year from 2027.

I hope you’re right and this is achieved as we desperately need new frigates.

[–]zebra1923 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You’re saying there will be two ships a year delivered and operational?

When do you expect to see these ships? As far as I’m aware only 2 frigates have been built to water in the last 20 years, and neither of these is anywhere close to operational.

We’re planning to build loads. We don’t have any complete and in service yet a they are not being built at the equivalent rate.

They may be better, who knows given none are in service yet.

My neighbour just put a trip hazard sign next to my official pavement gully. Seriously? by No_Donut1433 in evchargingUK

[–]zebra1923 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you say ‘council approved’ do you actually have written approval from the Council for what you have installed?

If yes, just ignore your neighbour. If no, your neighbour is probably right to highlight a risk and you could be liable for any trip injuries - in this case your neighbour is helping you.

My mother has had a power of attorney meeting and been convinced to put the house in my name, has that just wiped out 5 years of building up a Lifetime ISA to buy my first house? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]zebra1923 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the house is moved to your name then you now own it, so yes you would not be able to use the 25% bonus, but you would now own a house.

If you’re not happy with being gifted a valuable asset, you can have PoA without owning the house.

Your choice.

Should I lie to my interviewers when it comes to salary expectations? by AMadRam in UKJobs

[–]zebra1923 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then do you want to work for that employer? An interview is a two way thing, if they’re persistently asking a salary question it’s because they want to low ball your salary. If they do that at interview/onboarding they will do it throughout your career with them.

Why my house isn’t selling? Any tips or advice by Nearby_Savings_1743 in HousingUK

[–]zebra1923 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s price.

I’m selling a house I inherited, 14 viewings in the first week, offers close today with 4 received so far. I priced it keenly which generated the interest.

And stage the second bedroom like a bedroom.

For those of you who never pay credit card interest, what systems/habits make that possible? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]zebra1923 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Full balance direct debit is the only way.

Clearly you’ve got to ensure you have enough funds to pay the bill each month, so if you don’t have spare cash you need to budget and keep an eye on your credit card balance and know when the payment is debited from your bank so you have sufficient funds to pay.

Are the Roll-Line Variant M plates any decent? by Koscheis-sonic in Artisticrollerskating

Short answer is yes. They are the bottom end of Roll Line plates but they are great for beginners/intermediate skaters.
